We recently completed a backyard renovation with pavers. Jim Wright was a wonderful project manager to work with. He was very accommodating and responsive, and he steered us in the right direction throughout the whole process. Jim's knowledge, insights, and experience gave us a great design. The crew completed their work in just a week - we thought it would take two or more. The crew was very responsible and the work area was cleaned up and handed off well. At the end of it, we have a beautifully paved backyard. My experience with Black Diamond, which included TonyB and GenoG was that of a well-run business.They treat customers fairly and with respect. TonyB was on top of the details, and there were many. He kept the pipeline of personnel and materials needed at the site arriving in a timely manner.

TonyB treated me fairly throughout the process, including with the occasional Change Orders.

When there were differences of opinion, I always felt that when discussing these differences with TonyB or GenoG, that they respected my opinion and would do their level best to accommodate me, or when not possible they would explain clearly why not.

I greatly appreciated their no sales-ish bs. These guys work with you rather than trying to manipulate you by making promises that they can’t or won’t deliver.

In summary, I doubt that I could have done any better than Black Diamond, TonyB, and GenoG.

I'm absolutely sure that I could have done worse, and I have the financial scars to prove it, since I had to fire my first contractor after an absolutely disastrous experience, which still has not been resolved.

First of all I would like to thank Bruce Pressman     the Senior Project Design Specialist who made the whole process very smoothly and successfully. We had the wood deck in our back patio of the town house for many years, it gave us a lot of headaches for its frequent needs for repair. It's hard for us to think about redoing the back patio because of the very tedious work with HOA. Our HOA has very strict rules on Architecture Change Request. Not only they ask for very detailed job description to follow their rules but also they have special request for the contractor's liability insurance. Fortunately I found Bruce who made the impossible mission possible. He is so easy to communicate and always replied to my request in a timely manner. Because of him, our back patio was replaced with very nicely designed paver stones and also it passed the HOA inspection on the first visit. Black Diamond recently finished our backyard project.  We were looking to eliminate mud and places for our dog to dig in the rainy months.   I found them on Yelp and Steve Turner (designer) came to our house and came up with a design within our budget and more functional and attractive than we had envisioned. Steve is very professional and easy to work with and made sure we were happy with the project the entire way through, he knew we had a budget and completed part of the demo and finish work himself and delivered some recycled blocks to shore up a retaining wall that was not within the initial scope of the project.  Once the crew was available the project moved quickly and was completed ahead of the estimated finish time (Demo foreman Flavio and Installed by Augustin's crew - very professional). We were very impressed with the cleanliness throughout the entire project.  From beginning to end we felt Steve wanted to ensure we were happy with the process, progress and finished project.  We love our new yard!! We recently replaced our driveway and front yard with pavers. We chose Black Diamond and Michael Martinez was our project manager, we couldn't be happier with the results. Michael is extremely knowledgeable, always got back to us in a timely manner and answered all of our questions. His team was very reliable and they were on time every day. She provided input on pavers and colors that works well for out space, answered questions we have along the way and kept us updated on the progress. They workmanship, fit & finish thus far is great - it's been about a month since they completed the project. I'm not too worry though, as their work is covered by a 27yr warranty. Also, the team took time sweeping and washing dirt & gravel off the driveway after the project is complete. So, kudos to them for really finishing the job! I had a positive experience working with Fidel from Black Diamond. He was very responsive throughout all stages of my project and provided plenty of design and paver material options for me to review. Fidel even invited me to see demos of existing pavers so I could visualize the final product. When it comes to design, Fidel showed a lot of flexibility. Thea French was our designer and her high energy and love for her profession really sold us on contracting with them. Since we didn't have a clear idea of what we wanted, she gave us lots of suggestions and guided us through the whole process. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but Thea walked us through patiently and was very informative. Once we signed the contract, the work started immediately. Thea, Columba, and Raymundo, like a great team that they are, scheduled and coordinated the work very well. Throughout the project, Thea came by often to check the progress and informed us on what to expect in the next phase of the project.Raymundo and his paving team are artists. The painstaking attention to detail given for each cut of stones to carefully laying them perfectly in their spot was amazing to watch! Once the stones were paved, Thea shined even more. She chose great assortment of plants that are drought tolerant and look beautiful together. Can't wait for them to grow and fill out!It has been couple months since the project finished, and Thea still checks in to ask how the plants are doing. We had a pretty significant backyard overhaul that we've been meaning to do for years and finally went forward with it.  Black Diamond (BD) had some of the most consistent highly rated reviews and customer experiences that caught our eye.  Right from the initial meeting and quotation stages, everyone was laid out clearly and on point.  Julie really helped make the process easy, and it didn't take long for us to make a decision to move forward.Once we locked our contract in, we had a scheduled start date in mind but it was contingent on other things to get done by other contractors.  BD was great in working with us on our scheduling and made things flexible and had clear lines of communication.The start date came, Julie had Juan Aguilar and his crew start promptly and man did they work hard and efficiently.  Everyone in Juan's crew, and Juan himself were extremely attentive and respectful to our property and made it a point to keep things not-related to the project in the exact same (if not better) condition that they saw it in.The project was slated to take anywhere from 2-3 weeks, they finished it in ten days w/o zero complications.  Anything that needed to be touched up or was out of place was extremely minor and was fixed promptly.There was a little mixup with some of the numbers at one point, however Julie was extremely patient in reviewing everything and getting it all corrected literally overnight.  BD really is an example of how a company should be ran.  Not every company is perfect, and when issues arise, they don't hide from it, they address and fix it promptly and with respect.This is one of the better experiences I've had with a contracting company.  Their communication, efficiency, and professionalism is top notch.  I'm glad we went with them, and would highly recommend them for your landscaping needs. We had been thinking of updating our yard for a few years, but could not decide on a plan. Bonnie C. is an amazing designer who was referred to us by a neighbor that raves about their own yard. We are more than satisfied with Bonnie's design. She spoke to all of us, including our children, took into consideration that we have dogs, chickens, love to garden and how we like to entertain. The finished product looks fantastic. The job involved replacing front yard concrete drive way & walkway with pavers, redoing tiles on front porch + new step, and paving a section of the backyard with a sitting wall. Cost was reasonable. Rob, the project manager, offered excellent design help, was responsive, and methodical. Particularly impressed with Rafa & Geronimo, the tile guys. There were delays in completion, weekend make up work, multiple fixes to turf/sprinkler system, and a less than stellar clean up. But they got it right at the end. And summer being the busiest time for landscaping, I was willing to cut some slack. Overall a very happy customer. More...

