April is the BEST!! We decided Harry our 3 year old Border Terrier needed some help to curb his enthusiasm when he saw other dogs on walks. I really wasn’t sure at 3 if we’d left it too late, i was so wrong to worry!! April tailored his lessons to him personally and he showed results within a week of his first lesson and my at home practice. Today the doorbell rang and he sat on his mat giving me his full attention without barking! This is HUGE for Harry who always barked excessively at the doorbell! I cannot recommend them enough!! April and Jeff have done amazing work with our girl Mountain Goat. She was sooo hard to focus and with our currently busy life we just did not have the time needed to dedicate to just training our girl. We set her up for a board and train with April and Jeff who made leaps and bounds with her. They laid the ground work for us and I could not be more thankful. I'm thankful for now having a dog who I can manage now but I am also thankful for the peace and happiness that comes with your best friend lighting up when she figures out what her human wants from her. I would recommend Jeff to ANYONE who is looking for a dog trainer. To say that my big sweet fluffy Norman loved when Mr. Jeff would come and play (train), would be an understatement. His tail would wag and he would be smiling ear to ear the entire time. Jeff is so incredibly knowledgeable and understands dog behavior on all levels. He is very thorough in his explanations and demonstrations, all the while, coaching us to communicate, bond, and instill confidence in our dogs. Norman was learning to make good choices and to understand EXACTLY what I wanted him to do (...and Norman thought we were just playing games ). Before I found Jeff, I had enrolled my little 8 week old, Norman, in a beginner obedience class. I hadn't done a lot of research and thought all puppy classes were the same - WRONG! The instructor of that course mostly endorsed verbal corrections, leash corrections, fear, and "alpha" tactics. In a couple of cases she encouraged participants to use prong collars and shock collars. It just didn't sit well with me. I didn't want to teach my dog to fear me. I just wanted him to understand what I expected and make good choices. After a lot of research and reading I found the concept of 100% positive reinforcement training and knew that this was the training I was looking for (for me and for Norman). Based on my own puny research, I tried a few basic positive only things with Norman. It was a LIGHTBULB moment for both of us. The next step was finding someone who truly understood what positive only reinforcement dog training is. Jeff Causby knows his stuff!!! There isn't anything more rewarding than seeing the lightbulb go off in your dogs eyes when they "get it"... and "do it"... Not because you told them to... Not because they were forced to... Not out of fear, but because they are THINKING on their own and genuinely want to "do it". Once they have that lightbulb moment, they keep repeating the behavior over and over. I am a professional positive reinforcement trainer and I reached out to Jeff at Best Buddy, LLC for additional training for my dog. My husband and I brought our Rottweiler puppy, Maximus home right before Christmas. It was super important to both of us to start training right away. When I researched local dog trainers in Southern MD, Jeff's program really stood out to us since he is a positive reinforcement trainer.... there's not many in our local area. After speaking with Jeff, reading through his numerous reviews, and watching his YouTube channel with his training videos, we felt this was the right program for our pup. We signed our Maximus up for 3 weeks of board /train. Now we are working with Jeff at our home for the next 6 weeks. He makes it easy! You have his undivided attention for an hour of training in the comfort of your home and leaves you with homework to do with your pup for the following week. Our Maximus has learned a lot so far just in the first 3 weeks: potty training, crate training, basic commands (his name, here, sit, touch, leave it, and to go to his mat) and he's learning how to walk on his leash. Our family rescued a 2 year old lab mix from the pound 3 months ago. It was obvious we needed help for her to fit into our family, as she was a little unruly, and we found Best Buddy LLC from local online recomendations. Jeff arrived at our home the following week and Daisy was immediately transfixed! Jeff uses only positive training techniques and has such an amazing way with animals (and humans!) and can teach any member of the family how to train. Jeff, worked with me and my 4 year old golden/lab mix Finn for six weeks. We focused mainly on basic training, stay, leave it, touch, mat, etc. .. My name is Christopher LeBlanc and i sent Ollie, our Australian Shepherd, to Best Buddy Dog Trainer, LLC's board and train program. We sent him for three weeks. When we sent him we had done some basic tricks like sit, stay and down, however, we had done it incorrectly. I was one of those trainers who thought simply watching online video