I will up to 5 stars given the excellent service.  Though we were spoiled, having the place to ourselves as soon as they opened up on a summer night  (need to-- we have a nutty toddler).    Absolutely delicious bread and olive oil.  My salmon entree was delicious--   most flavorful sauce.   Lamb entree was also very good.  Served with delicious, perfectly cooked vegetables.   Really wanted to try the dessert but our little guy was ready to bolt. I never would have known this place without Yelp.   It is so small and hidden.  We almost couldn't find it though we were looking at the exact address location.   I do highly recommend trying it.  It is VERY hard to find good food around here! Delicious and delightful. The food is absolutely yummy. Great variety and all so good. Rashid does a great job. The service is excellent. You must bring your own wine as they dont have a liquor license but we enjoy that. I have gone 3 times in the last 3  weeks since a friend told me about it. Very close to the train station so a great spot for dinner post train. You'll need reservations on the weekend as it isn't very large. More...

Just returned from a wonderful meal here.  It is BYOB but there is NO corking fee contrary to what some other reviewers have said.  It is not cheap but everything is wonderfully and lovingly prepared. I had the scallop salad and the rack of lamb. Scallops. We're perfectly cooked.  Ordered lamb medium rare it it came out perfectly cooked as well.   My wife had the tuna tartare and the salmon. Tuna was the only disappointing dish of the night.   Four cucumber cups with spoonfuls of over seasoned tuna. Salmon was also perfectly cooked and delicious.  Decaf after the meal was spot in as well.  Prices are not cheap, but what you save on wine will more than make up for that.  Place is small.  I would say maybe 5 tables of 4 and another 6 or 8 seats at the bar. Service was prompt and efficient even though it was prime time on a Saturday night. More...

Bistro Du Soleil is a gem!!!! The food is absolutely wonderful, the atmosphere is lovely, and the service is impeccable. I've been there twice and everyone in my party was absolutely awed. For appetizers, we loved the frogs legs (better than we've had anywhere), escargot, and garlic shrimp ... along with the fresh hot bread - yum! For entrees, the bouillabaisse was devine with loads of perfectly cooked seafood, the rack of lamb was delicious, the short ribs special with saffron risotto was amazing. The chef even customized an entree for one of us who had a food allergy and the dish was fantastic. Portions are generous - so be ready for leftovers. It's BYOB. Wonderful for a special dinner, romantic dinner, friends nite out, family treat. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! More...

I can't add a lot that's new or different from the other comments here. It's Very cozy and warm, and we had great food from appetizers through dessert. It's a bring your own and is not expensive by my standards. Actually I think it's a good value for great service, atmosphere and food. The owners and staff are very accommodating and will go out of their way to make sure you are happy. I was a little distressed that Saturday at 8:00 we saw empty tables. I would hope the Westport community had enough taste to pack this establishment. Do your job,  Eat Here! I have no dog in this race other than to eat great food when I visit people in the area. Everyone is right in the review, this restaurant is a gem! I love the coziness and the environment, it's traditional which I like. I don't like those hipster likes places. The restaurant cares about quality, not quantity. The food was amazing! We shared a foie gras, it was really yum!!! I had the scallop salad, the scallops were cooked just right! My husband had the tuna tartare and he said it was yum too. I went in wanting to try the duck breast but the special took my attention haha...both my husband and I ordered the special, he had the New York steak but we think that's okay, I had the sea bass and that was amazing! Fresh and cooked just right. I love the squash and my hubby loves the asparagus haha! We didn't have dessert though. The restaurant is BYOW and no corkage fee! And we love the service there, the owner is super nice and so down to earth! We definitely would come back! I still want to try the duck breast! More...

Great meal overall... We had the tuna tartare appetizer which was good LOL even though the waitress dropped it said she was going to bring a replacement but didn't (in all fairness she was extremely apologetic and the food still tasted pretty good) and the shrimp appetizer which was excellent. .. For main courses we got the dock which wasn't very good but also very sweet as the pomegranate mixed with the parts in a purée was slightly over powering and also the coq au vin which was tremendous.   Restaurant only has 26 seats and I would recommend sitting more towards the back of the restaurant since the seats by the window are right by the train tracks.    Overall a great experience and the fact that it is a BYOB is good considering we spent $100 on food alone :-)Will definitely return More...

What a gem of a place! They're yet to receive a liquor license however you can BYOB at no extra charge. The service was spectacular. I had their soup of the day which was asparagus and it was delicious. For appetizers: escargot & foie gras. The escargot were perfectly cooked and seasoned inside their shell. The foie gras was not overpowered by sweet sauces such as other places do (to the detriment of the taste of foie gras). It was elegantly served with some grapes, onions, baguette chips and a sauce which was olive oil, or oil derived from the foie gras itself or maybe a mixture of both. Not sure but the taste of the foie gras was amazingfor dinner: rack of lamb (medium rare) with a side of green beans and asparagus as well as cous cous. . The veggies and cous cous were great. The lamb was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and as tender as tender could be. I'm very impressed. I will definitely be back regularly! More...

