Our 15 year wedding anniversary...boo for what was to be a special dinner.  The meal was comp'd but we would have preferred to pay for warm food and prawns in the Seafood Fettuccine like the menu indicates. Pros:- friendly and helpful wait staff - large portions- yummy food (mostly)- delicious warm bread rolls and balsamic glaze- nice outdoor seating options Cons: - few vegetarian options and no strictly vegan options (I ended up getting a veggie calzone with no cheese and I can't say I loved it). Would like to see a vegan pasta option and a vegan cheese substitute (tofu ricotta, alternative like Diaya, etc.)- slow service- we had to ask for water several times- seemed to be some confusion amongst wait staff. Like bus boys were asked to serve drinks and pour water but didn't know which tables to go to or consider filling everyone's water at the table. Extremely disappointed, our waiter was sweet enough. We had made reservations far in advance, yet they were "swamped" and clearly overwhelmed.  We were told, After 1.5 hours, our food was getting plated. I've lived in Eugene for 10 years and always geared great things about this place but last night I found out none of that was true. This was one of the worst Italian meals I've had to sit through. We got the fettuccine Alfredo and ravioli both were house made and you could tell most of the ravioli had little to no filling and the fettuccine was clumped and undercooked on my plate if you're gonna take the time to make fresh pasta atleast cook it correctly pretty basic. All of our food lacked any flavor could have really used something acidic rather than just the taste of butter.I will never eat here again and will never recommend it to anyone. What a waste of $70. Oh and the 1 meat ball... you guys are a joke More...

We had a terrible dinner tonight....our salad used romaine lettuce that must have been days older than it's expiration date.  The seafood fettuccine was also a complete disaster!  The noodles were stuck together and were like rubberyi dough.....the sauce was flavorless. The few shrimp and scallops were ok....waiter was wonderful. Get it together, Mazzi's!  Your food is comparable to a Denny's, but your prices reflect you should be serving good food. Ordered to go dinner at 530. Told food would be ready at 6. At 642, half the food finally came out and then at 647 the rest. Arrived home to find the sauce for the now stone cold and rubbery calamari had been forgotten. And the roasted garlic and cheese appetizer had garlic so raw you could not eat it. Used to be good. Mazzis is a phenomenal place. Whether you're coming for a date night, group setting or just alone. The service is impeccable and the food is amazing. Jackson, our server was extremely attentive and very kind. He joked with us while still keeping our meals perfect and our orders exactly how we wanted. Thank you so much Mazzis! We used to eat here weekly back in the 80s and 90s. Quit coming when we moved further away and Mazzi's went down hill. It's probably been 20 years since we considered coming back. Boy, was I surprised last night!  My chicken piccata was wonderful and our 15 year old granddaughter said it was the best salmon she has ever had. Trust me, she eats salmon everywhere she goes!  The pepperoni pizza was also good but looked a little greasy. I, personally didn't try it. My husband didn't care for the Marco calzone. He said it was too juicy. He will just need to order something else next time. We definitely will be adding Mazzi's back to our dining list. Also, we had VERY attentive service. More...

We went to Mazzi's on a recent Thursday night to celebrate both of our birthdays. We have been going to Mazzi's for many, many years and just love Steph, our server. I was disappointed with my Chicken Marsala. If i had closed my eyes and tasted it, i could not have told you it was marsala. Also, there were pools of butter or olive oil on the plate. Not something i like to see. Way too much grease for me. However, the meal took -so- long to arrive, i didn't want to send it back. We had a birthday dinner for six adults. We were seated on time with our reservation, which was good. Our waitress seemed distracted and definitely not on the ball. We had to ask for everything without being offered refills. Food was OK. Nothing more than average. I had The ravioli with mushrooms and it was verging on being cold. Caesar salad was OK. It just seems like Mazzi's doesn't offer the quality like they used to. To It off our waitress could not figure out how to split the checks for us and it took several attempts. Our server was wonderful! He was charismatic and was great at holding conversation. He was kind and checked on us often. The host was pretty underwhelming. She was very quiet, and it seemed like she was having a bad day. The atmosphere seemed underwhelming too. It's got a kind of rustic look and there're fireplaces, but it's still pretty cold, and reminds me of papa's pizza. The food itself wasn't bad at all, but for the price we paid, which was nearly twenty dollars a dish, I was expecting greatness. It also bothers me that there's no fresh cheese to put on the pasta dishes. But maybe that's just me. Overall, this place isn't terrible, but for the price, and wait time, it's just decent. Service was terrible. Waited for 1.5 hrs for the table even with the reservation. Took another 1.5 hours for foods to serve. Foods were served cold. We were starving so we asked our server to just heat them up in the microwave but it took her another 50 mins to heat up the foods. When asked, the waitress responded "oh, you still want your foods hot?" .... seriously No water refilled or any courtesy to check on us if we wanted another round of drinks. There were less than 5 tables in the entire restaurant but the service was not attentive at all. The table next to ours ordered the minestrone soup and it was served at the room temperature. They weren't happy either.They charged us a mandatory 18% gratuity for the party of 6 for poor service and cold foods. Worst dinning experience ever! Last night we wanted to come here after picking up my sister and brother in law from the airport. We called to make sure that they were open and take us as guests when we arrived since we know things close so early here. They assured us as long as we got our order in by 9, when the kitchen closes that we were good to go. Excited to try our father's favorite Italian restaurant (which says a lot because our mother, when she was alive, was a superlative chef of this cuisine). Cool little place that our relatives really love and wanted to take us to while we're visiting them. Great interior and decor. The service was decent but slow throughout the meal. It turns out they were under staffed due to an injured waiter that wasn't able to work that night. No biggie though and the waitress was very nice. The food was good. I enjoyed the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. The large plate was very large and was a great leftover dinner the next night too. I did need to ask for more Alfredo sauce. My wife's filet mignon and potatoes was delicious and bro and sis loved their usual dishes. The desserts were also great. Raspberry sorbet was excellent and 2 big scoops. I couldn't stop eating it. Great experience! The husband and I got out for a date night!! No kids, it was lovely fire, flowers and Greg the waiter was amazing! Helpful suggestions and a delish meal. I had the filet and was cook perfect. I ate every bite of my meal. My husband had a veggie pasta with feta and olives. I was surprised to see Mazzi's had such low reviews, when their parking lot is almost constantly packed. I decided to ignore the reviews and go for my birthday dinner. We were seated next to the window, but a few minutes after we were seated I noticed the table by the fireplace had been cleared. I asked if it would be much trouble to be moved there and they happily accommodated us. We definitely had the best seat in the house. Our server was gracious and attentive. We had the stuffed mushrooms app which, while not what i expected, was delicious. (save some bread to dip in the sauce with this one!) I ordered the Cannelloni off the specials menu and it was incredible. It melted in my mouth and was so rich I had to take some home. I also liked that they asked whether I wanted red or white sauce with it, rather than picking one themselves (I prefer white.) Alternatively, I tried my partner's calzone and was not terribly impressed. Overall I'd say it's not the best Italian food in town- but the atmosphere and service certainly makes up for it. More...

Mazzi's is not what it used to be. Took my 2 kids to dinner on a Monday night school night. Got there at 6, left after 8pm! 2 hours is too long. The lettuce on our salads was stale and watery, swimming in dressing. The waitress was all over the place, made lot's of mistakes and went missing for a while. My kid's meatballs were soggy and mushy, my $21 chicken parm tasted like a microwave meal. Unfortunately we will not be going back, until things get fixed here. I came to play PacMan while waiting for a table.  PacMan not working.  Therefore bad review. Please fix PacMan like it worked in 1983. I am so disappointed. I have been eating at this place for YEARS. Since I was a baby with my family, and have enjoyed all of my experiences both the food and the service. I haven't been back in around a year or so and this was possibly one of the worst experiences I have had at an Italian restaurant ever. I knew from the get-go when we arrived and it was far from the normally crowded Saturday night that something was very different from the amazing atmosphere I have grown to love. The waitress a tall brunette with a bun and a bad attitude was training someone new (anyone but her should have been doing this). We told her we were ready to order right away because we knew what we liked on the menu. She dismissed us and told us she would be with us later after greeting us and asking for our drink order (we got water) and doing LITERALLY NOTHING. I've worked in food service and have NEVER walked away when someone was ready to order right away, and considered that so unprofessional. She came back quite a bit later and we ordered both our salads and entres. She never clarified anything but returned with the wrong salad for me and disappeared. Our bus boy was FANTASTIC. He corrected the problem right away (after my party had finished both their soup and salad and I was sitting there looking around for our waitress) and was extremely gracious and got us fresh ground pepper (normally offered by the server) and my correct salad, as soon as we asked. She never checked in and brought the entres. The waitress was not tuned in and I wasn't the only one to feel that way. The minestrone and bread was great as usual but the Fettuccine Alfredo was dismal (once both my brother and fathers favorite meal). The noodles were stuck together, something the likes of something a college frat boy would make and the "Alfredo sauce" if you can even call it that dripped like water. I proceed to go to the women's bathroom where there was piss all over one toilet seat, neither stall had toilet seat covers (gross gross) and the other toilet would not flush. This used to be my go to Italian place for all my birthdays and special occasions. I am so sad at how far it's fallen in service, food, and cleanliness. Really cannot recommend this restaurant.  Although the Caprese salad appetizer was good, the underwhelming entree was what stands out the most.  Ordered the chicken piccata and the portion size compared to the price was head-scratching. No more than two chicken tenderloin strips in size for $23. Then not to have a single Caper on the plate left me wondering if I'd even enjoy the meal. We have been going to Mazzi's for years. We look forward to the deliciously heavy rolls, the salad with Gorgonzola dressing, or, for my husband the Italian dressing, and the fabulous spumoni for dessert. Tonight was our last visit to Mazzi's. The rolls were so dry that they disintegrated into crumbs all over the table. They were nothing like what we used to love. The menu was ok for the guys in the group, but for a non pasta person like me, there wasn't much to choose from. I finally found a risotto dish, only to find it was not available. I settled for soup and salad. The minestrone was thin and salty and the salad was large and fresh and crisp, but it wasn't the thick Gorgonzola of my dreams. The guys were disappointed in their pasta with salty marinara and not exactly what they ordered. Finally I was able to have my dessert,the spumoni. Finally,they got it right. I love that spumoni! It was the best part of the meal and I ate every bite and wanted to lick my dish. The wine pours were generous and our waitress was awesome! She knew I wasn't happy and did everything she could to find something I would like. She even brought me another spumoni to take home . Kamari's, you are awesome. You deserve a raise and a big bonus! I know all restaurants have off nights but....it starts with our server who acted like she needed a vacation. Not very attentive.Then the one hour wait for our food.I am not saying we will never be back but if the kitchen is having issues..let us know.In the past it's always been very good.I was surprised that 5 adults and one child is a large party so a 18% tip was automatically added. Really upset about our experience tonight at Mazzis. We've eaten there 5-6 times, and the service has always been mediocre. Tonight however- I was pissed. It's Father's Day, so we arrived early to avoid the crowd. We also knew we had to be out by 7:30 so our daughter could get to work. We allowed PLENTY of time. We arrived at 5:15, and were seated quickly. We ordered appetizers and drinks, which arrived in a reasonable amount of time. However, we waited another hour + to get our entrees. People seated just before us, AND very much after us were served, ate and left. Clearly, it wasn't our servers fault- but she did decide to avoid us after we had waited 40 minutes. When the food finally arrived- at 7:15, we were forced to order to go boxes in order to meet our schedule. Really ruined our  celebration, and because we don't often get together, it was upsetting! They did comp the bottle of wine, but I am still confused why- with empty tables- we had to wait as long as we did. Yes- a few entrees were baked dishes, but the time was still excessive. As I sit at my table awaiting food after one hour and 30 minutes, I can't but help rate the poor service that I have received tonight. I have asked for drinks multiple times as well as a refill on bread. The waiter is overworked as he is the only one serving the entire room. I will say however... the food did come and it was fine. The waiter comped the salad substitute that they sent out and after service was completed, several people asked if our meal was sufficient. All in all, I will come back and try once again. More...

We traveled to Eugene today to show our granddaughter U of O (our alma mater). We decided to meet a friend who works at U of O for dinner. Because our granddaughter LOVES pasta, we chose Beppe and Gianni's for our destination. Even on a Tuesday night, the restaurant was packed. The aromas were dazzling but the noise level was exceedingly loud, and our friend has hearing aids so we felt like it was a bad choice. So, we left and drove to Mazzi's. The restaurant was not near as noisy. However, there were several large groups dining so it took a very, very long time to get our food. Tivon (the host) and our food server and bus boy were running their legs off. In spite of it, they stayed warm and friendly throughout the evening. The food server even gave us a bunch of extra rolls (THE BEST!) and a free slice of cheesecake to share. The food here is adequate. My hubby said too much garlic on his food. Our granddaughter scraped off some of the pesto on her noodles. I loved my Margarita pizza. Our friend said her stromboli was delicious - and enough for two meals. More...

