After hanging out at the Station for a bit, a buddy and I decided to go for pizza. He swore by Anthony’s and I definitely could not refuse. We walk in to find two young women working behind the counter, and they were very kind and welcoming. My friend informed them that I was not from NJ, and that I had great expectations of their pizza. One of the girls started to make my pizza, when the other one said that she would take over...supposedly the second girl was the resident “expert”. I was happy to note the enthusiasm.We walk back to the seating area and seat ourselves. The place is cozy, clean and tastefully done with artwork adorning the walls. Once the pizza arrives ( medium veggie with olives, onions and jalapeños), we can’t wait to dig in, and we were not the least bit disappointed. The crust was so chewy and tasty, and the cheese was just perfect. I'm new to the area, I'm an Italian from South Philly, and a MAJOR foodie. Husband and I were in the mood for a nice piece of fish, Francaise Style over linguini. Peruzing pizza-joint menus online got tedious. Most of them only had shrimp listed in their "seafood"column, so I was so happy to see that Anthony's had Tilapia Francaise at a very reasonable price- $11.99 over pasta with a lovely spring mix salad (infused balsamic vinegar dressing on the side all packed up). The man who I ordered with on the phone was so professional and pleasant (he must not be from the area)- was the same man I met at the counter (perhaps the owner)-time will tell-- because this is my new spot. Where has the family meal deal been all my life? Called and placed my order with the nicest person in the food service industry. Wish I got his name, he was that nice. The family meal comes with trays of salad, a chicken dish (i think there are other options as well), a pasta and brownies. Said it serves 4-5.. no way, more like 6-7+! And the food was excellent! If you're looking for an inexpensive way to spend a night out with the family or catch a meal before the movie, stop by Anthony's. The food is incredible and the service friendly. Last night I had the lasagna, my wife the chicken sorrentino and my grand daughter, the stuffed shells. All came with a fresh salad and hot bread. We also did an appetizer of mozzarella sticks. It was all delicious. Dinner was topped with a cannoli for desert.We always get pizza delivered from them but it's nice to get out and enjoy the restaurant itself as well. I had the best Chicken Piccata of my life tonight. I have takeout at least 4 times a month. I'm used to getting food that, while it may taste good, does not necessarily have the best presentation. When I took the dish out of the bag, it looked like it was laid out for a banquet. There was ample pasta topped with 2.5 chicken breasts and artichoke hearts and capers laid out in a neat circular pattern covering the entire dish. The taste was even better: the chicken and pasta were cooked to perfection and the piccata sauce was incredible-- zesty and buttery all at the same time. Since there was so much, I planned to eat about 1/3 of it and save the rest for tomorrow. It was so good, however, that I ended up eating every last bit. It's a good thing that I have a 7 mile run planned for tomorrow morning! The cost of the dish was $12.95, which was a great value for food that could easily have fed 2 or maybe even 3 people who eat like I do at a typical dinner. I also ordered garlic knots as appetizer and these had a nice garlic taste and came with a good marinara sauce. There were 8 knots, each about the size of a Roma Tomato. The knots costs $3.95, which made them a great deal both for their flavor and the volume of food. Again, while it's not challenging to plate garlic knots, their presentation was far better than I expect for takeout food.The only reason that I'm giving Anthony's 4 stars instead of 5 is the salad that came with the entrée. It consisted of mixed salad greens from a bag, some shredded carrots and a few tomato slices. At best, both it and the dressing were unremarkable. I did find a few pieces of lettuce that were wilted, which made the entire salad a bit unappetizing. Also, the presentation was not up to snuff with the other items mentioned above: the salad was stuffed into what looked like a Big Mac carton, with the greens at the bottom and the carrots and tomatoes on top.All-in-all, I was very pleased with the dinner and am planning to come back in the near future to try the Chicken Pizziola and the "Simply Veggie" sandwich, among other menu items. I must say that this place has done a 180 since the days when it was Marianna's. 3 years ago, I had the worst pizza of my life at that place and vowed that I would never return. For those of you who associate 12 Claremont Rd. with that now mercifully defunct establishment, I urge you to go back and give Anthony's a try. Our boys dislike "sauce pizza" and after trying several places found Anthony's serves fresh mozzarella and fresh tomatoes on a deliciously thin crust. Both my guys asked for the pizza as their birthday or special occasion treat, and it's consistency is wonderful. My oddest lives going in to the store because of how welcoming the staff is also. The food smelled so good when I walked by I had to go in. I had an Italian sub. and it was very delicious. It was a big portion and everything was very fresh.
