My husband and I chose viaARCHITECTURE because we had seen and were enamored of Fred and Erika's work. We are so happy we chose them to design and oversee the gut renovation of our home. From the very first meeting, in which our goals, needs, budget and wishes were discussed and refined, to the end, in which we found ourselves living in our dream apartment, working with Fred and Erika and their team was a joy. After a series of meetings, we were presented with an array of designs. The only problem for us was choosing one--each one was wonderful. After we selected one, Fred and Erika prepared detailed drawings and specifications for the job; preparing bid documents; helping us decide upon a number of contractors from whom to solicit bids; evaluating the bids and the relative merits of the contractors and their proposals; and preparing and overseeing the necessary documentation for the building department and our coop board. Once we selected the contractors, Fred and Erika oversaw and coordinated the progress of the work. They were very hands on, which we very much appreciated. During the process, a few additions to the design were made to reflect wishes we expressed but hadn't realized we had at the beginning of the job. As with anything involving construction, glitches arose along the way and it is how those glitches are handled that truly show the mettle of a professional. And here, Fred and Erika and their team shined. All things were handled expeditiously and well. viaARCHITECTURE also helped us complete the spectacular, yet comfortable, effect by guiding us in the furnishing of our place. Included in the design were floor-to-ceiling closets and kitchen cabinetry; office area cabinetry; stunning bookshelves; and bedroom furniture. All reflected a design that was unifying without being "matchy-matchy." In addition, viaARCHITECTURE came up with a furniture placement scheme that suited us perfectly and Erika helped us find and select furniture along with lighting fixtures. Also wonderful was the fact that the design was so original and tailored to our needs and wishes. The bathroom is amazing and includes custom cabinetry and shelving and a bathtub/shower surround that is perfect. Erika also designed a stunning and original ornamental stairway that fulfilled my wish to have a treehouse perch in a way I never could have dreamed of. Fred, among other great ideas, devised a column support system for our flat screen TV that not only makes it perfect for viewing from various angles, but also fits in so well that people who visit don't even notice the TV is there until we point it out. He also designed the wall and sill surrounding a very small window we have that opened it up, transforming it into a beautiful feature of our home. As I write this review, I look around and see, and delight in, the series of touches like this that were included throughout the design that make our home a place I love to spend time in. And the lighting!!! It's perfect and beautiful. As with everything else, Fred and Erika came up with a perfect lighting design and guided up patiently and expertly through the choices of fixtures. Throughout it all, our hands were held and we felt we were in very good hands and--to continue with the hands theme, as I mentioned above, they were very hands on. In the time since our renovation, we have loved our place more and more. It is stunning, yet also very comfortable and practical, with tons of storage. A wonderful combination of form and function. We find ourselves looking at one another and saying "Thank you Fred and Erika!" Working with Erika and Fred was a pleasure from beginning to end. We interviewed a ton of firms before choosing viaARCHITECTURE and never once regretted our decision. Not only is their design aesthetic unparalleled (one need only look at their website for confirmation of this fact), but their management of the project from beginning to end was seamless. I might be cheating since I am now working with viaArchitecture for the fourth time, twice for business renovation and redesign projects and two on my home.

The experience of undergoing a renovation can be overwhelming and anxiety producing, and of course, expensive. I cannot state strongly enough that working with Via is like getting a big shot of confidence. They are so assured in their work and so adept at truly "hearing" what you are saying you want the end result to be. The office space we renovated a few years ago wowed everyone who saw it, including the building's owner, who brought his entire family by for a walk through! My apartment landed in a book and on an HGTV series.

So, they are a joy to work with, and they never impose their personal aesthetic. They tease out your "look" and work from that to create places that reflect who you are, what your business is. It is truly a partnership.

It is a great privilege to work with these visionaries-who are also so practical in delivering beautiful results. More...

We did a gut renovation of our 2 bedroom apartment on the upper west side and it's upgraded, sleek and inviting. Via helped us plan a new layout that was within our budget and made a much needed improvement to our place. We have storage which we badly needed. They helped us choose the appliances, tile, lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. We love everything and couldn't be happier. They have excellent taste and great recommendations. More...

"It was our great good fortune to work with viaARCHITECTURE in the creation of our home. The work was to combine two co-ops units to create a triplex, and we continue to be thrilled with the results. It was a gut job renovation, and the design viaARCHITECTURE created utilized the space beautifully and practically ... particularly the staircase, a challenging component of the combination.