Tried Mazzi's again despite not being thrilled with their service the last time I went with family a few years back. As soon as I sat down at the bar I instantly regretted giving this establishment another chance. While I'll admit they use to be good they are complete trash now. I should have just gone to Beppe's instead, a true Italian restaurant and perhaps thee only in town I highly suggest going there instead. The bartender was rude and remarked how "everyone is born in the 90's these days"... made me feel out of place and awkward right off the bat (I was born in 91). I should mention he didn't make any remark about my boyfriends ID after staring at his for an hour (he's an 80's kid, 30 btw). The staff all in all is careless and unprofessional. This bartender btw was getting "trained" by a man who was stuck up and down right degrading. They were gossiping behind the bar and both took their break together leaving no one behind the bar I was forced to fetch for my own damn pepper. The bread was GMO and stale tasting. I figured when you get bread served at a REAL Italian restaurant they give you at the very least olive oil and balsamic vinegar... (I had to ask for both)... If that shouldn't have clued them in to asking if I would like pepper or bringing out some Parmesan idk what would. The staff is bitter and very angry and hostile towards customers. The food tasted like it was heated up in the microwave with way too much flour to thicken the sauce that still lacked thickness. Honestly I could go on and on but point blank a piece of advice: DON'T GO HERE. Terrible food. Angry staff. Downright depressing so called service. I come to a restaurant to enjoy good food and relax. Not beg for this and that because you failed to offer and then have to listen to your childish gossip. Damn I just hope the owner reads this. Very good food! Great atmosphere to bring friends and family. I come here all the time but as of recently the managerial service isn't up to par. I've had bad service constantly and for a small restaurant it can get very very loud and the manager(s) won't do anything about it. Kinda ruins dinner and coming here. We have been to Mazzis before and had expectations. This night was the last time we will ever go. It took a long time for someone just to take our drink order The drinks were wrong and had to be replaced. When they arrived, they were VERY short on liquor. I'm attaching a photo of my "Gentleman's Ginger". ($9.00)It took even longer to order and get our food. The Calzone was doughey and simply had cold tomato sauce dumped on top. Very flavorless.My cioppinno was over $20 and was almost inedible. Spicy and thick tomato sauce made it difficult to enjoy.To the waiter's credit, he did offer me a dessert to make up for it, but by then I was already feeling sick  from the cioppinno. I like Mazzi's ristorante. A dozen years ago I had their "whatchamacallit?" pizza pie. Oh... calamazone? Whatever. Anyway... I had it on a number of occasions whenever friends brought takeout.  Last Valentine's Day (or maybe the one before...lol) we had nothing planned for the evening and at the last minute decided to try Mazzi's for dinner thinking we'd be able to get a table. The only reason I thought this was a viable option is because Mazzi's generally gets trashed on the Facebook group "Eugene Foodies"-- I figured it'd be EASY-in. SOOOO dang WRONG!!!Walking in the front door was a shocker-- the waiting area was filled with peeps sitting and standing. The restaurant was PACKED to the gills and buzzing w activity (it's a large restaurant w a lot of tables). The hostess took out her reservation book and there were at least 15 names on the list before she added ours. NO WAY this was going to be a short evening and no way were we going to try another restaurant. We asked if there was a bar, so we could sip and wait and were directed to a horseshoe shaped bar with no open seating (of course) but, the bartender was present and serving up. SCORE! As soon as we walked up, 2 guests were leaving! Batter up... we're on FIRE! We ordered an EXCELLENT bottle of red wine around $80 (to the best of my recollection) and the special: Filet and lobster. Sold!!! The food was absolutely fabulous... seasoned and cooked perfectly. Service was awesome... everything was perfect, so my guy ordered up a 2nd bottle of red. Dinner finished... wine nearly gone... bartender tells us that the owner wanted to thank us w a complimentary dessert and dessert wine. WOW!!! Really? Thank you!The dessert was a delicious chocolatey something something and the dessert wine was just as yummy.   Such a great night... fun... delicious... unexpected! I've been back a number of times since and would encourage you to pop into Mazzi's and enjoy the cute atmosphere... the deck... the fabulous wait staff... the food... the wine. I had a fabulous Syrah on my second visit  I'd also suggest anything with Al Fredo (which I've never liked before). Very disappointing! Should have done more research.We called and made reservations for our party of 20 a few weeks in advance. We even called and spoke with a manager the day of our reservation asking that our large party be broken into three tables. Dillion seems to comprehend our request. When we arrived they had not even come close to meeting our request and then our server started giving us lame excuses as to why our request was not honored.Well, her service went down hill from there.We arrived at 6:30 and our first course did not arrive until nearly 90 minutes later. I told our server we all had a two hour drive back to Portland that evening and that it would be nice if she could speed up our food. She rolled her eyes and said, "I'll try." Now to make matters worse, a table of eight arrived after us, nearly an hour after us, and was done eating and leaving as our salads arrived. Our food did finally arrive and it was passable. You could tell it was rushed. The calamari was greasy and clumped together. The salads were not evenly dressed, and our server mixed up plates.The worst thing is she added their "mandatory" 20% to our checks for large parties when she did not deserve 5%.I would NOT recommend Mazzi's! The food was very good.  The wait staff on the other hand was lacking.  We ordered an Appetizer that never came to the table. Our food arrived and the waitress said oh. Well no charge and I will bring it anyway. After we had finished our meal the appetizer arrived. The waitress sat it down and walked away. No clean saucers or a spoon to to scoop out the stuffed mushroom.  After about 10 minutes she finally stopped back by and we got a spoon but no clean plates.  Even though the staff is as lacking the food was very good.  I would visit again just hope for a different waitress. I have been an on again off again Mazzi's customer since I was in college in Corvallis in the late 80s, then Eugene in the early 90s and then again since 2010. Located in front of Hideaway Bakery, dinner here is always cozy and comfortable. Seating can be scarce and service can get a little slow when they are busy at the peak of dinner, but the staff, especially the long term veteran staff, always work promptly to make you feel relaxed. Have a glass of wine at the small bar while waiting for your table! The kitchen always serves quality, correctly prepared meals. They have a seasonal creative list up front and familiar favorites in the rest of the menu.  My wife and I really like their house Italian dressing tossed salads. I love the house made pasta and it's among the best in Eugene. Mazzi's is comfort and quality, and the list of options is long, including pizza (but I always order entrees). The wine list is good,  especially the Italian imports, and there are inexpensive carafe options. I've had some less responsive service at times with new trainee servers, but this is only occasional. When I want Italian comfort quality dinner with decent service, and pay fair prices, then Mazzi's is the place. They feed me delicious meals when I'm a little jittery. And I am eager to come back. Mazzi's used to mean a special dinner when I lived in Eugene 18 years ago. When I moved back last year I couldn't wait to visit more often now that I'm grown up and can afford it! In the last year, and five visits I am realizing that there is not much that is special about most of the food. The atmosphere is still amazing. The bread is to die for (ask for oil and balsamic). Great wine selection. Good espresso and desserts. Service is mostly great. But dinner. Ugh. Every pasta dish is way over sauced. If you order fettuccini expect it to be clumped together. Salads are over dressed. The bolognese is super greasy. Chicken Piccata is bland. Calzone is dry. In a nutshell I guess I still love a lot about Mazzi's. Just not the entrees. I know I will win if I order appetizers (all sauce and dressing on the side), bread, wine and desserts. But I would love to have a proper pasta dish at Mazzi's. I wish they would respect the difficulty of cooking, saucing and plating pasta and hire actual chefs. More...

We reserved 1 1/2 hours to eat before a show at the Hult. We were told we would have a 25 minute wait to be seated. We were seated 50 minutes later. We saw lots of empty tables for at least 20 minutes before they sat an entire waiting room at once. We immediately ordered and told our waitress we were in a hurry. ....  20 mins later we were still waiting. We communicated our time concerns to the host and waitress at least a half dozen times, including a request that if we could not be accomodated we needed to find another eatery.... The cook delivered our food at the thirty minute mark (Thx). We gobbled it down and left... skipping drinks, salad, and dessert.My spouse waitressed at another Mazzis decades ago and we are long time patrons. The recipes have changed a little over time, but the food quality is still very good.Clearly the service issues start at the top with the (Saturday) manager, whether it be the culture or inadequate staffing - not to remove responsibility from the host or waitress either.Mazzis holds and will contine to hold a special place in our hearts based on our past history. I grew up in South Eugene and Mazzini's has always been the original destination for Italian food. We had a special guest from San Francisco's with us and bragged about our local establishment. Our waitress was non-existent. We ordered drinks and appetizers. Our drinks arrive long after appetizers were served although we could see them sitting on the bar. We ordered dinner and salads arrived, still no drinks. When the drinks finally arrived one was forgotten. The food was delicious but the waitress never check back with us during the entire meal. My first visit here was in 1985...yes, I very long time ago!  I was a kid and this was THE FANCY place in Eugene. Its not all that fancy in retrospect but certainly has a touch of class with a casual atmosphere.  Come as you are works here.  I ordered the Cioppino because I love that type food.  I have eaten Cioppino all over this state and have found there are some amazing recipes that will knock your socks off!  This isn't one of them but it's "ok" and a little overpriced for the lack of the full bodied flavor that is customary with this dish.  The liquid in the soup was reminiscent of the very same sauce they use for their meatless spaghetti. It very well may be....they could kick it up with some red pepper or Italian hot peppers, maybe even black pepper so that it is made for this dish and not another dish. They amount of seafood was very good and hence the fourth star.  If it weren't for that, it would have been a three star rating.  Ill still come back like I have over the years, just not for the Cioppino. Let me start off to say I'm BIG on reviews because I truly believe in good customer service and feel like no matter what company small or big should treat their customers good. I planned a Christmas party here and was really excited about doing it at Mazzi's because I love the environment and love Italian food! Unfortunately, my experience was awful! I'm an event planner in the area and love to help throw parties but this was by far the worst situation. I was very communicative throughout the entire process (I called 3 times before the event date to give them updates on how many people etc) well with the holidays we had some last minute cancellations (completely out of my control) anyways the waiter we had treated us so so poorly that I was embarrassed for his sake! He was very stressed and took it out on all of us ladies there at the party! He was extremely rude and rushed us so that he could get out of there, stomped off with our bills when we went to go split the check (which I spoke to the restaurant ahead of time to make sure we could split the checks up) we weren't done drinking our water but he didn't ask us if we were done and just took everything, was huffing and puffing because I think he was upset that we didn't order more than we did (we don't drink alcohol so I think he was expecting more) also the restaurant didn't communicate very well with him because he thought we were going to be a party of 27 (which that was never the case) and the restaurant should've communicated that to him but instead he took it out on us!So my conclusion is that I would not recommend this place to anyone because of how things were handled and my parents go here on a regular basis and my husband takes me on a date here once in a while so it saddens me to say I won't be or my parents won't be back here nor will I recommend it to any friends or family! I really liked the owner but he didn't seem to want to help us out when we went and spoke to him at the end he was apologetic which was nice but didn't offer to help!I hope this helps! More...