Quaint, friendly, attentive atmosphere with smart French cuisine.  Shellfish broth is fabulous (order extra bread to soak up the considerable extra volume).  BYOB means that you can walk out of there for $100 per couple.  Well worth patronizing to keep this gem afloat.  Try it, you will love it. I don't give many 5 star reviews but the Bistro deserves it. Bistro has only been around for about 8 months and if they continue at this quality level, they should be around for a long time. This is a small space - maybe 30 chairs total. However, the food is exceptional and the ambiance terrific - you can carry on a conversation speaking normally. We started with mussels for a table of 4 - it comes in a small dutch oven and it was wonderful - we asked for more bread to soak up the delicious broth. Next time we may ask for straws as well - don't waste a drop!We then had Bouillabaisse, Rack of Lamb and Salmon. Each was done perfectly - I had the Bouillabaisse with clams, mussels, good size shrimp, and salmon in a lovely broth. My wife loved the salmon with "black rice" which I thought was Riso Nero but it is a rice variety that is black - very good! The lamb was also done perfectly. We finished with creme brulee, also done perfectly.Right now Bistro is BYOB until they get their liquor license and reservations are a must - we were there on a Saturday night and it was full when we came in (except for our table) and full when we left. Service was great. Right now they are not open for lunch but that should change in a month or two - can't wait! We are definitely returning! More...

I was a bit skeptical at first bc from the outside. The restaurant is in a weirdly shaped, tiny, single story brick building. But, to my surprise, when you walk in, you feel immediately transported to an intimate restaurant in France, but not in a cheesey, "Disney" way. It's very low key and cute (yet not trendy). The service was excellent and the food was really good. Here's a breakdown of our dinner:Apps-seared fois gras (excellent)-beef stew soup (excellent). This was a special. Main-seared duck breast (very good). I usually like the fat on skin a little more rendered but the flavor and presentation was really nice. -rack of lamb (good). Our waiter said this dish is quite popular so we got it. It was good, but not remarkable. I found the lamb a little tough and lacking flavorDessert-choc lava cake with vanilla ice cream  (very good)-apple strudel with vanilla ice cream  (good). I was expecting less dough and more apples, and for it to be warmer. Overall, would def come back. It would be awesome if they expanded their dessert menu more though. Personally I love a good pavlova topped with berries so something for the chef to consider if she's reading! :) More...

My husband and I had dinner at Bistro du Soleil last evening and were absolutely overwhelmed!  Everything we ordered was delicious, as well as beautifully presented.  I had the foie gras appetizer, while my entree was the Muscovy Duck Breast.  Both were cooked to perfection.  Duck is my favorite dish and this was one of the best I've ever had!  My husband had the trout special.  He said it was the "second best" he ever had -- the best was in Provence.  Service was excellent.  The owner came over to chat for a while, which demonstrates the attention that is paid to each diner.  He said that the chef, his wife, studied at Cordon Bleu in Paris.  You can't do better than that!  We will definitely be back!  NOTE: they do not have their liquor license yet, so it's BYOB (with a corkage fee). Bistro du Soleil, which closed its restaurant in Norwalk's SONO a while back, has re-opened in Westport.  I was a lunch and dinner regular in SONO, and am thrilled that it is now in my backyard.  It opened just a few weeks ago, but the attention to detail in both the food and the ambience have not changed.  The menu was robust, with a broad selection of entrees and appetizers.  I had the trout, which was served in a delicious sauce on top of a mound of organic snap peas and herbs.  The mussels looked fantastic, as did the strip steak, but my greedy friends didn't offer me a bite!  The small location is wonderful once you are inside, and being hidden in the old Saugatuck Post Office I am hoping it will be a while before the placed is jammed with reservations. This place closed, and it's such a shame.  It was beautifully decorated, and the menu was a nuevo latino type of cuisine.  This is the only local place I'd rate a 5-star so far .  We started off with empenadas, and I have to say these were the best ones I've ever had.  They will filled to the brim with seasoned ground beef and plumped raisins.  It was one of those situations where I wanted to be at home in my PJ's noshing on these while watching TV.  They were that good.  For the entree, I ordered the angus burger on brioche with a truffle spread and perfectly prepared pomme frites.  The owners were there, and they were so gracious and funny.  The wife came over to me and said, "You got the last burger.  We're so jealous".  My friend wanted something light, so she asked the chef to whip up something with veggies.  The chef delivered with this lovely masterpiece of sauteed grape tomatoes, asparagus, etc. on a bed of whipped, buttery mashed potatoes.  She loved it.The dessert was off the charts, but her choice was the best.  She ordered the pear poached in red wine, and wow was it delicious.  Have you ever seen a friend's order and had to restrain yourself from stealing theirs?  This was my dilemma! It closed for renovations, and it shut down eventually.  Hopefully the owners are just taking a sabbatical and will re-open this place in the near future.  I eagerly await their return...
