Atlanta Dog Trainer

I was looking for an opportunity to spend time with my dog that not only gave him exercise but also stimulated his mind. Someone recommended I look into taking scent work classes with him. I found Atlanta Dog Training offered these classes and enrolled my 105 pound bundle of energy and I. After enrolling, there was an evaluation of my dogs temperament (to be sure a group class would be a good fit for him). I really appreciated this process and the time taken by the staff, to be sure Gideons personality was such that he would benefit from these classes. It turns out he enjoyed it so much, we ended up continuing on with the classes through the intermediate level. We hope to go back for Advanced scent work when the next opportunity arises! More...

We have miniature poodle. The “trainers” determined he didn’t have a “window” for training. They claimed he wasn’t food motivated. They stood in a circle like a firing squad and stared at my dog hiding behind my legs and tossed cheese at him. Of course he was afraid and didn’t eat the food. They shrugged and sighed and said whelp we will have do endless “evaluations” maybe someday he will be trainable. They didn’t get down and give him some love and make him comfortable. Nothing. These are the most inept, so called trainers I’ve ever seen. It’s probably best to look elsewhere. If they act that way while I’m standing right there, I can only image how they treat the dogs. Excellent! My 8 month old Aussiedoodle learned new commands and is getting control of himself where he used to jump and go crazy. Rachel did an exceptional job. Now, it's up to me to continue his training. Rachel actually taught him to heel. I can go for walks again without tripping over a crazy little guy. This is an excellent place to take your fur babies for training, daycare and boarding. DJ at Atlanta Dog Trainer is seriously the BEST! He has helped our Bowie so much, we cannot thank him enough. Bowie is a rescue that had a very rough start, and came with a lot of aggressive behaviors. Finally! I found trainers that helped me learn how to control my high energy lab at ATL Dog Trainer. We had a private lesson with D. J. and followed up with a 5-week course with Madeleine and Janet. 13 years ago, I was an unhappy practicing attorney in Atlanta and had begun learning about dog training as a result of having recently adopted an extremely high energy puppy. So, I searched for a dog training company where I could learn about the field and possibly start a new career. I emailed a few places and Susie quickly responded. After meeting with her and the team at Atlanta Dog Trainer, it was clear our philosophy on dog training was aligned and I decided to make a go of changing careers and becoming a dog trainer. I participated in all 3 levels with Susie at the Atlanta Dog Trainer Academy and was a full-time dog trainer by the end. And I haven't looked back! I had a terrible experience. I do not recommend this business to anyone. I signed my puppy up for classes and went to the first date listed, just to be immediately walked up to, no introduction, and chastised for having the wrong harness. I was confused and then told I signed up for the wrong class and to email them about the right class. No one ever got back to me. Overall, I have paid them over $1000 and the entire experience was so bad that I never even asked for my money back. We did the two week board and train with Rachel and it was the best thing we could have ever done for our sweet boy Bruce! He came back a new dog, in the best way possible! She sent us videos almost everyday with his progress. We felt very informed throughout the whole program and she did such an amazing job with him! She really is a dog whisperer!! We brought our 4 month old puppy for the boarding / training program. Our biggest concern was growing the puppy’s confidence and overcoming fears. Rachel was our dog trainer and she’d send us regular video updates of our dog’s training. We learned so much from Rachel (her gentle manner, voice, and techniques) and so did our dog ! The program includes lots of play time for the dogs (who are matched up according to size) regular training sessions, and a final session with us so we can continue to make progress with our dog. Loving Atlanta Dog Training! Rachel did a great job with our Golden Retriever Chance in Obedience classes & a few private lessons. She really taught us as much as she did Chance!