The menu is extensive, and there is really something for everyone. My kids really liked the pizza here. We were a large party and had mixed reviews on the food. Those who ordered pasta dishes were extremely happy; my Chicken Marsala was just okay, but it is my favorite dish and I'm quite picky about it. My friend ordered the Cioppino, and while it was good, it did not really have any broth whatsoever--it was more like a seafood sauce than a stew. The bread is fresh and abundant. The service was very good. We especially enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the fact that we got a quite table near the fireplace in one of the back rooms.  We'll definitely be back and look forward to trying more menu items. The food and service were very good here. It is a noisy family place and people are yelling and talking very loud which hey I get it its family right?  So, that said, if you want to have a decent conversation that most people at the table can hear you would not come here.  That is just the vibe here and thats ok.  The food was very good.  I had vegetable lasagne and my husband had chicken marsala...which he loved. The kids had pizza and brought half of it home.  I would not knock a place down a star because its noisy. Thats not really controllable if people are just enjoying themselves. I gave them a 4 because, no matter what they say, they forgot the entree for one of the people at our table. Mazzi's has been hit and miss but now it falls more into the "miss" category. While some of the food was good, especially the fettuccine alfredo, it's hard to get past the fact that I had to wait for more than an hour for a plate of spaghetti and the wait staff was entirely disinterested. I feel more often than not that I was bothering her. Keep in mind that this happened well before the dinner rush. Very inconsistent.  Went on a Monday evening and had an amazing meal. Went back on Thursday of the same week and I ordered the exact same thing. The main course was completely different. First time chicken was tender in an amazing broth with vegetables. Second time no broth a heavy red sauce, no vegetables and pasta added in the dish and the chicken was dry and tough. Recently ate at this restaurant for the first time. When we arrived we were put on a waitlist and were told it would be a  25-30 min wait. We decided to get a drink at the bar. The bartender was abrupt and in my opinion, rude in the way he spoke to us. 1 1/4 hours later we were seated. Since we had been at the restaurant for about 2 hours when the food came one person in our party needed to go and asked to have her food to go instead. 20 min later the to go box came.. poor service!  To top it off I found a hair in my second bite of food. Wonderful service by steph she was lovely! The food is amazing and very authentic. We went for our three year anniversary of meeting each-other. We had eaten here a few times and it was OK.  Many people love Mazzi's so we went back.  After an hour and 20 minutes they seated us in an otherwise empty back room.  It would have been fine except that there was literally squashed food and trash on the floor by our table.  Service was OK except that they had to have seen the floor yet made no effort to do anything about it.  The food was OK but pricey for what it was.  As I was paying the check a few large gobs of soot fell from a vent right on me.  Not really a great night out.  I doubt we'll go back. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner after one of our friends suggested going here and let me tell you, it was incredible. We got there around 6 pm with no reservation and waited about 20 minutes as they were super busy. But when we finally got to our table it was a cozy little spot. We ordered a Gentlemen's Ginger and a raspberry cremosa both were yummy, as we kept taking sips from each other's drinks. For dinner, I ordered the salmon and alfredo dish and he had the blackened chicken alfredo. Again, we had bites of each others. My salmon was perfectly cooked and melted like butter on my tongue. The blackened chicken had so much flavor and really made both dishes some of the best food we've ever had. Our server ( I believe her name was Kamaria) was excellent and super nice. I've eaten at Mazzi's about ten times over a number of years, three of them being recent visits.  I would summarize these first two visits as four stars.  This is not world-class Italian fare, mind you, but it's a huge step up in ambience and food choices from chains such as Olive Garden, at about the same prices.The first of these three visits, I had lasagne and barbera for wine.  I thought the barbera was a good selection at the price of $7.50, easily better than the $11 wine I had at Grit (see my review) never mind the price difference.Oddly, the lasagne was not very hot, especially as I moved away from the edge of the dish.  It was actually cool in the center.  My waiter apologized and very quickly offered to get it reheated.  This took some time, as thankfully, the apparently did not use a microwave to warm it up.  And when it came back, it was HOT!When it came time to settle up, the server had removed the charge for the lasagne.  I protested as I certainly wasn't upset and was not looking for a freebie.  He was insistent and invited me back again.So I went back again, and coincidentally, sat in the section staffed by the same server (I've forgotten his name- a man in his 20's I would guess).  He not only remembered me, but asked if I was going to get the lasagne and barbera or something else!  This is impressive.  I ordered the same thing, and you can be sure it was piping hot the first time.In both visits I ordered the small Caesar salad as an appetizer.  Fresh romaine, just enough dressing, moderate garlic taste (no anchovies).  The croûtons however, are rock hard.  The meal comes with hard crust rolls and butter (no offer of oil and balsamic vinegar).  On these first two visits the rolls were chewy but deliciously so.Visit number three- boringly, I ordered the same meal for the third time.  My server was quite attentive.  My lasagne arrived just warm enough, but as I got into it, it was not hot at all.  Again I asked to have it reheated.I can't imagine what the issue is getting the lasagne to be heated all the way through.  I accept that they would make these up ahead of time and keep them in the fridge.  But it seems like it would be a very simple thing to get them to come out consistently.I have also sat at the bar in the past, and found the bartender to be efficient but not at all friendly or engaging.  I had asked him for insight into the glass pour wines, and while he was quick to put a couple of tastes in front of me he was pretty brusque.To sum up- I find the ambience a little quieter and warmer than Bepe and Gianni's, but I think the food and service at Bepe's is a step up at not all that much of a higher price.I'm not knowledgeable or a huge fan of Italian food.  While my repertoire is a lot wider than lasagne, it just happens that I was in the mood for it when visiting Mazzi's. Was busy when we went in. Good selection of wine and a entrees. Definitely at the top of the list for legit local Italian. Service was very good too. YUM, YUM, YUM! My husband and I recently ate here for our Date night, and it was FANTASTIC! I have been going to Mazzis for 40 years.  I love the place!  I would even go to the one in Portland on a regular basis.  I visit Eugene every summer and I always go to Mazzis because it reminds me of my childhood and I just loved the food in the past.  Here's what happened:  The server brought us our meal without bringing the salad/soup first.  When I asked her why she brought our entrees first she blew me off.  Had she apologized on the spot I might feel differently at this point, but she didn't and that was unprofessional. When we did receive our minestrone soup it was very much like a broth or rather bottom of the barrel soup not much veggies in the soup.  The salad had dirt in it and wasn't cleaned well and the lettuce was wilted! Yuck!   The spaghetti, meatballs and ravioli was great.  I think they change the recipe for the rolls they are not like they used to be.  Overall was pretty disappointed but they made due as I did complain and they comp'd our dinner for us.  Thank you for that Mazzis.  I will try and come back again but I may have to let my favorite restaurant go after that experience. I've been to here twice now. The first time was for my friend's bachelorette party a couple years ago. The second was my birthday last weekend. I had a crab fettuccini (not in the menu anymore) on my first visit and an Italian sausage, spinach cannelloni in cream sauce on my second visit. We are new to the area and I was craving chicken parmigiana so after some research, we decided on Mazzi's since we couldn't find anywhere else that makes it. My husband was tired after work so he picked it up to go. When he got there he made sure to ask the guy helping him to include bread. He assured him that the dinners came with rolls, which satisfied my husband. When he got home, however, there were no rolls in the bag. Also no plasticware, no napkins. Pretty standard stuff for take-out. As for the food, my husband's ravioli was okay, but my chicken parmigiana was far below par. I would never order that again. Perhaps they have other dishes that they are known for, besides these. I'm not sure. We order take out a lot more often then we dine in so if a restaurant doesn't care about their takeout orders, why would we return? I just don't know if we will go back. More...

We've been here at least 7 times, never a bad meal, never bad service, always 5 star! Really bizarre why there's only a 3 star rating on yelp. The price paid is certainly reasonable; good meat and fish is expensive for the restaurant. There's usually a lot of customers, sometimes there's a wait for a table, but that's a big clue that it's good food for a good price! Just the ambiance there is also wonderful! Wow I have been to Mazzi's many times over the last few years, and I had the absolute worst experience last night. First of all, there were many free tables, but we had a group of five not four and so we had to wait about 30 minutes when they could have just pulled a chair up. The hostess was THE WORST she should never work in customer service rude and snotty are some good words to use for her. She was rolling her eyes at customers and being very rude. The waiter was okay not great. The next problem is the drinks and food. We had to track our waiter down for refills and sat there for AN HOUR waiting for our food. Other people around us decided to not wait and left, but our waiter told us our food would be to us soon, and it took about another 30 minutes after he said that for us to get it. I had the half fettuccine Alfredo and half ravioli and it was freezing cold when it came out of the kitchen. At this point since we were celebrating a birthday I just got over it, but for how expensive my meal was it should have been sent back. For how much the prices are at this restaurant this kind of treatment and VERY SLOW service should not be acceptable. In a nutshell....five stars for ambiance, food, service, value and a great first time dining experience.We dined this past Monday evening just before 6 p.m. and the dining room was beginning to fill.  That is a good sign on a Monday night.  We asked to be seated near the fireplace and we were happily accommodated by the hostess.  Our server greeted us, and our water glasses were filled and kept filled (we appreciate that).  Our on-tap local microbrews were very good!  My partner goofed up on ordering our appetizer (thinking that the roasted garlic and cambazola was a salad option)  but when it arrived it was clear he didn't get the right item.  We asked for a Caesar salad to split and said we would pay for our mistake since we totally goofed up, but our waiter was so kind he said "no, it's ok.  enjoy it."   VERY NICE!I ordered the Mazzi's ravioli (small portion) -which by the way DOES incl. spinach as an ingredient on the menu- and was just going to get the tomato sauce but our waiter suggested that the mushroom sauce was really good, so I ordered that.  My partner ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese.  OMG!  Both of us were soooo happy with our choices!  My ravioli was so tender and almost dissolved upon touching my tongue!  The mushroom sauce was like a marinara sauce but thicker and soo flavorful!  The Bolognese was equally as delicious and wish I had split my order w/ my partner!  Luckily he is very kind letting me dive into his pasta dish without stabbing my hand with a fork...but I would not have faulted him if he had on this occasion.  It was very very good!!!   For the small portion size of my ravioli was rather large.  I had to get a to-go box to take home 1/2 of my portion.  My partner polished off his dish (no surprise).  I was a bit surprised at how many families were there.  The reason why I say I was surprised is that in a room which had more than 8 kids (under the age of 12) the noise was so nominal.  The children at various tables were really well-behaved.  I'm not used to seeing so many kids in a nice restaurant where there are no "playrooms" and where kids are well-behaved.  Was a very nice sight to see and nice experience for us as a childless adult couple.VALUE!  We very much feel that we got more than our money's worth.  Not only does Mazzi make amazing food from scratch but they support local suppliers and even their neighbor, Hideaway Bakery (just behind their restaurant).  My partner and I eat 90 percent or more organic and do our homework to support only businesses that are striving to use organic ingredients and local sustainable farmed/sourced ingredients!WE WILL BE BACK!!!! My husband and I went here last week. It is a very cozy and intimate restaurant. The hostess lacked a personality, just called out our name and then walking us over to the table, without saying anything. We sat by the fireplace, which was not only warm, but really intimate. For celebrating our anniversary, it was absolutely perfect. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and especially the wine list. He got very high marks for listening to our tastes and giving recommendations. He definitely did well in the wine department. The stuffed mushrooms are delicious and covered in copious amounts of cheese. So you can't go wrong with garlic and cheese. My husband had the chicken parm. It was wonderful. The chicken had a perfect crispy breading on it, in a great sauce. I could've stolen his plate and eaten it myself. I had the ravioli, that I wasn't terribly impressed by. It had spinach in inside of them, which I don't remember reading on the menu when I ordered it. But it had a "baby poop green" color, which was not appetizing. I asked our waiter about it, because I was afraid to eat it, given the color. He told me it had the spinach inside it, then stated it was greener than normal, and it was likely "extra fresh spinach" that caused the color. I ate a few bites, but the color just creeped me out, so I ended up taking it home to let my husband eat the following day. He lived through eating it and showed no ill effects, which was good. But I just couldn't eat it. If we do go back, I will definitely steer clear of the ravioli. The service was a tad slow. I had my appetizer before I had my wine, and the dinner itself took a solid 30 minutes. I'm not sure if it's a place I'll return to anytime soon. More...

DO NOT EAT HEREHad my wifes birthday party in the back room. We had a party of 25 and it was planned/reserved three weeks early. Not only did we get our food 2 HOURS AFTER WE ORDERED... We had one server for our 25 people and also another table of 10 people. We had multiple people in our party need something and asked another server for help because our server was not available. Every Time another server was asked they told us to find our server. The manager was no where to be found after asking for the manager multiple times. Not until the end did the manager come out.To top it all off they tried to charge our party for our 25 and the table of 10 that was not part of our group. Then they charged us 20% gratuity for the worst service in the industry. Now we know they cannot do simple math so check your bills closely!I hope the owner reads this and fires that manager because he will ruin that restaurant. More...

Laziness. It's not only what led me to Mazzi's tonight but what also ruined my meal. Despite the mediocre reviews for this place, the fact that it was .3 miles away from my Airbnb won me over. When I got home with my dinner, it did strike me a little odd that the rolls were randomly thrown in the bag. However, when I uncovered my meal, I quickly forgot about the rolls. My chicken parm was a hearty serving and I was already planning on eating the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. However, those plans quickly changed when I realized upon first bite that my chicken was undercooked. No, let me rephrase that. My chicken was raw. Not pink. Not pinkish tint. Meat counter raw. It seems that in giving me that hearty portion, they failed to cook it all the way. I contemplated eating the edges which seemed to be cooked, but needless to say, my appetite was ruined. More...

Our reservations were at 6:30. Dinner was served at 7:45. So much for the bad part.I ordered the Stromboli, which is variation of a calzone. It comes garnished with slices of tomato and a red sauce on the side. My first bite, tasted oddly like a chicken pot pie. Not what I was expecting. If you like chicken pot pies, which I do, you will like it. Otherwise, maybe not. However, when I added the red sauce it was instantly transformed into something far more interesting and tasty. Something about that sauce really punched my taste button. It made a good dish even better and really did transform it to another taste level, at least for me.I should note, the place was very tastefully decorated and comfortable and the service was very good. Wondering if there's been a change in ownership or management in the last year or so.  Our service tonight (Mother's Day) was quite slow.  It looked like the restaurant was only about half-full, yet it didn't seem to be properly staffed.  Our salads came before our appetizer and we waited a long time between courses.  Also, there seemed to be little to the salads - nothing but lettuce and maybe a slice or two of carrot.  The Marco calzone has always been my go-to, but I was stunned at the lack  of meat.  Maybe the order was wrong, but there didn't seem to be any sausange and only a bit of ham.  Mostly dough and cheese.  Admittedly, it's been awhile since I've eaten at Mazzi's, but it used to be top-notch both in service and in quality of food.  I also remember you could get a full dinner, including soup, salad and ice cream, for a reasonable price - 16-20 bucks.  But everything is ala carte now.  We had two drinks, a glass of wine, two salads and two entrees.  With tip it came to 86 bucks - about 30 dollars more than the last time we were there.  There are better Italian places in Eugene.  Too bad, because Mazzi's was always one of our favorites. There is absolutely NO reason to go to Olive Garden when for (almost) the same price you can get REAL authentic Italian right there at Mazzi's. I actually live VERY close to Mazzi's and pass it frequently and had never been. What a mistake. The service was great... very attentive. Every time I took a drink of my water the "water boy" was back to fill my glass. The waitress was very friendly and top notch. She earned her tip. The food was awesome. Meals don't come with soup or salad but it's well worth it. I got a side salad. (All dressings are homemade) The lettuce was delicious...unlike the crappy put together salad they serve you at Olive Garden. You get unlimited mini loaves of homemade bread (which is to die for). My boyfriend got salmon, mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. (I had a bite of each and it was to DIE for.)  I ordered Mazzi's ravoli with alfredo sauce. It was delicious. IMO, You get what you pay for.. if you think Olive Garden is good you better go try Mazzi's. It's one of a kind. Prices are comparable... although Mazzi's doesn't offer any specials like unlimited soup and salad. They don't need to offer specials to get customers... they are that good. More...

