I hired Captain Dave for a 70s themed party. He and Admiral Kathy were very professional. Communication was great before the event, including a necessary, change of date and time.
They arrived early and set up their equipment so they were ready to go when the guests started arriving
The music was very appropriate. He played it at lower volumes at the appropriate times, and cranked it up as it was time to start dancing. Dave even helped me with an icebreaker game, posing as my husband with a very strange accent.
It was a fun night and I would recommend Captain Dave, and would use him again!

Dave was great to work with. We worked out a playlist but he was flexible with requests during the evening. He knew when to crank it up or go mellow for the boomer crowd at my wife's birthday party. I highly recommend him.

We worked with Capt. Dave from across the country to supply music and DJ services for our wedding reception this past December. Captain Dave was outstanding! He was a true professional from the time I booked a party date with him, for my organization, through completion of his DJ gig.
I received a price quote, agreement form, and invoice upfront in a timely manner. He arrived early to set up before our event started, and played the 60’s songs we had requested. He took guests’ requests and played them. He stayed after our two-hour agreed-upon time to play a couple more songs.
In sum, Dave was easy to work with, reliable, and helped make our ’60s dance party for 35 people a big success. People talked about the fun they had long after the event.
If we have this kind of party again, we’ll hire Captain Dave.

Captain Dave and Admiral Kathy did an excellent and beautiful job working at my Dad's 90th birthday party. Both Dave and Kathy were attentive to whatever we needed with music and sequence of the events at the party. The music was perfect and everyone including my dad commented on the variety of songs that included many of their favorite tunes from that era. Captain Dave's played at our Christmas party last year. Initially his type of expertise was not what we were looking for, in fact, I had another DJ lined up for it. We were a military group with a significant amount of younger people. Anyway, Dave was able to accommodate us last minute as our previously booked DJ had a family emergency and had to cancel. With only days before our holiday party, Dave not only showed up for us but he accommodated our request for Latin music. I sent him a list and he came prepared. Captain Dave worked our annual Christmas banquet for Volunteers of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Saturday, 9 December 2023. He and Kathy did an excellent job. The music selection was excellent and relevant to this group of mostly Vietnam Era attendees. Their set up was quick and efficient - and they were flexible to work with the dimensions of the banquet room. Using their PA system and microphone saved us many hundreds of dollars because we did not need to rent the Marriott 's A/V equipment. They were personable, professional, on time, and did a great job. I contracted with Capt. Dave for my 50th High School Reunion and could not have been more pleased with my decision. To tell you the truth, I was only expecting someone to play the music and not much more. However, from the first time we spoke until the event concluded, I was thoroughly impressed with his professionalism and willingness to bend over backwards to get me what I wanted. In addition to what you would expect (the music), Dave brought along his light show to help set the tone and ambiance for the night and was very helpful with advising me on how to keep the reunion moving along. Captain Dave was fantastic at my daughters wedding. The bride and the groom weren’t sure exactly what they wanted and they didn’t want traditional activities or pacing. Captain Dave found the music they were looking for even some of the obscure pieces and helps at the pace and tone for the whole beautiful affair. The guests were all very happy with the music it was at the right volume for conversation during dinner and getting people up and moving afterwards. He was able to change gears quickly as the young people changed their minds several times and helped guide them through a lot of their questions and decisions. What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
The key to a great event is the ability of your DJ to match the mix and mood of your guests. So a great DJ should be able to read the “energy” or mood of your attendees. If the DJ is inexperienced, young, or has a limited library, he or she may not even have or know what they like! And the music is WAYY too loud. For groups that are older, you have to know your 60’s, 70’s and 80’s great songs. I lived it.
How would you describe your ‘style’?
My style is creating an atmosphere that reflects the personalized choices of my clients. My style is YOUR style. However, if your group is looking for current music, Rap, Metal, etc, I'm not your best choice. Typically, I'll provide a mix of quiet background music for the early portion of the event, and build to the dancing portion of the event. Monitoring music volume is especially important for older groups.
What do you love most about your job?
I love watching a full dance floor. I love creating a memorable event for my clients. Whether it s a private event, or at at a restaurant or bar.
I love it when someone comes up to me and tells me a quick story they were reminded of because of a particular song I played. For many folks, music IS the soundtrack of their lives.
What inspired you to start your own business?
It was just kinda a natural progression. Was listening to my AM transistor radio in the 60’s. Comedy sketches in high school in the early 70’s. College radio at JMU in the 70’s. Then a friend asked me to do some DJ work in a local bar. Using cassettes! From there, I bought my first sound system, with two turn tables. 45’s and LP’s. Created “EarCandy Music” At one point, I had 3 complete record libraries, and two other jocks working for me. That was in Harrisonburg VA. Later moves back to Northern VA, where I continued to “spin records” for Nards, Great Golden Aces, Lyric. As well as my own private gigs.
Bottom line for us, We love to watch people of all ages having a great time.
Why should our clients choose you?
Honestly, if your event includes primarily guests who are in their 40's and younger, we’re not the entertainment you want. But, if you have a mix of ages, especially Boomers, and require excellent Master of Ceremony ability, then please give us a call.

Portable, on site DJ entertainment. We can provide a complete experience with 150 watt speakers, wireless mic, uplighting and dance floor lights, audio/visual support, vocal performance accompaniment music, event consultation.
For small groups, and those on a very tight budget, we can provide two large blue tooth speakers, and DJ-provided music only. Your playlist and requests always included. No mic. No lights.
DJ Entertainment
Weddings, reunions, corporate events, anniversaries, birthdays. Even a house party with your friends! Any special event that needs great music and memories!
We specialize in groups that are on the older side. Especially highchool, college or family reunions. Also those special birthdays and anniversaries for Mom and Dad, or the grandparents!
Library starts in the Big Band era, and can include most any genre you choose. We happily accept your playlist. And, we take requests during your special event!
We can provide dance floor lights and uplighting, wireless mic, MC talent, help with developing your event timeline, particularly important for weddings and other formal events.
Music volume is always monitored. Soft background during cocktails and dinner. Then louder and danceable later in the evening.
We can provide a much smaller system -music only-that might be perfect for smaller venues where only background or sing along music is needed.
