When I first met Alana Bass I was completely underwater when it came to managing my books. There was employee theft that I didn't realize because my bookkeeping was in disarray and I had just undergone an IRS audit and owed a ton of back taxes because my old accountant had been doing everything wrong. I had a bookkeeper but apparently there’s a right way and a wrong way to account for things and Alana tirelessly straightened the whole mess out and then taught my bookkeeper how to properly enter things so that I’d know which of our services were making money. We own a non-profit and a for profit business which both interact with each other and there are very specific rules and regulations that fall into place when it comes to legally operating them. When my bookkeeper left, Alana showed me how she could take on this task for substantially less than I was paying my employee and now my books are in good order for less than I was paying before. Why is it so important for businesses to hire a great accountant?
Most business owners understand their business and what it takes to be successful. It's unfair, however, to expect them to be proficient in every facet of business management. In exactly the same way we may not understand every nuance of General Contracting, it's not realistic to expect a General Contractor to understand how to write his books, keep his books, read his books, and use them to best achieve his/her goals. We bring a wealth of expertise from both the revenue and cost side of the P&L to our clients which allows them to best attain their objectives.
What do you love most about your job?
It may sound corny but as one of our Principals who also teaches business classes at the KSU Coles College of Business and the EMBA program says, people only hire other people who make them more money than they spend, save them more money than they cost or are an integral part of production. There's a feeling of satisfaction when Marie Alana Bass, CPA PC becomes one, or most times, all three. To hear clients say how they feel safe and well taken care of brings us a sense of job satisfaction that outweighs the hours we put in to get them there.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Having started three successful companies, we found inspiration from the desire to bypass the non-customer centered trappings of corporate America and put ourselves in a position where the customer would come first. Yes, there was risk involved but with that risk came the reward of knowing how we were bypassing all the levels of bureaucracy that large firms have and giving our customers exactly what they needed and wanted. The freedom to choose our own path coupled with the increased financial remuneration that comes with running your own company is what truly inspired us to start our business.

Alana Bass, CPA PC provides all services remotely. While we started as a local Atlanta suburb boutique CPA shop, we have grown into virtual service provider with clients in almost all 50 states and overseas.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
As most of our clients are remote, keeping clients safe from Covid-19 hasn't been an issue. Likewise, all employees work remotely as well so the pandemic never affected us negatively.