I used to come to this restaurant when I was a kid. It was always pleasant and the food was good. This time not so much. We waited well over an hour to get our food and we were one of the first ones in at 5pm on a Sunday. The cocktail I had was good, not worth $8 though. When I was a kid the food was great here. Now it's mediocre. The fettuccini was extremely salty and the chicken was dry. I didn't make a fuss about it because I didn't want to be a jerk. Ughhhhh, so I know that Mazzi's has been around forever, and ever...and I do like their food for the most part....I'm just on a roll of mediocre service and sub-par food. I don't know why. Came to Mazzi's to take advantage of the 30% donation to NAACP in honor of MLK Day, and rolled in with 7 people..well two were half sized. The place was packed, which was a good sign that Mazzi's was doing well and that they are still relevant. Well....the food took more than 45 minutes to not only order, but to come out. So the ordering process was to wait, then flag down our server who looked like he was spread too thin (serving many tables at once) to have him sweetly tell us to hang on, to ordering in two parts like season one and season two of the Game of Thrones. Once ordered, the food took nearly 30 minutes to come out, so thank god for the rolls. I ordered the Capellini Costa Zurra. The flavor of the tomato herb sauce was lovely, nicely balanced and very light and spring-like, the pasta was cooked nicely, tender and chewy, but the seafood was rubbery and chewy(seafood being scallops, shrimp and crab). So what I'm thinking happened is, since the night was busy, the food was cooked to order and then held, the seafood sat hot and cooked over to the rubbery consistency that I finally received.Our bill came and one member of our party had left and already paid...the dishes became mixed up on the bills and we had to point that out to our server who immediately took the bill back and fixed the errors that were made. So, I have to give our server props, it was a crazy busy Monday night and he handled everything pretty well. I think maybe putting more servers out on the floor might help those busy nights so that servers aren't spread so thin. More...

If I could give less than one star I would.  We ordered a pizza to go with pepperoni and sausage and it tasted worse than a Tony's frozen pizza.   The crust was burnt and the cheese was as well.  For an establishment that considers itself a fine Italian restaurant I would expect a much higher standard.  I would certainly not recommend this place to a friend. The food  was average,  the service was poor.   My daughter ordered lasagna and I ordered calzone.  The party I was a part of was big,  18 people,  so I'll give the kitchen a little break.  However,  90 minutes to get our food seems long,  we had no appetizers.  They forgot my drink twice and once I got it,  never refilled it even though I asked.   I think what was really difficult to forgive is my calzone was burnt,  badly,  I didn't eat it.  I left it to show the waiter to show him.  The Buser came and took the plate.  I told him to be sure to show the waiter,  he didn't.  I know this because when the waiter returned I asked him what he would do about it.  He didn't know.   He said he would "take care of me."  However,  when I got the bill it was not adjusted.  I asked if he would make an adjustment for the burned food.  He said he would,  when he came back he just said  "sorry,  I can't do anything." After two hours and twenty minutes my party was just done.  I was so excited to eat here and now, I'm just disappointed.  I expected such a good meal.   As a side note,  not only was the calzone burnt,  the vegetables were raw (the mushrooms had a crunch).Lastly,  when we asked to have the bill split the waiter said it would take an hour to split it and that he wanted us to figure out who had what and pay for it.  Kinda awkward. Well, maybe it was because they had not anticipated such a crowd a couple days before Christmas. Maybe they did not notice all the reservations. Maybe being in business for about 40 years does not mean they've figured out staffing. Or maybe our waiter just wasn't that good. Probably the latter. Which explains why we had to get extra water ourselves.   Some of the food was really pretty good. However, the salmon special was singed (my daughter described it as burnt but I'm being nice). What had probably started out as a beautiful hunk of salmon, full of potential, ended up on her plate as hunk of charred fish.   I ordered the cioppino. I love cioppino, and have eaten it many times--but never here. It is described on the menu as "shrimp, scallops, clams and fresh fish in a hearty tomato broth served with a green salad and lots of bread. This is a meal!" The plate arrived, looking very pretty with eight clams (I think) arranged around the perimeter, partially submerged in the tomato sauce/broth. I spotted sever small bay scallops and a handful of shrimp. It was ok. The sauce was a bit on the broth side of things. The shrimp were slightly tough. The scallops were small, but hey, that's the way of seafood any more. I asked about the bread ("lots of bread") and was told that the bread referred to the bread basket on the table -- no different bread for this course.   Oh.   What ruined it was that there was NO FISH. What?!?  Forget it. Deal over. Cioppino without fish? Take it off the menu if you don't have fish. More...

I hadn't been here in ages and was happy to see that not much had changed but the place has been kept up nicely and updated slightly. Nostalgia had me bring my daughter here for a daddy daughter date. She lit up when she got her icecream after her very reasonably priced kids pizza(I helped her eat) my dinner was pretty standard dripping in sauce Italian that tasted good and was filling but could be picked apart taste wise. I wasted $18.50 at Mazzi's tonight.  Upon the recommendation and urging of a friend, I splurged and treated myself to Mazzi's  chicken parmesan.  The chicken was tough, the mozzarella cheese on it was burned.  The scant portion of spaghetti was fairly tasteless; the spaghetti I make at home is so much better.  There was a small amount of julienned vegetables which were overcooked and limp.  Since my order was to go, I had to obtain it from the bartender who was surly, at best.  I was very disappointed.  I have no idea why this restaurant has a good reputation.  I want my money back. This is a solid stand by for the hubby and I on date night. Keep in mind this is comfort Italian food. Think homemade pasta and scratch made sauces. I rarely explore the specials menu because when we come here I'm usually in the mood for a heaping plate of pasta smothered in yums and that is what is delivered. I don't think the prices are exorbitant at all and you can expect to pay as much or more at Olive Garden for pasty pasta shaped goo. I love that they have opened a full bar. Went with a big group that contained both adults and kids, and it wasn't terrible.  I liked the look of the bar area and they had a big open fireplace in the middle.  It would actually be a good place to go on a date night -- not so much for large groups.  The service was adequate, but the food wasn't terribly exciting.  I would certainly try it again, but I would avoid doing so with a large group and I'd hope to find a gem on the menu that was tasty. I got the deluxe pizza to go. It was extremely greasy. I assume this is because they use old style mozzarella cheese. The taste was good. The crust was good the ingredients were good. Just a little too greasy for my taste. By greasy I mean, if you take a paper towel and dab the top of the pizza lightly, the paper towel is soaked with oil. It's nice that there's a family style Italian restaurant in South Eugene, so people local to this area don't need to go downtown for it if they don't want to. The service was good, the atmosphere is fine, we didn't need to wait. However, the meal was just, meh. For an appetizer we got what was basically lox spread on a baguette. It sounded really fancy and nice (to match its pretty steep price) on the menu, but when it arrived I thought, "I could have gotten this at Safeway..." No picture of it, sorry. I ordered the salmon ravioli, a special that night. I'm no chef Ramsey, but even I could tell that the salmon had just been warmed up. Nothing fresh about it. The sauce was pretty good, but I've had this dish other places where it was truly great- fresh and delicious. My partner in crime ordered the manicotti. My mom makes a good manicotti so I was excited to taste it. When it came, it looked delicious! But there was so much cheese that is was nearly impossible to eat. Just heaps of melted cheese. Overall, I think Yelp sums up the two star experience best: I've had better. ALL that being said, I have several friends and family who've really enjoyed themselves and their meals at this location. We come here quite a bit when there is a Groupon, but before that we came a few times as well so I can say that the service hasn't changed too much since they started that stuff. In general, the service is not bad - at least from what I have experienced but I can say that I'm a pretty easy/friendly customer so I tend to have good service. The food is about the same quality as you would get at Ambrosia, and just like at Ambrosia I would tend to steer towards the specials instead of the everyday menu. That's not to say that the regular menu isn't good, just that they put a little more thought into their specials. Be warned: they run out of specials occasionally, which I don't have a problem with because it most likely means they have a limited quantity and thus it is more probable that it's fresh and of good quality. I've never had any complaints about the food I've received here, and they have never given me any trouble about the Groupon, although you can't use it on weekends so take note. Right now it's my go-to place for consistent Italian in the south hills. More...

All I can say is WOW! So glad to find such a gem in Eugene. First off the fresh rolls were delicious. The calamari was seasoned and fried perfectly and was wonderful. My boyfriends salad looked and tasted great. We had a few italian sodas and they were yummy as well. I had the chicken picatta which came with roasted veggies and fettuccine alfredo. It was just the best, I couldnt stop eating it. The side of pasta which I didnt even care about too much turned out to be one of my favorite parts as well. Some of the best fettucinne alfredo I have ever had. Boyfriend had the cannelloni and loved it. Service became a little slow as they got more busy and we didnt mind waiting that much. But then without us even asking our server comped our drinks and gave us a free cheesecake to go because of the wait!Can you say amazing customer service? We had a business dinner there last night and had the slowest service ever. It was a bummer because we had promised some out of town business folks that it was the best place to go. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. That is where the speedy service came to a halt.  They took our drink orders and then did not get our drinks for well over 10 - 15 minutes. I love this place! My wife grew up in Eugene and this restaurant has been a family staple ever since. This visit was a little different. The family was a bit tired from the days activities so we decided a carpet picnic was in order. I ordered pizza and calzones to go and made sure they included some of those epic rolls! My family comes here every year, usually with a party of 15 or more, to celebrate my late sister's birthday. Every year we come back because the service and food is so excellent!Unfortunately, this was not the case last night. We made the reservation weeks ago, only to show up and see that instead of one large table altogether (like usual) they separated us between two tables. Why would we have a family dinner sitting apart from one another? I made a comment to our waitress, and she did fix this immediately.Our waitress was very friendly, and we received our soups and salads quite promptly. But when it came to ordering another beer from the bar, it took 15 minutes and an excuse that "the bartender was swamped". I do realize that the bar can get busy, but being I have worked at a bar before, I know it only takes 5 seconds to pour a beer. Poor excuse on the waitresses part.Our food came out, looking and smelling delicious. But when I went to eat it, it was lukewarm and the sauce was quite watery/runny. I asked a few other family members how they liked their dinners, and they said they weren't as impressed as they were in the past either.This is such a bummer for me! Whenever a coworker or friend asks where the best Italian restaurant is in town, I never hesitate to say 'Mazzi's'! My all-time favorite restaurant. Love the warm house-made rolls, the house-made salad dressings, the calzones and pizzas. We used to order takeout from here almost weekly. The owners and staff are wonderful. This is casual Italian dining at it's very best. Can get busy, especially on weekends and after football games, so plan ahead and be prepared to wait a little. Just visited again and the lasagna was perfect as always.  Normally my husband and I share our dishes, but not here; you touch my lasagna at your own risk (lol).  Rather than get something else, he now gets lasagna as well.  The rolls are scrumptious, too.The main thing I wanted to comment on for this visit, however, was the management.  I had a gift certificate that had just expired (my fault for not paying attention), and rather than denying me it's use - which they had every right to do - they very cheerfully said, "No problem!" and accepted it.Bravo Mazzi's!  Keep up the good work.  We'll see you next time! IF YOU CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT...This addendum prefaces the review below, which has been REMOVED TWICE !!?I had assumed, perhaps in error, to paraphrase, that  "...you could handle the truth."  (That means you Frank, the owner).  So, again, to all and sundry, please take a moment to put this together with the many other derogatory comments on this place, PLUS the many promises by ownership to (make it all better).Does anyone else notice a pattern here?SO:Despite mixed reviews, my wife and I decided to give the place a try.  As it turned out everybody's review was either right or wrong about everything.The female waitperson was great,  she did everything right by us.The calamari can only be described as blasé, but not in a good way.My entree Saltimbocca alla Romana was quite alright, the veggi presentation superb.  The "cutlet" provenance was "free range veal".   I assume that means a calf that was allowed to walk around the corral, the flesh seemed to have a bit more texture than "conventional veal."This is where the experience starts to decline.  I should begin by mentioning that the online menu dinner price for my plate is $18.95, the hard copy menu exhibits $21.00.  My better half ordered what we were later informed was a new menu item, Bistecca/something!!  It was an expensive experiment (the priciest entree on the menu) that she wishes she had not participated in.  I noted that (she of typically robust appetite) was dawdling over her meal.  She allowed me a taste.  I was shocked at what I can only describe as a concoction that tasted absolutely FLAT.  That was until I tryed some unidentifiable vegetable which tasted to me very similar to the smell of a gym locker.OK, so now the fun began.  I discreetly mentioned our dissatisfaction to our waitperson, who handled the situation with finesse, and to our satisfaction.  She offered an alternative entree which was declined, inasmuch as the meal had progressed to a point that acceptance would have caused an unacceptable delay.  The wait person expedited by removing the $26.00 charge from the tab, and offering a comp dessert to my wife. So, I ordered dessert and coffee too.Now I wouldn't bother to write this if the "Manager"/Owner had not become involved.  Somehow, by doing the right thing, our waitperson had violated some "protocol", and this somewhat hairless person, whose name begins with the letter "M", took our server to the woodshed, in plain view but out of hearing and dressed her down, not once, but several times, dogging her about as she attempted to keep up with her work load.  The "M" person then approached our table, and uninvited, squatted next to us, peered up at my wife and attempted to imply that somehow this kitchen/entree disaster (now spreading to the dining area) was somehow her doing.  Needless to say, I dismissed him in no uncertain terms.We left a 15% tip - $10.00 cash directly to the server (she was visibly upset by the mistreatment, and we are not confident that "M" will not deduct the cost of the return entree from her).A bit of constructive criticism to "M", do try to discover a few of the ins and outs of the hospitality business (We and everyone noticed this misbehavior, we felt it was uncomfortably indirected towards us).  Please post here when you are up to speed.  When I note your post, we will return. I have gone to mazzi's a few times now. The two most recent times were using the groupon and after going I know why they are continuously offering a groupon special, the food sucks and the service is just okay. The first time I got the special which was a lobster pasta that was supposed to have crab as well. I got zero crab on mine and the flavor was not that great ( I could have made my own at home for half the price)My dad who ordered it before me but was with a different group of people the same night and got tons of crab on his. When I got home with my left overs and he ate some he was amazed at the difference in flavor. He said his was awesome while mine was not so great. The other thing that bothers me is that while you order the waitress will ask "do you want soup or salad?"  when I hear this I assume it means it comes with the meal like most Italian restaurants but no they charge you around 4 bucks for a salad and I was unaware until the bill came.      The most recent time I came I decided to go simple and get the fettuccine with clam sauce, my mom ordered it as well. The noodles were homemade but nothing really great about them (honestly olive garden would have been better). They must have taken to heart the other reviews on here saying how bland the food was because let me tell you that was the saltiest pasta I have ever had. There was no other flavor besides salt.  When our waitress came by to see how the food was we mentioned the crazy amount of salt she said oh that's odd, I'm sorry. No offer to take it back or get us something else. We honestly had maybe 4 bites each and took it to go and it went right in the trash. The rolls are good but come on people pre-wrapped cold butter?! We got the calamari as well which was okay, calamari is my favorite appetizer so I get it whenever I see it on a menu. The dipping sauce was good but the calamari breading really had no flavor. Like others I see, I'm reluctant to write this review, but it is, what it is.  The last time I was in Mazzi's was in the 1970s or 1980s.  I happen to be in Eugene and was surprised to see it still there, so I tried it...I had great memories of their salad's, pizza and main Italian courses.  They are but memories, at least what I experienced.  I won't be returning.Entering Mazzi's, it does remind me of the 1970s... the staff did everything mechanically correct, but that's all.  I was never asked how anything tasted, if there was anything I needed, nor did I receive any suggestions.  They just weren't helpful or seemed to care...they went thru the motions.In my party I ordered the chicken picata.  It was bland, tasteless, I strained to see more than 4 or 5 capers.  It came with some buttered noodles and a vege mixture.  Did I mention it was bland and tasteless?I also ordered the caesar salad.  It bears no memory to the great salads I had there in the past.  It was totally forgettable, wish I had never ordered it.  The bread also did not match my memories...I felt no desire to grab a second piece...Without drinks, my check for the 5 in my party came to $110... I wish that $110 was still in my bank account.I don't know how that Mazzi's has survived this long, dare I say, it's nearing the end of its existence.Such a disappointment.  From what I hear, Eugene needs a decent Italian place.Rest in peace. The food was the only good part of my husband and I's experience at Mazzi's. Our waiter basically ignored us the whole hour and a half we were there. It was early on a Monday evening so there was no crowd and they had plenty of staff, just no one to pay attention to us! But the WORST part of our experience was where we were seated, along the wall that the patio is attached to. Every single waiter who opened the door to the patio let the door slam itself shut, shaking the wall and our table. Absolutely ridiculous, fortunately their wait staff is so terrible that they didn't actually go outside that often to check on the tables out there. To be fair, the reason it took them an hour and a half for our food to reach us was probably the lasagna my husband ordered. This is our second time at Mazzi's. Our first time was with our doctor friend who bought a groupon. The food was great, but she wasn't able to use the groupon because they don't work on Fridays.She moved to another state recently and gave us the printed groupon. We were so excited because the food was good and we wanted to go back.We got there this evening and told our host that we have a groupon to use. She took us our table and said the groupon was OK. The food was great! We ordered calamari, glasses of wine, pizza and pasta and even tiramisu for desert.That would have been a perfect evening. My partner even said that the pizza is the best he's had in Eugene.We asked for the check and handed the groupon to the server. She came back to us and said that it's only good for "Party of four". There was nothing printed on the paper about that. She said that if you used a COLORED printer, then it would print out.She was actually polite and offered to call the manager, which we requested. The manager, Yasmin, came to us and said that the groupon is only good for party of four and she said the same thing, "If we had printed in color, we would be able to read the other conditions."We didn't give much of a fight and was about to pay but requested to voice to the manager our discontent. We were very diplomatic. We said that we loved the food and I'm sure she'd love for other people to enjoy their food, but that we just felt awful about the groupon not being honored. We just wanted her to know.She said "Well, if you're going to threaten me that way, then let me get that groupon from you. It's not my fault if you did not read the conditions printed in the email before you printed it" She said that in a very condescending tone which made all the blood rush to my head. I said, "well, as you know, there is nothing printed on that paper about having four people to be able to use it, and that was actually a gift to us by a friend, so we didn't have the email you are referring to.""Wow, that's a very good excuse," she said. I said, "Well, that's the truth and that is not an excuse." She tore the groupon in half in front of us and walked inside to scan it.My heart was pounding so hard, that I wanted to slap her. How dare she accuse us of lying? Very inappropriate and uncalled for.After paying and giving appropriate tips, we walked out. Really bothered, we approached her again and asked if she was the owner. She said no and we asked for it. Frank Ernandez. I told her that her customer orientation is all wrong and that we would let the owner know how she treated us that night, even accusing us of lying.She said "Be my guest, and thanks for coming!" with a smug look on her face.As for us, we initially came here excited to have great food, use our groupon, and come back in the future for more, BUT AFTER TONIGHT, I'm just happy that we got to use the groupon, as there won't be a next time.I certainly hope the owner is reading this as his current manager, Yasmin, has crossed all the lines of customer service and has no business being a manager. Mazzi's is an appealing old style family italian restaurant.  The few times we've ventured down to the south Eugene eatery, it has always been crowded.  This brings me to my first complaint which is the long wait getting seated; not their fault of course, but  I hoped for a cold drink on a hot summers night but there were no offers of a beverage to the waiting guests.  We were eventually seated outside and were quickly helped by friendly staff.  My appetizer salad was on the small side (for the $7 price) which was made up for by the tasty (and filling) bread.  Unfortunately the fusilli in my vegetarian pasta were overcooked (mushy) and the grilled summer squash & zucchini a little under cooked (cool and crunchy).  My wife's pizza was the real reason for the two star rating. I like my pizza, traditional or otherwise, but the sauce was Chef Boyardee-ish, the dough and cheese undercooked and the pepperoni didn't have any zest or flavor.  I tried to cover up the pizza's shortcomings with a heavy coat of parmesan cheese, but the cheese inside the shaker was in one pick lump and wouldn't come out.  To top of the dining experience, Mazzi's refused to honor my Groupon and the manager actually tried to argue with me even when I pointed out the fine print on the voucher didn't make mention of how many entrees needed to be ordered.  Two thumb's down for Mazzi's :( More...