was enough to train a dog properly. boy was I wrong. Jeff was able to do unbelievable things with Ollie. The way Ollie would react when he saw a person was unbearable. He would yank and yank at the leash. He was a good dog but we wanted him to be great. Jeff was able to do that. His behavioral commands became consistent but more importantly the loose leash training was a massive step in the right direction. From the start we were able to get in touch with Jeff whenever needed and he would proudly answer all questions we would have. He was nothing but amazing with Ollie. The three weeks however was just a start. He also includes 6 private lesson to train us how to handle and to continue to have Ollie behaving properly. His knowledge is insane when it comes to animal behavior and he does not hesitate to share exactly what you need to know in order to keep your animal great. One last thing is whenever i was looking for a board and trainer i could not find a single one who did not use any type of fear training, such as shock collars. Just finished my last session with Jeff today and I can see a big difference with my dog. I have a 2 year old pit bull who likes to jump the fence, pull on walks, and do things on his own terms. I'm so glad I went with Best Buddy to train my lab puppy. I adopted Oliver from the shelter and put him through an alternative training course; which unfortunately, was not successful. Being an active and curious pup, he was hard to handle at times. At 8 months, I was worried he was getting too old to reverse some of his behaviors. We have now had numerous private training sessions with Jeff, and I have already seen a huge difference in Oliver's demeanor. Jeff is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his career. Our dog Tucker would get anxious and sometimes growl when our toddler was running in his space. I adopted a rescue puppy when she was around 4 months. Within a few months her behavior was out of control, I had tried everything. Although she wasn't very big, she was extremely active and I was unable to train her to do much of anything let alone keep her out of mischief. I was at a loss and after searching local dog trainers I found Best Buddy. Jeff explained the process and options for training. I chose the in home sessions which are very reasonable and well worth the cost. Jeff came right out and started training my dog (and me). He has been fantastic and my dog's behavior has improved 100% to the point she is listening and following instructions. I used Jeff's tips for helping her work off her energy and she and I are both much happier. I'm not sure what I would have done without Jeff's training and help. Skype lessons are working for us!! I have a 15-month old pit bull mix. Before contacting Jeff, we did a puppy class with her with a trainer in the Columbia, MD area, and a basic obedience class with her in the Baltimore, MD area. But we didn't get the results we wanted. She started well in class, but we couldn't figure out how to finish training her on our own. The result was a dog that didn't seem to listen or focus on us. Jeff's videos got my attention because unlike many other trainers (who can train your dog for you but aren't so good at explaining to you how to train/manage the dog yourself), Jeff's videos shared real, concrete, specific tips and techniques. After learning that Jeff offers Skype lessons, I decided to sign up and see what would happen. We are 4 lessons into a 6-lesson package, and I am 100% thrilled with the changes I am seeing in my relationship with my dog. She was ready to learn and work and focus - I just didn't know how to bring that out of her. Jeff gives you a step by step process for training your dog to clearly understand a command and execute it quickly and reliably every time. He also gives lots of very specific guidance about what to do (or not) with your body, tone of voice, clicker, leash, etc. when working with your dog (this is the hard part for me!). It takes work on your part to get results, but it's a "work smarter, not harder" kind of deal. You can do 3-minute bursts of focused training a few times a day on your own and see huge results. Jeff has also given me practical advice on thoroughly exercising my high-energy dog, even inside (I live in the city and have no yard). And advice on reducing unwanted behaviors. All in a positive-only way that I was skeptical of at first, but am seeing awesome results with. My dog is different when I'm not using body blocking, or a pinch collar, or even a stern "NO!!!" to nip unwanted behaviors in the bud. I recommend Jeff highly and will consult with him in the future if we have a specific challenge to address in the future. A note about being a Skype client: you need a webcam (computers/tablets often have a built in camera), willingness to learn Skype (it's not hard), and the ability to shoot short videos of your homework to share with Jeff. If I can do it, you can do it. Skype lessons are also very convenient - so it's easier to fit lessons into your very busy life vs. having to drive your dog to a class/training session. More...

