As others have said, a great gym for lifters. Buying a year membership takes the price down a lot, especially during their occasional sales. But even at full price it's a great value. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that, as others have said, the "music" is always too loud, the same day after day, not at all good for lifting and usually full of really loud ads. Most people who want music bring their own, so not sure why this place is stuck in some '90s notion that it's motivational to blast people with noise. Lots of members feel this way but feel it's pointless to raise the issue with staff. More...

Did a trial here and will probably be signing up since the other gyms in this area are a complete laughing stock. Definitely a gym where you'd feel more comfortable being at least somewhat experienced, would be tough for newbies. Only issue I saw is why does everyone bench in the squat rack? Do they just let you do that even when it's busy like why I don't get it. Literally every bench is open but both squat racks are taken with people benching I just don't get why they even allow this to happen unless it's offpeak hours or something... really strange otherwise it has everything you need though it get's pretty messy too... dumbells all over the place etc... Just wish they actually enforced some rules especially for the price you pay... More...

They have a lot of bodybuilding but nothing is free like everyone I can’t understand why it is not free when so many gyms have it all and so much expensive not free but nice peoples mostly.

This gym is pricey. But if you are heal to work out and lift for real, then this gym is for you. The high price filters out the posers. The people that work out here have usually been coming for years. This gym is for the really dedicated. Machines are a bit old, and the men's bathroom always smells like protein farts but if these things bother you, you probably just wanna hit a treadmill at planet fitness for the first week of January anyway. I highly recommend this gym for those who are looking to a long term fitness solution, or body building. More...

This gym is a win win. Old school feel but still has all the machines you need to get the job done. When it’s “crowded” never feel like it is. I’ll say that 99% of the ppl that come train there are serious. No one is there wasting time and lolli -gagging. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. And for what they charge compare to other gyms it’s a steal specially if u work for the city or something, u get a discount. Deff would recommend to anyone considering joining. More...

i give them only four stars because i haven't worked out there yet but will next week using a day pass. i used to go to PF on 225 and frequently passed by this place. i was curious but intimidated by the people that i saw coming out of the place, really fit people that looked like professional bodybuilders. i figured it wasn't the place for mehowever, i was very impressed when given a tour. my first impression was that, although smaller than i'm used to (i've been to planet fitness, blink, 24 hour), the gym was packed with equipment. i didn't take an inventory but i did notice more than plenty of cardio machines and free weights. the second thing, and this was what impressed me the most, were the clientele and the staff. everyone was so friendly. everyone said hello to me. it was weird. good weird, though. you can tell that people are happy there and that they are very welcoming. when i noticed how people were working out, i could tell that they had a reason to be there and were serious about it. they were there to work out, not pose and socialize like they were in a night club. and they were content and enjoyed being there. and, guess what, everyone was there, old, young, slim, big, etc.the vibe was so positive and inspiring that i decided i will give them a shot next week. stay tuned..... Been a member for a year now. This gym had the potential to be the BEST gym in upper manhattan. Not to big, however, this is a HARDCORE BODYBUILDERS GYM. Really heavy weights. Thw gym NEVER gets crowded only because the yearly subscrip tips is overy $300. Think about it, with all the blinks and PF ppl ain't trying to pay Astral price, but I rather pay that price and know I'm in a REAL GYM. Not no PF or Blink where heaviest dumbell is 60lb (please). Great atmosphere, great environment and there are some GINORMOUS DUDES, which is a great motivation. If you are really serious about your growth, YOU DEF NEED TO SIGN HERE. More...