I have been a longtime fan of Mazzi's for as long as I can remember. Anytime I have a Birthday, Anniversary, Mother's Day, or even date night, everyone knows I want to head to Mazzi's. The food is unbelievable. I don't think I have EVER had anything that wasn't up to my expectations. One of my favorites is the lasagna. Just thinking of it makes my heart flutter and tummy rumble! They have the most amazing rolls that are to die for. I'm always in carb heaven. You have the choice of adding a soup and salad and ice cream for an additional charge of about $8.00 and my husband and I always just get one meal "a la carte" and add one "full dinner" to our meal and share the soup and salad and ice cream. It is certainly plenty! :-) Another favorite is the Calzone or Mazzi's Pizza. Prepare for dinner to last quite a long time. Service can be quite slow and lately the servers haven't been as friendly as in the past. All in all though, I go for the food and as a prior server, I give lenientcy towards servers where others may not because I tend to recognize when things are happening behind the scenes. If that bothers you, you may want to go earlier in the evening when they are slower and avoid the weekend when there is a wait and they have more tables to serve at once. Even on a slower evening, dinner can take 1 1/2 - 2 hours on average. Definitely a relaxing atmosphere! All in all this is my favorite restaurant in Eugene and I am only giving it 4 stars due to the change in staffing, not food, which is amazing.***As a bonus, check out Groupon for wonderful discounts! I hate to write this review, because Mazzi's is an old time Eugene favorite of mine.  I had not been there in a long time.  We decided to take Mike's parents there for a late Father's Day celebration.  Okay, on a positive note, the waitress was cute and friendly and accommodating....even flirting with Mike's 86 year old dad, which his dad loved, haha!!!  Mike's lasagna was actually probably a 4 on a scale of 5.  The bread, which was always a highlight, was a bit stale.  The cannelloni, which was always my favorite, was awful!  It is supposed to have Italian sausage in it.  I don't know what the meat was, but it had NO flavor.  The sauce had no flavor.  The entire dish had no flavor. I  failed to detect any cheese or anything else in the dish. Mike's mom ordered spaghetti and she made no comment.  It looked quite ordinary.But here is the clincher.  The waitress thought it was Bob's (Mike's dad) birthday so she brought him a free dessert with a candle.  The dessert was a compote of ........whipping cream!  Yes!  Just whipping cream!  That is all!  And I believe it was just from a can at that.  hahahahahaha!  Really?  I mean, it was a nice gesture, but couldn't they have afforded just a small brownie or a cookie?  I won't be going back any time soon!PS...The lasagna was only 25 cents cheaper at Mazzi's than Beppi's... I have lived in Eugene for 5 years, and this is the first time I've eaten at Mazzi's.  I've had family and friends tell me to stay away, but somehow my daughter and I found ourselves there one night.  Maybe it's because all of the "Ramsey's Nightmare Kitchen" episodes we've been watching, or the fact that I should have listened to what people told me, but I thought I should write this review.The most annoying part of our meal was the table we were seated at.  If you even applied the lightest pressure, the table would wobble as if it were about to fall over.  At first it was kind of funny, but by the time we left it was really bugging me.  It felt so unstable I wasn't sure if it would support the weight of our salad.As soon as we declined drinks, our waitress was less than pleasant to us the entire meal.  I thought that she was just having a bad day, but after observing her with other tables it seemed that she saved her disdain just for us.  We decided to split a salad and it was a good thing I didn't have to pay for two.  About 1/4 of the greens were wilted and brown.  What a way to start the meal...  I ordered the special ravioli and my daughter ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo.  I have to admit that my dinner was very good.  I liked the dish and thought it was well made.  The fettuccine however tasted like it had been sauteed in the same pan as a pound of clams.  When I asked our ever so friendly (NOT)  waitress about this, she insisted that there was no seafood in the dish and went on to say the chefs always use clean pans for every dish.  I have to say that I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone, and it wouldn't be a bad thing if Chef Ramsey paid them a visit. We came here to carb-load our track team the night before OSAAs. I wasn't familiar with the place, but figured any Italian restaurant not named Olive Garden would suffice. And considering how crowded we would've expected Olive Garden would be, any other option looked that much more palatable.I like that Mazzi's is kind of off the beaten path -- it's right by the Amazon Parkway trails. I'm pretty sure I've actually run past Mazzi's when I've run the Eugene Marathon. It's not downtown; it's not near the Valley River Center -- so you know that's going to keep all of the out-of-towners away for the most part. We were seated promptly, but our large group also had reservations. Even with it being fairly early on a weeknight, it was pretty crowded.  I had the pesto ravioli. I enjoyed it! The dinner rolls were quite delicious as well. I also most definitely appreciated the option to do a smaller portion, considering how utterly massive the normal portions are. Having just eaten here once, I obviously can't speak to the rest of the dishes, however. If and when I run Eugene again, I'm likely to come back here to carb-load. Sure beats having to deal with the mess at Olive Garden. More...

I had a lot of promise going into my first experience at Mazzi's, but they managed to squander every chance they had to be great.Service: The waiter knew absolutely nothing about the selection of wines and completely ignored my questions pertaining to a few. Not once did he check up on our table during our main course, conveniently showing up as we finished.Food: I was in disbelief on how a chef could mess up pasta. For an $17 I would expect fresh pasta, though store bought seems to be a common trend for this faux upscale restaurant. The sauce was practically water and had such a god awful smell I couldn't get through two bites; one more reason I was upset the waiter said nothing to us during our meal.Overall I would have to say I was surprised how bad everything was and I would not recommend anyone to go there unless they want to pay high prices for cafeteria food. Arrive right at 5 if you do not want to wait! I arrived at 530 on a Tuesday thinking I would be seated right away, was I wrong! the waiter told us it would be a 25 minute wait, but we really ended up waiting 50 minutes.After being seated and knowing our order during our 50 minute wait it still took another 15.The scappino parm was good until I started to cut it in pieces and all of the breading fell off, sad. The spaghetti noodles were cooked perfectly but the sauce was average. 18.50$My wife ordered the scaloppini, it was pretty good but nothing to rave over. 15.50$After we were done I had to wait 15 minutes looking for my server, who knows where she went. I really wanted to leave but was stuck at my table staring around awkwardly with my napkin on the table.All in all, the food tasted decent, but the wait was over the top and the prices were to high for what we got. I remember going to Mazzi's as I was growing up from the time they opened their doors. My parents used to let me bring a friend out for dinner anywhere I wanted to go with them on my birthday. I always picked Mazzi's. I grow up had my own family and became on empty nester. I now have my own grandchildren and they have their own traditions. But this year on my birthday my husband and I took my aging parents to Mazzi's for my birthday one more time! Forty years later it seemed still as good as always. We all had the Marco Special Calazone"s and it was great! They even have the best ice cream like they did 40 years ago. mine had a lit candle in it and they sang Happy Birthday. I don't know how many birthdays I have left with my folks, but it was sure nice for us to get to go there for my birthday for another year. Thanks Mazzi's ! More...