I first met Jeff when I took a puppy class with my standard schnauzer puppy, Grayce. At the end of the class we needed more training and are currently doing private lessons. Jeff really loves the dogs he trains! His positive based training has been such a wonderful experience for us. He explains things very well. I am a visual person and benefit from seeing things done first before I actually get it. Jeff demos things very well and gives some background of why that way is best. Jeff is an excellent trainer. We took our pup to him just about a month or so shy of 1 year old and he had formed some really bad habits. We chose the 5 week board and train package that he has and even one week in, we could tell a difference in our pup. Thanks to Jeff, our boy is a totally different pup than he was before! He listens, he follows commands, and he is just much more laid back and is calmer. I'd seen the videos and was hopeful but wasn't confident that he would be able to change our boy's habits, but he has done an amazing job! So much so, that our 3 year old is much more comfortable with him now and will actually lie on the floor beside him and play with his toys. Before, he was just too excitable and high energy and had a tendency to knock our son over. Now, he just watches and waits to see if our son wants to play. If we ever get another dog, we will definitely be taking him to Jeff at a much younger age. The impact he's had on our boy has totally changed our family interaction and we are all much happier. Best Buddy Dog Training teaches you how to get the best behaviors from you dog by using only positive reinforcement. (That's my boy in the "All or Nothing" video. ) It is up to the owner to practice (a lot) at home in order to get these skills solid. Jeff is an excellent dog trainer and truly loves his job. My husband and I learned a lot about what it takes to have a consistently well behaved dog over our six week private training sessions. As an owner, you have to have the time and dedication necessary to implement what you learn during the training sessions in order for the training sessions to be most effective. Jeff and I set up skype sessions due to distance. I am beyond ecstatic after only our first session! It was better than I could have ever imagined! If you are wanting to train with Jeff, but questions the Skype sessions, STOP and give him a call now! He is clear, concise, kind, patient, encouraging and so knowledgeable. I can not say enough about our session, but he gave me renewed hope that I didn't have to just succumb to my dog being a derelict. We just finished our basic obedience course this weekend with our dog Chase. He is a whole different dog then before we started with Jeff. We have made so much progress it is amazing. I would like to tell yall about my experience with Jeff Causby from Best Buddy Dog Trainer, but first a little about me. I did some intensive investigation on the internet in my general location looking for someone to help me train my dog. I have a now 6 year old rescue German Sheppard by the name of Major, my family and I rescued him when he was 5 years old. He had training before we got him but he still needed more. He was great with my family and after getting to know someone he was ok with other people. However, first meetings he came off rather aggressive, although being a great dog. When I contacted Jeff, he got back to me in a very timely manner and we set up the arrangement for training and our first meeting. My first impression of Jeff was that of a person who was charismatic with the work that he does. He can be a very down to earth when it comes to training and extremely energetic at the same time. Jeff takes extreme pride in his work and has a plethora of training tips to help you succeed in training your pet in the way you want. Granted his methods were not what I was used to when it came to training a dog, however, he asked me flat out if I was willing to change my training techniques drastically. I agreed and I could not tell you how enthused I am with the change in my dog’s behavior. Jeff told me straight up, he was not going to just train my dog, but teach me to be an armature trainer. Which makes total sense, Jeff can only put in so much time a week with your pet, the rest comes up to you working with your animal to make it stick. That is the only part of the training I grew up with that Jeff agreed with. For anyone already on his sight and has worked with him, knows how great this man is and what he can do for your pet. For those of you looking to find a great trainer I encourage you to contact Jeff and take the time to talk with him and explain to him what you are trying to do. His methods are positive training at all times and it has opened my eyes to a new training technique that I extremely enjoy. For those of you that are new to pets or training pets, remember it does not happen overnight, you have to work with you pet and heed Jeff’s instructions. I must say Jeff is a great dog trainer who is passionate about what he does. I hired Jeff about 2 months ago to work with my hyper/rambunctious miniature Australian Shepherd puppy (Brady) who’s been bitten by an older dog. After the initial consultation/evaluation, Jeff took the time to talk to me/address my concerns and came up with a customized training plan to work with/rehabilitate Brady. Jeff really took the extra time and effort/he’s gone above and beyond to help our little guy out (Jeff goes much further than just basic training with our puppy). I cannot say enough good things about Jeff. We hired him to train our 4 yo lab/weimaraner rescue. He was a hyper mess who sometimes listened. After the first session our dog was already amazing me with the things Jeff had taught him. You can tell he loves what he does and put everything he has into his training. He really takes the extra time to give you a customized lesson plan and does everything possible to ensure you and your dog achieve what you wanted and reach that goal you set in the beginning. Jeff is amazing with animals and a pleasure to work with. He's working with my 16 week old lab and he's a handful. I would recommend Jeff to who ever I come across with who is looking for a trainer.
