What do you love most about your job?
Working with dogs -- whether training, walking, or just spending time with them -- is always fun and interesting, and an opportunity for both the dogs and myself to learn something. It's great to teach and watch dogs and their human counterparts learn how to understand each other better.
What inspired you to start your own business?
With a life-long interest -- and strong rapport -- with dogs, I initially helped friends that were having issues with their dogs; it was natural to then begin doing the work full-time (though by trade I am a professional musician and photographer).
Why should our clients choose you?
I have over 20 years of experience working with dogs, including training, behavioral modification, walking, feeding, and exercise monitoring (in cases wherein customers have a fenced-in area where their pups can run free for exercise). I use only force-free, positive reinforcement -- and patience -- to train dogs and their families.
Pay attention to whether a dog trainer makes use of things like prong, shock, or choke collars -- or recommends same -- as well as whether they apply physical force (or dominance) to achieve behavioral modification. Any trainer who applies these 'methods' is one to stay away from, as these approaches are misguided, hurtful, damaging, and completely unnecessary. Force-free, positive reinforcement is the humane way to go in order to earn the respect of your dog, instead of prompting them with pain and fear.