Mazzis....I really wanted to enjoy your food.  However, Noli, Turtles and myself...can all make much better fettucini alfredo than you're able to.  Bummer!We came here to have dinner after work last week.  There was a 20 minute wait just to get in here, which we were cool with.  Considering we were only a party of 2, they had us seated within 10 minutes. While waiting, we were able to sit at the bar and enjoy a few drinks.  I had a Boneyard IPA, the wife went with a spicy cocktail (hot lips?) that wasn't too shabby.When we were seated, they put us right next to the fire place at a table for two.  I thought the layout of the place was just fine, a little crowded, but enough space to not have to listen to what the table next to you is talking about.Our waitress was fantastic!  Very kind and polite...attentive, and on top of her game. I would say the service between our waitress and the bartender is what salvaged the 3rd star.  If service wasn't what it was...this would be a 1 star review.If you serve a bland alfredo sauce...you're gonna strike out on that dish.  Nobody orders Fettucini Alfredo with the hopes of mediocre sauce and thin, weak, over cooked noodles.  They claim to make their own pastas...which is great and all.  But if the customer can't tell there's anything special about it...I wouldn't incorporate that into your bragging rights.  I could tell parmesan was used in the alfredo, but you can't just stop there.  You need some garlic, parmesan, asiago and romano.  Those 4 flavors make a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE when it comes to a great alfredo.Would I try this place out again?  Yes....I would....simply to give them another chance.  However I wouldn't be going for a pasta dish, more than likely a calzone or something else amongst those lines. Cioppino!It means "the most perfect soup." No, not really. I made that up. In my world, it's the perfect soup because it's a blend of seafood in a broth of tomato and wine. And it came from my hometown of good ol' San Francisco.The perfect man (my boyfriend) and I had an impromptu Monday dinner date night thanks to Groupon. I've been told to visit this Italian restaurant by many folks with awesome experiences. It's a bit on the pricey side and I don't really dig deep in my pockets unless it's a fancy occasion, but the institution does come with class and for a great deal from Groupon, I couldn't miss out.  As expected, we started with a delightful basket of warm bread. I savored on my one and only for the entire meal because something so good has to last (plus it takes a calorie budget to look as awesome as I do, and I only have so much room in my stomach).  My boyfriend devoured his special chicken piccata with pesto fettuccine with pleasure. And I had my perfect soup...a huge bowl generously filled with clams, shrimp, scallops and fish swimming in a sea of sweet tomato-wine goodness.  Ooooohhhhhh! More...

I've lived in Eugene a good majority of my life. This used to be one of my families staple restaurants. I unfortunately haven't been able to go there for a good 5 to 8 years, and it has changed so much in that time (which I guess is expected), and not in a good way. Let me lay out a scene: My girlfriend, my daughter, and myself walk into the restaurant. We get warmly greeted by a blonde lady, who finds us a table quickly. I honestly wish she was our server. Once we sit down, we get this mono-toned guy as our server, who obviously doesn't want to be there. Throughout our entire meal, we can't get his attention. I sat without a fork for a good 7 minutes. Our food came out cold. And it was just a bad experience. My girlfriend and I both don't like to send food back, so we just sucked it up. I think the part that was most maddening about this entire situation was that we looked around at all of the other servers and they seemed to be happy and cheerful just like the girl who sat us at our table. Why did we get stuck with the grumpy jerk? I will admit it could have been a bad night for the guy, but when you work in customer service, you have to suck it up. Especially when I am spending 20+ dollars  a plate. I would give them a second chance though, because of the rest of the staff. We will see if and when that ever happens. More...

Went to Mazzi's tonight after hearing good things and was very disappointed. First of all, the soup and salad do not come with the meal and are over priced at around $4 each. The minestrone was basically broth with a few vegetables. The pasta was mediocre, with a thin, flavorless alfredo sauce and the tiramisu was shockingly bad. It was basically a grainy whipped cream filled bowl with one small layer of chocolate shavings and what I assume was lady fingers. On the plus side, our waitress was nice, but not nice enough to make up for the lackluster entrees and the truely horrible excuse for tiramisu. We will not be back. More...

Why is this rating so low!?  Mazzi's is an institution!  The facts are these:We waited 45 minutes for a table of five on a Wednesday evening.  No one was able to give us a time estimate.  We only stayed because our friend had a Groupon.Had to make angry eyes at the bartender for about 3 minutes before he would pay us any attention and pour us a couple of glasses of wine for our wait.I got a simple pasta dish and the spaghetti was overdone.  It had roughly the consistency of Top Ramen.There was a table of cackling post-sorority looking young ladies behind us who didn't know how to behave at a place that charges approx $20 a plate.The dish a friend wanted was not available and we weren't told until she had already ordered it.  A heads up about menu-items not available would have been kind.All of our dishes were brought out at about the same time except for one dish that took about another 7ish minutes which was kind of awkward for all of us.Our server was really sweet, though.  I think her name was Nicole.  She was very well-meaning, polite, and attentive.All-in all I was completely unimpressed and will not be back. Was in desperate need of a Mazzi's fix so went yesterday for dinner.  We got there shortly after 5;00pm and there was already a wait and small line.  Waited about 15 minutes for a table for three then viola'!  The table we got was the one right in front of the fireplace in the back!  Worth the wait as both my daughter and wife loved it.  I had the full meal Calzone which comes with Minestrone, Salad and Ice Cream.  First, the Salad was topped with bleu cheese which appeared homemade and was great.  The greens were fresh.  The Minestrone is some of the best in my book and again, fresh and well prepared.  The Calzone was a touch overcooked on the ends but still very good.  One small piece was all that was left as it was overcooked and a bit hard.  The Spumoni is, again, in my book, some of the best one will get and I don't know if they make their own or buy it. (I have looked in vain trying, but failing).  My wife had the Chick Toscano (which is what I usually have), and I had a taste and it was as good as ever- Yum!  My daughter had the Seafood Fettuccine and again, Yum!  The shrimp actually tasted like shrimp!  Most places it tastes like some rubber matter, but not here and not with this dish.  To drink I had Iced Tea and it tasted fresh-brewed and very strong-  The way it should be.  We intended to use a Groupon that we bought but had so much to "Doggy Bag" back to our youngest daughter it would not qualify.  This place is still in my opinion a solid 4.5 stars leaning towards a 5 star and I fail to understand why there are some poor ratings.  As for the service, it was again, first cabin and our server, Ruti (?), knew her business and was always there at the right time and performed most professionally.  Now the big question:  Will we be back?  Well, I bought three Groupons so that's a given.  If I did not buy the Groupons it would not make a difference as this place puts forth a great effort with its ambiance, food and service.  Oh, yeah! lets start with the appetizer, we had calamari. The calamari was one big huge mass of squid and batter, you literally couldn't just grab one little piece it was just a ball of batter and squid. Main courses were both pasta served at room temp with a ketchup like sauce. Last week we decided to have dinner at Mazzi's, a 31 mile round trip drive.  I noticed on their web site that they have outdoor seating and called to make sure we could bring our small dog.  I called at 3:30 pm and spoke to a young girl. I asked if we could have our dog with us on their patio and she assured me it was ok.   We drove to the restaurant, only to be told that "dogs were not welcome" at their restaurant.  We explained that we called and inquired.  Sadly, the lady at the desk not only didn't seem to care, she didn't offer any apology either.  Typical case of untrained, unskilled employees.I believe that Mazzi's and all public businesses have a right to conduct their business as they wish.  I have no problem with that.  I do have a problem with employees giving out bogus information.  In addition, I tried several times to get our friends to join us for dinner and they said the food and service was so bad the last time they were there, they vowed to never return.  I get it now. My family went to Mazzi's last Saturday for a birthday dinner.  The restaurant was too loud to have any meaningful conversation and we were seated up against a round fire pit with a large vent hood that blocked my Dad from half of the table.  There were four of us dining and we started with a large caesar salad to share.  Then we waited..and waited...and watched parties who came in after us finish their meal while we waited...and waited.  The waitress came by to bad-mouth the kitchen about not having our order done, which I found in poor taste.  Over an hour of waiting.  For 3 pasta with meat sauce dishes and a halibut dinner.  My spaghetti barely had enough sauce to cover half the noodles.  Since it was a birthday dinner we wanted to order dessert.  Of course, we were informed they were out of their "famous cheesecake" at 7:45 on a Saturday night (mind you we started at 6:30).  We ordered a tiramisu and a special lemon cake with a merinque frosting.  A couple minutes later the waitress returned to tell us they were also out of tiramisu.  Nice.  We all shared my piece of cake and all agreed it wasn't worth it.  It had a funky texture like it was gluten-free or vegan or something, although we weren't told that it was.Overall, a very disappointing birthday dinner.  Will have to wait until next year to try to get it right...somewhere else. I have to say, to start with, that although we found the service a trifle slow, our server, the bus-person, and the manager that we interacted with were all fabulous.I also need to let you know that the stuffed mushrooms that we had were some of the best I have =ever= eaten.  Top drawer, bar none.But...  We also ordered vegetarian lasagna...and a small portion of their cheese/spinach ravioli in a pesto sauce.The first time the ravioli arrived, it was almost stone cold...to the degree that you could see the raviolis hadn't been boiled enough to melt the cheese.  When they brought the ravioli back the second time, I could have sworn they'd put it into the microwave...but they also might have boiled it in too little water...or left it under the heatlamp a trifle over-long.  The edges of the ravioli were that hard/chewy consistency that says OVERdone with pasta.  The pesto was lovely - nice and creamy, and though I like more garlic in mine, it was good.The vegetarian ravioli was...ordinary.  I felt as if it was comparable to Chef Boyardee...which isn't a compliment when referring to a $20 pasta entree, I'm afraid.Both of us thought that the other had gotten the better meal.(I'm going to have to agree with Mike G's review from March of this year.) I just went to Mazzi's tonight and was severely disappointed.  The restaurant was beautifully lit and the staff were attentive but the food was bland and tasteless.I ordered a seafood dish that I could pretty much equate to a $20 bowl of ramen with a few chunks of bland tasteless seafood.   I tried my girlfriends dish and it was equally as bland. we waited 45 minutes for bland food that wasn't worth it.  High five to the staff they were very attentive and the place looks nice, but without food that has flavor I won't be going again.  Sorry. Last night, my boyfriend and I decided last minute to eat at Mazzy's Italian restaurant. The night before, the parking lot had been quite full and we weren't sure what the crowds would be like on a Tuesday night. We drove up and the tiny parking lot was nearly empty. Good sign for a romantic dinner setting. The windowless wooden door leading into the restaurant made me feel like I was walking into someone's home and the smell of fresh baked bread and tomato sauce was inviting. We were given a rectangular table to sit at next to the window. I ordered an Italian Pinot Grigio and he ordered a double IPA (extra hop flavor for those that are fans) The setting was pleasant and clean. The tangled brush wrapped around the water statue out front was calming. The waitress was fantastic, friendly, conversational, and accurate. She even brought us a vase of flowers that had been missing from the table. The rolls were warm and baked fresh and even as leftovers the next day, I had difficulty setting them down to eat other things on the plate. Stuffed mushrooms covered in cheese that dripped long oozing strands when scooped from the bowl. Steamed clams in garlic and spices. Delicious (but not as good as others I have tried).  Caesar salad for dinner because I wanted to make sure I had room for dessert. The lettuce had a little too much dressing on it but the freshly grated parmesan was a nice touch. The other side of the table had a white clam sauce linguini and red mushroom sauce cheese ravioli combo. Both were tasty. The white sauce was much lighter than most I have had and the ravioli was perfectly stuffed. The mushroom sauce however, tasted like something that came out of a can. Leftovers securely packaged with extra rolls, we were ready to try dessert. As the other half had never had a creme broule before, we ordered that. Slightly disappointing in that the center hadn't been torched long enough and the sugar hadn't hardened to brittle perfection. It tasted fine though. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the meal and I will be coming again soon. More...

I spoke with a manager to reserve the back room for a special event, several weeks in advanced and when we arrived they had a crowded table shoved up against the wall in the noisy area of the restaurant. When I asked the female hostess with dark brown curly hair about our reservations she pretty much said, "that's too bad do you want this table or not.' NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY! She was very snippy with me and in my opinion should have at least apologized! It put a huge damper on a special night we had been planning for quite some time. I was also told our party needed to bring cash for such a large party (12). So as awkward as it was I asked our family and friends to bring cash, however when the server came to collect she could have cared less how we paid. We now live in California and have always thought of this restaurant as a special treat when we come to Eugene. Not anymore! We will not be back! Eugene is booming with many other great restaurants and we will be sure to spend our money elsewhere. More...

Because of some poor planning on my part and some traffic along the way, i ended up in Eugene rather late and was limited on options and decided to just give this place a try.  decor was nice, the bread they started us on was delicious. I was informed this isn't the usual bread, they ran out of dinner rolls and this was the bread from next door. If this is the backup plan i was wondering how delicious is the dinner roll.  Then this is where it went downhill fast. the food we had was rather bad. i had the calzone which was like old store bought dough with meager filling inside. my friend's plate of pasta was bland. i don't think they seasoned the water that they cooked the pasta in. plus the alfredo sauce lacked any substance.  just  poor finish to a good start and for the price i paid, i should have just ate fast food. We bought a groupon for Mazzi's and thought we could try something new.  Somehow this just never works out for us.  When we got there we thought it was a good sign that the parking lot was full.  When we walked inside there were many open tables.  Where did we get seated - in a small little corner jammed in between two other tables, sitting at what appeared to be a broken table.  With all the empty tables in the restaurant, I didn't understand why they had to seat anyone in such a terrible corner.  Then we were told that on the extensive "specials" menu - there were only 4 that were available because they were changing the list tomorrow and, blah, blah, blah...If you don't have the specials - don't give out a "specials" menu!!!  Then we ordered - off the regular menu.  My husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs and I ordered fettuccine alfredo. When the food came the two meatballs on my husband's plate were literally black on one side.  My fettuccine was all clumped together and quite honestly tasted worse than alfredo sauce from a jar.  Thank goodness for the rolls or we would have left hungry!  When the waitress came to ask if we wanted boxes for our almost untouched plates, we both were quick to say no thank you!  So she took our plates away and came back with our check.  She was nice enough to have deducted our drinks.  Well, we actually drank our drinks - why not just let us pay for that and be done.  This was definitely not a good eating experience and we will not be back.  It's hard to believe how many people in Eugene love this place.  They obviously don't know what good Italian food really tastes like.  Olive Garden is way better, less expensive, and don't have cramped little broken corner tables!! We were part of a large group for a Bar Mitzvah lunch and were treated like royalty. Our drinks were never empty, the food came in generous portions, and our waitress was attentive. The rolls are delicious and the lasagna was deliciously cheesy. A member of the group had special dietary needs and was accommodated graciously. Overall we had a great experience here! More...

We used to occasionally get take-out from Mazzi's, last night's experience reminded me why we quit.  Rating is based on service, since I didn't have the pleasure of eating any food.  We placed a take-out order and were told it would be ready in 45 minutes.  We found some errands to run and showed up at 45 minutes on the dot.  The person handling the take-outs informed us that he had just then put in the order and it would be about 20 minutes and invited us to wait at the bar.  I invited him to kiss my ass and we left.  It wasn't like they were busy, the restaurant was less than half full.  Unless you enjoy pretentious dillwads who think they work in a 5-star restaurant serving Olive Garden-quality food, recommendation is to skip this place.  Beppe & Gianni's is way better if you're looking for Italian. I had purchased a Living Social/Groupon/whatever a few months ago and I was looking forward to some calzone. There aren't many calzone places in Eugene anymore!A girlfriend and I decided on an early dinner on Tuesday night and I was shocked by how crowded the parking lot was. It was a Tuesday after all!  Come to find out, there is a bakery behind them that has a pizza special and it's quite the draw.After parking on the street, I made my way inside. Thankfully, it wasn't Mazzi's that was drawing in the crowd.  The hostess was nice enough I guess but not "welcoming". I was offered a drink, water and yummy bread while I waited.We dined on the patio which was really nice.  Our waitress was wonderful. Not only was she attentive but she was engaging and offered her recommendations when asked.  The owner (I assume) even came out and was speaking to the guests. Nice man that appears to have a truly personal attachment to the restaurant.  The food was good. We split a calzone (and still had enough for left overs), soup, salad and spumoni.  The calzone was pretty good. I would have liked more toppings but the crust was great. I forgot to ask for meat sauce (note to self: get the meat topping!) but the marinara was good.  All in all, it was a nice evening. I'm sure we'll be back. More...

As far as price-value, I feel your paying for atmosphere and tradition more than for the food. I have been coming here since I was a kid back in the 80's. I had not gone to Mazzi's for at least a decade until last year. I have been there five  times since.Some of their servers are arrogant and unpleasant. The rest are totally awesome. If you scroll down to Cambrias review you will see our experience was about the same. Sat down and waited 15 minutes before our waitress stopped by. Though friendly, the service was horrible. My wife's dinner was served ice cold. To make up for the time it took to reheat it our waitress dropped another glass of wine by the table, but my wife neither asked or wanted another glass of wine. Then, two hours later when we were still trying to escape I asked the host if he could take payment for our still to appear bill but he said he couldn't help me. Overall my wife and I felt as if we had been tortured for the last 2 hours, the experience was that horrible. So sad because this is where we had our first date over twenty years ago and now we'll never go back. You can't give each waitress 10+ tables and a shared bus boy and give good service.  I brought this up with the waitress and apparently the reasoning behind this is so the wait staff can make more in tips at the sacrifice of good service More...

Yah ~ Not really a fan. The only thing in my opinion that Mazzi's has going for it is the creamy pesto salad dressing, but I would rather make my own than have to deal with Mazzi's to have it. Heres the thing, while the dining area is super spacious, the overall feel is a little....well.....off. I will say that they gave me my first experience ever of listening to salsa music whilst eating Italian food. Our server was "just not that into us", and I don't know about you, but one thing I love about say, Beppe and Gianni's is all of that fan-freaking-tastic bread. I am a carb slor. So when our server brought out a "basket" that contained 2 (yes you read that right, 2.) rolls that were hard as rocks with those freezing cold, tin wrapped "pats" of butter, I nearly cried. For the prices, I would have happily eaten at the OLIVE GARDEN over this place. Seriously. At  least the Olive Garden brings me copious amounts of bread and salad, AND would never serve me COLD fettuccine alfredo. *Sigh*Beppe & Gianni's....I will never betray you again. More...

Mazzi's is ok for simple things.  I had a pretty good pizza, which was reminiscent of ones in Naples that are thin crust and light on the toppings.  The waitress was very pleasant and attentive.  The Southern person that panned it as a crack-head hangout (on re-reading his post one wonders why he seems obsessed with drugs?) seemed to have issues about sweet tea.  He should realize it is only in the South that such a silly concoction is common;  the rest of the US serves ice tea straight, unsweetened  - you had however much sugar you want. Tough to rate this restaurant.  Has some things going for it - the excellent bread (made at Hideaway Bakery), the decent service, and the ambiance (although there are a couple of badger seats in the house.  If you get put at one of those tables it will probably be a little more awkward).The food is just a little pricey for the quality and weak presentation.  Not much to say about this place really.  If you want Italian food in Eugene, and you're not going to La Perla, this is one of the more casual and affordable places.As for dessert, the Creme Brulee was one of the best I've ever had. As Emily S. notes, Mazzi's gets a bonus star from me for their ambiance and principled treatment of the food that they serve. It's true that it probably won't be the best you've ever had, but it's consistently pretty damn good, the service is great, and you can feel good about the food that you're eating. Another plus about Mazzi's is that they have the space and training to accommodate a full house. They're pretty busy there on Fridays/Sundays but we rarely have to wait and we've never had a frustrating, our-harried-waitress-can't-figure-out-how-to-deal-with-6-tops kind of scenario. I've had good experiences with all of their fish plates and risottos, but what I really recommend you try is something with red sauce (which you can substitute on any dish, btw). It's tasty, and makes their calzones rather dangerous. Finally, if you're a Yewjean resident, you should know that Mazzi's is doing a lot to make our community a better place. Mazzi has partnered with local farmers to create a wonderful build-your-own CSA in "Eugene Local Foods." He has also instituted a couple of much-needed weekly events in "Pizza on the Patio," which can be found at both Mazzi's patio as well as Ninkasi's. As a long-time Willamette Valley resident, I've watched TWO Mazzi's close (could someone tell me the story someday, please?). One in Salem (where I had my first Shirley Temple, and learnt about dipping breadsticks in marinara sauce), and one in Corvallis. Let's not let that happen to us here. More...

Last night, I had the great displeasure of eating at Mazzi's. I went with my girlfriend, her mother, and several other members of her family.I'm not sure how much crack you have to smoke to make this food taste "fine" or "good", as the other reviewers have stated. I encourage you all to seek substance abuse therapy. This food was "like cardboard", "horrible" and "abhorrent". (Look at all my fancy words!)Our waitress seemed irritated that we even showed up. I asked for sweet tea to drink. Sweet tea. Not battery acid. Not sewage. Yet, she had to ask, "What is sweet tea?" Ahem, you mentally incompetent server - it's quite simple to describe: It is TEA that is SWEET. ADJECTIVE + NOUN = PRODUCT.I can't be the first person to ever ask you for sweet tea. I'm really glad I didn't ask for an Arnold Palmer. She might have brought me a golfer.Shall we get to the food?As far as dog food goes, it was the best dog food ever prepared. The Alpo company had better watch their back, because they have some serious competition in the canine food arena.(My girlfriend has corrected me - This isn't a "Dog Food Restaurant"? WHAT?! They're serving this food to people? It's fit for human consumption? Oh dear...)I ordered the Stromboli. What I got was a giant hot pocket topped with not-very-ripe tomatoes. If this restaurant actually serves fresh produce, their gardening techniques are... probably being directed by people on crystal meth.The contents of my Stromboli were somewhat cooked. Somewhat. You don't want to go and cook the food too much. People will start expecting it.My girlfriend ordered the eggplant parmesan. She got a piece of damp piece of cardboard covered with Kraft powdered cheese. She ate one bite.I'm not sure if anyone at the table really enjoyed the food. Yet, we thought, "Let's get dessert."We ordered the Tiramisu. Perhaps by luck, they were out of it. Given the quality of the rest of the meal, we were probably saved from a damp sponge covered in cinnamon.I ended up with mocha cheesecake. It obviously wasn't prepared at Mazzi's, because it was actually decent. I was just in a hurry to get the taste of my meal of out my mouth.So, in conclusion: Mazzi's is what happens when you allow a group of crystal meth addicts to commandeer and Olive Garden, and then double the prices of everything on the menu. Ok so I went here on a date on 8/12/10  and if not for the company the whole evening would have been miserable! The wait to GET a table was ok. But only until we sat down. There was a WHOLE room of tables by the hallway where the bathrooms were that was set but completely empty. That pissed me off. DON'T make people wait to be seated for 15 minutes unless your at full capacity! And we werent the only people waiting! There was 2 other sets of people that were waiting when we walked in.  After we were seated. The waiter came by about 10 minutes later, to give us bread and take our drink orders. It took 10 minutes to get our drinks and in between he came out to tell us he was out of lemonade for my date. When we finally got our drinks and ordered dinner, we had sat there at the table for  for 20 minutes! And in the resturant for 35. There was absolutly no reason for us to wait that long. It wasnt that busy! I took a drink of my soda and it was really syrupy so I caught him and asked for him to fix it. 15 minutes later I got my drink back. When we finally got out food about 40 minutes after ordering. (steak and Lasagna) The steak and veggies were cold, and the Lasagna tasted like stouffers in the freezer isle. If we wanted cold and stouffers I would cook at home.  The ONLY person to come by on a regular basis was the guy refilling our water(thankgod) cause we would have died of thirst! I dont think my soda was ever refilled and so the water was it! The only thing good was the salad that came with the meal.  When we complaind the Manager was astonished. LOL although if I had read this site before going I woulda laugh at him. He did take eveything off our bill assuring us that it wasnt stouffers Lasagna and  saying it was slow because of this big table of 11 that was close to us. Wow. First time I tried this place was just because it came up on a google search for nearby pizza places in S Eugene. I wanted a margarita pizza, but since they didn't have one I just ordered a cheese pizza with tomatoes on the side. My bf and I were blown away by the time we got it home. It was so fresh and flavorful, we ate the whole thing on the spot! So, after we were punished by Cafe Lucky Noodle two nights before(long story, but in short: nasty attitude, nasty food!), last night we came back to this amazing little place. We walked in and were greeted immediately and offered our choice of indoor or outdoor seating, we chose outdoor. After being shown to our cute little table for two among crawling vines, umbrellas and a calming fountain, we were poured iced water while we perused the wine menu. We had a lovely server with a friendly smile and a comforting energy. Right away she went above and beyond our expectations by bringing us a wine recommendation from the chef after our apparent indecision over wine choices. Good thing she did! The rolls were fresh out of the oven, plentiful and irresistibly good. My bf loved his entree, chicken...something with whipped potatoes and julienned vegis. His meal was perfectly seasoned and prepared, the chicken was tender, the sauce was creamy but not heavy, and the potatoes were light with subtle hints of garlic. He usually doesn't eat zucchini or squash, but he devoured every last sliver.Throughout the meal, the ambiance was homey yet romantic as we ate by candlelight and listened to the fountain as we sipped our wine. We finished the meal off with creme brulee, it was simple but spot-on and delicious. The meal was unpretentious- no extravagant garnishes or crazy fusion, just fresh ingredients paired well and prepared perfectly. It set the mood for an unforgettable dinner and a movie date. Mazzi's food was OK.  It was a little bland, but other than that it was fine.  The wait staff was nice and they did a good job taking care of us.  It seems to be a good place to take your family as there were several families dining when we visited Mazzi's.  I probably won't go there again, but I can't recommend against going there either.  I haven't  been able to find an Italian place in Eugene that I actually like.  Until that happens, I guess Mazzi's is about as good or bad as anywhere else. I just moved here and Mazzi's is fairly close to where my boyfriend and I live. It was about 8 so I wanted to find something we could get into fast. When we arrived we put our name on the list and were sat within the first 5 minutes which was great and surprising.So we waited about 12 minutes for our server to come by at all. She took our drink and dinner order and returned about 5 minutes later to inform us that she told the cooks to make our dinner first because it was just the two of us and that she just popped some bread in the oven for us but that the dinner might take a while.She returned about 10 minutes later with some bread, and my boyfriends drink but not mine, which by the way I told her I was very excited about.So about 25 minutes pass...(in which time I notice my drink has been at the bar the entire time) and my server finally brings me a semi-flat italian soda and says she will refill my boyfriends soda.She says the food should be up soon and we smile politely.We wait another 15 minutes and we are both rather irritated...We both ordered noodle dishes and the restaurant wasn't even close to packed so why it was taking 45 minutes to bring out spaghetti and fettucini I do not know. So our food finally arrived along with my boyfriends drink.I'm so excited because we are starving and it looks so good.I take a bite and it's cold.not just lukewarm...IT'S COLD!Like it's been sitting out for at least 10 minutes. The noodles are dry, everything is cold, and it's flippin gross.They waitress stops by about 10 minutes later and asks if we need boxes while walking away. I say yes.She walks back a few minutes later and asks if we need boxes again. YES. SHIT! We still need boxes!She grabs our plates and takes them over to the side where she boxes them up and sets them down for about 5 minutes.Finally she brings them back, drops the check...I never complain...I've worked in restaurants many years and I understand things happen happen sometimes but this was flippin ridiculous!I told her that I am not trying to be rude but my food was completely cold when I got it.She looked at me and said "oh no i'm sorry um...do you want some desert?" I said "no, i just" and she said "no, no I'll bring you desert...um I'll tell him about it"and walked away.NO lady, I want you to take my meal off of the bill. I don't want you to box up some more food that I don't want.our bill was 40 dollars for 2 nasty entrees that neither of us really ate.Why would they make us pay for that !?A decent server would have comped SOMETHING besides a desert that I didn't ask for that had hair in it.A good server would have comped our meal and told her manager about the ridiculous service we got.My boyfriend said he's never thought about ditching out on the bill but he was considering it this time. Oh Mazzis, how I like thee!  First off, I'll say that I feel a little weird giving Mazzi's and Belly the same rating, so Mazzi's you've got to get the 2 stars. (Full Disclosure: Belly should be rated at 4 stars if you're only looking at Eugene restaurants).Anyway, tonight I went to dinner here for a job interview as part of the interviewing committee (Note: They apparently don't directly charge the university like many others in town, but it wasn't an issue).  I've been to Mazzi's dozens of times previous to this one, but they have all been about the same: Nothing to make you want to rush back, but ok.  For me, the best part about this restaurant is Hideaway Bakery.  The fresh baked bread is hard to beat, and it's a great start to a good meal.  Needless to say, I ate a couple pieces of bread as we were waiting.  Hot, soft on the inside, and a hard crust make for a perfect roll.We skipped alcohol on this trip, but it's worth mentioning that the wine selection is pretty good here; although, they don't have a ton of options by the glass.  The full bar is nice as well, for those so inclined.The atmosphere was very welcome as today we experienced monsoon rains (heavier than the usual monsoon rains).  The fire was going in the main room and it felt very cozy and warm inside.We had to wait for a while because the restaurant was packed, and when we were seated, it looked like there was plenty of room.  Normally, one might wonder "what the hell?" at this point, but I think it ties back into how Mazzi's is run.  You might have to wait a little while, even though there IS room to sit, but the service you get for waiting is  good.  If they sat everyone, the kitchen and servers would be swamped (Another Note: It was Wednesday night).I ended up ordering the Cioppino because I love that stuff and I had not tried it at Mazzi's yet.  My colleagues got either the Red Snapper or the Salmon special.  We all had salads with our meal, and they looked great upon arrival.  Mine was delicious; lightly coated with the house italian dressing and some freshly cracked pepper.When the meals came, I knew I should have got one of the specials too.  No offense to the Cioppino, but the other dishes looked a lot better and a bit more substantial.  Having said that, my meal was very filling.  The seafood in the Cioppino tasted fresh and freshly cooked.  A telltale sign were the shrimp, which were soft, succulent and nowhere near overcooked.  Considering how easy it is to overcook shrimp, I was impressed.  The scallops were great as well; although they were a little too cooked.  Then again, most probably don't enjoy scallops the way they're supposed to be eaten.  The calamari was perfect, and I even got some intact bodies (think tentacles).  It was hard to detect the fresh fish, if it was in there at all.  The clams, however, were perfect.  Now, beyond the actual seafood in this dish, we come to the broth.  Here is where I was actually disappointed.  The broth was fresh tasting, a little tart and very tomato.  The only thing was that it tasted canned.  I'm used to a more seasoned Cioppino I guess, so my tastebuds were left wanting.  I've had Cioppino before that blew my mind.  It was complex, well-seasoned, and the broth had taken on characteristics from the seafood and other 'secret' additions.  This Cioppino seemed like they took the seafood from the skillet and dumped it into a bowl of tomato sauce that could have just as easily been inside a stromboli.  In fact, I've had the stromboli here, and, well, you get the point.At the end of the meal, I was satisfied and not overly stuffed--always a plus in my book.  No one had any issues with their food (I won't count the shrimp in mine that still had 1/2 its shell on).  The service was fast, thorough and friendly.I didn't pay the bill, or see it, but I know that all of our meals were basically $18 each.  The salad came with mine, but theirs were extra.  If we assume $5 for those, that's another $20 on top of $90 for dinner.  Drinks couldn't have been over $10 for everyone combined (all free refills).  So, a nice and cozy dinner for 5 for $120 (before tip) in a warm, comfortable setting that is not hard to re-visit every once in a while.P.S.  I said they don't take reservations, but that's not quite true.  They do, but only if you're 8 or more.  Who usually goes out to eat with 7 other people though? Oh Mazzi's. Some of my very favorite memories of my fiancé and my 1st dates are of us nuzzled up to the bar, the crackling fire slowly rapping a warm blanket around us, the candle light dancing off of our faces, the buzz of conversation swirling around us and the smell of garlic in the air... maybe it was the man, maybe it was the Merlot but either way I fell in love at Mazzi's. If in the mood for a fast dinner don't stop in... You should not go to Mazzi's just for dinner... You go to Mazzi's for the experience of going to Mazzi's... you know crackling fire, candle light, the wine, the buzz in the air... It's got such a wonderful atmosphere. Matt and tend to enjoy sitting at the Bar the best; we both enjoy a closer relationship to our wine provider. Because of this the service is alway prefect. If we aren't at the bar, we're in their out door sitting area. Which is beautiful. And surprisingly I tend to forget that we are right next to the road.  I tend to go for the Daily Specials as I feel that sometime the menu can get a bit boring. I don't think it's changed since my mom worked their 20 years ago. As Emily S. has already pointed out it is "quite extensive"... pages and pages of Calzones, Pizza's, Paste, Pork, Chicken.... it just goes on and on. But I dont care... having a lot of choices never bothered me any.If you've had bad service I would suggest trying just one more time, belly up to the bar style. Mazzi's gets points for the warm, cozy atmosphere and it's environmental ethics. While the menu might be typical Italian fare, it's not your typical Italian restaurant.   Much of the vegetables served are grown on a farm just over the hill, and they use organic wheat and salvaged lumber for their wood burning ovens.  Meat and poultry is hormone free and free range, I believe.  The menu is quite extensive.  There are the usual suspects:  lasagne, ravioli, calzones, etc. and then there are the revolving specials.  We've enjoyed the pan fried trout, the salmon and the wildmushroom ravioli off the special menu.  The pasta is lovely, and homemade, I think.  I've had good service at Mazzi's.  We took family to eat there the day after our wedding this summer, and the server graciously waived the  corkage fees for our wedding wine we brought.  The place is always busy, so despite some of the negative reviews here, they must be doing something right. The food alone at Mazzi's is five-star.  I think that they have the highest quality Italian food of any restaurant here in Eugene.  However, I can't give them five stars for this review because of the long wait and slow service.  I don't know if they are busy every single night, but when we went it was 40-50 minutes wait to even get a table, 30 min wait to get our orders, then almost another hour to actually get the food.  Needless to say, we were very hungry by the time the food arrived.  The items were pricey but I felt the quality of the food merited it.  Although the service was super slow and not very attentive, I would not say that anyone was impolite or rude to us, but neither was it glowingly cheerful.  I think that the food was worth the wait, but it's not a place I would go back to very frequently and especially not when I'm hungry and want to eat any time within the next hour.  A visit to Mazzi's would probably be best with friends who don't mind socializing and entertaining yourselves while waiting for the food. Loved the appetizers here - specifically the calamari and stuffed mushrooms.   The calamari was done very light, and the mushrooms were delicious, covered with bubbling mozzarella.  Lots of delicious beers on tap. As for the entrees, they were nicely sized and tasted fine, but not extraordinary.  Seafood linguine was really heavy on mini scallops.  Great atmosphere and fine service, although my sister in law got her salad at the same time we all got our entrees.   Also be forewarned the house salad is a creamy Italian, not a vinaigrette. The bread is delicious and the atmosphere charming.The service horrendous. I've never been treated so poorly in a restaurant.  The server was rude and disrespectful.  He rushed us, acted very pretentious when it came to wine ordering, snuffed at our choice of entrees, forgot to bring the wine and acted put off when he had to take it off the bill.  He never acknowledged our Thanks yous and never smiled and never apologized for forgetting the wine. I've eaten here a few times while living in Eugene, in fact just 7,1mins from this restaurant! Just off Amazon but easy to find, has a small parking lot on an incline. Big dining area including a terrace which is busy and crowded on sunny days. Salads are good along with the soups; I've had a few of their pasta but the bread is very good. I think the first item I ever ordered here was their calamari fritti. It's lightly floured and served with lemon aioli. at $9.50 it's quite a big plate that can serve 3 or 4. I ate it all meself  ;-)  Though the prices seem high, I think it's quite reasonable considering that in Eugene you can pay $8 for a pancake. Very dark interior lighting at night so bring your flashlights, but very nice decor. Don't miss the restored antique kitchen stove located as you enter and on your left just before entering the dining area!! More...

This is a great place for simple, comfort-y Italian food.  I hadn't been here for at least 10 years, and it was a surprise that it was *just* what I needed on a Friday night that I didn't feel like cooking.  At 7 on a Friday, there was a 20-30 minute wait for a party of two, but that time evaporates pretty quickly when you can order drinks from the bar and take them into the waiting room.  It's not exactly out of Italy, but it's not the Olive Garden either.I had the chicken cannelloni, and my mom had spaghetti with mushroom sauce.  The chianti was surprisingly delicious -- you could tell we received a just-opened bottle, but it developed nicely over dinner. This use to be one of my favorite resturants back when I was in high school, but it seems to have declined over the years. The atmosphere is great. Very rustic and homey. The service is give or take, dependiing on the day of the week and time you go. Sometimes it's great, others I have been close to getting up and leaving. The menu hasn't changed much, but the quality of the food isn't what it use to be. Still beats going to Olive Garden or other such place (usually), but wouldn't be my first choice for a special night out. More...

Maybe I'm a bit critical growing up in the North End of Boston, But when I took my wife to ""Mazzi's"" I was expecting a little more. All I heard since moving here was that Mazzi's is the place. I reserved for a party of 15, had no issues with the reservation. The staff was quite helpful and our server was very kind and polite despite it being extremely busy. However, the quality of the food was not what I expected. The side of pasta was good but the chicken was over cooked and just didn't taste right. The waiter brought more pasta in order to make up for it which was nice but they should look at how they are preparing the chicken. We totally enjoyed our first visit to Mazzi's. My daughter is vegan and she was thrilled that she could enjoy their fresh baked bread rolls. She had pasta in a split order with the red sauce on half and their pesto on the other. She really enjoyed them both. I had the chicken Parmesan and it was the best I've had since I can remember. It was something about the texture of the breading that reminded me of the chicken Parmesan I had and I was a kid in the Boston area. The Caesar salad was very very good, not the best I've ever had but definitely homemade and yummy, especially those croutons. Absolute WORST dinning experience I have ever had!!!!! It was my first time visiting Mazzi's for a Christmas get together with friends. Waiter was told that our party was larger than our reservation was for, and then proceeded to take it out on us all evening. From rollin eyes, to breathing heavy in exasperation, to yanking bill out of our hands, it just went on and on. Waiter said our party of 9 was a waste, and why were we given the private room when a larger party was crammed into the corner. none of which had anything to do with us. Out of fear of verbal attack, I still tipped 20%, and left a note stating that I would have been happy to tip more, but our waiter was NOT very kind. Waiter then proceeded to return and ask in an elevated voice, "who left this note?" "Was it you?" pointing in my direction. When I said yes, and that I didn't think He was being very nice, He crumbled up the receipt and THREW it to the table beside us. This was the most shocking/ threatening experience I have ever had at a restaurant.
We spoke to the owner as a group before we left, he apologized for our experience and said he would talk to him, but offered nothing in return for our very unsettling experience. I will never Return, and will not recommend Mazzi's to anyone!
I ordered the Penne Vodka, the sauce was very rich and had a good flavor, but the pasta was over cooked, and not even close to al dente.

Mazzi's is fantastic, I cannot oversell this wonderful, locally owned, oasis in the Craving Desert. The atmosphere is lovely, intimately candle lit and not a cheesy stereotype in site. Perfect for a first date, impressing your in-laws or celebrating an anniversary. The food is everything. Traditional dishes made from family recipes by chefs you want to kidnap. The bruschetta is fresh and toasty and herb-y perfection, dipped in...did I mention the olive oil? Be still my heart! A bowl of this silky, rich, buttery, Renaissance inspiring stuff for your dipping pleasure.
The Shrimp Scampi...my description would not be fit for family viewing. Reasonably priced, relaxed but special. Definitely not a disappointing, cookie-cutter corporate chain. I hope you try it!

Let me start off to say I’m BIG on reviews because I truly believe in good customer service and feel like no matter what company small or big should treat their customers good.
I planned a Christmas party here and was really excited about doing it at Mazzi’s because I love the environment and love Italian food!
Unfortunately, my experience was awful! I’m an event planner in the area and love to help throw parties but this was by far the worst situation. I was very communicative throughout the entire process (I called 3 times before the event date to give them updates on how many people etc) well with the holidays we had some last minute cancellations (completely out of my control) anyways the waiter we had treated us so so poorly that I was embarrassed for his sake! He was very stressed and took it out on all of us ladies there at the party! He was extremely rude and rushed us so that he could get out of there, stomped off with our bills when we went to go split the check (which I spoke to the restaurant ahead of time to make sure we could split the checks up) we weren’t done drinking our water but he didn’t ask us if we were done and just took everything, was huffing and puffing because I think he was upset that we didn’t order more than we did (we don’t drink alcohol so I think he was expecting more) also the restaurant didn’t communicate very well with him because he thought we were going to be a party of 27 (which that was never the case) and the restaurant should’ve communicated that to him but instead he took it out on us!
So my conclusion is that I would not recommend this place to anyone because of how things were handled and my parents go here on a regular basis and my husband takes me on a date here once in a while so it saddens me to say I won’t be or my parents won’t be back here nor will I recommend it to any friends or family!

I really liked the owner but he didn’t seem to want to help us out when we went and spoke to him at the end he was apologetic which was nice but didn’t offer to help!