Black Diamond did a fantastic job on my pavers. They look beautiful and really do a lot to improve the look of my yard. The project was not only aesthetic, however, the need was created by a drainage problem in my yard that created a flood in the low area of my yard every time we have a heavy rain. David Weissenberg designed a drainage system under the pavers to alleviate this problem. They also pit in stepping stones where the redwood tree roots made putting in pavers difficult. The stones look really nice and Juan Lopez, the project manager made sure they are perfectly level with the pavers. He put in pipes under the pavers in case I want lighting or have some water pipe issues in the future. He re-hung my gate so it was even better than it had been before they took it down for the pavers. The project cost was reasonable in comparison with other bids I obtained beforehand. Travis Thorson, the project coordinator was easy to work with and everyone was very nice. I am posting some photos of my beautiful project. The small stones were added by my personal gardener after the project was completed. One of the reasons I decided to go with Black diamond was their long warranty period. I doubt I'll have to use it but it does give me peace of mind. More...

I would like to provide a review on the quality of work by Lacy Valenzuela, Project Design Specialist with Black Diamond Paver Stones & Landscape, Inc. Lacy and her team did an incredible job of interpreting a very rough hand written diagram that I provided her with the vision and dream we had for our new backyard. It is a more intimate yard that includes a pergola, small water feature, storage building and landscape that suits this smaller space. Lacy took the time to listen to our desires and wishes for this space including thoughts about hardscape, barbecue area, plants and irrigation. She really listened to what we wanted the end product to look like and at the end of the day she provided us with exactly what we were looking for. Thank you Black Diamond of Sacramento for a great experience from start to finish. We are very happy with the way everything turned out. The pavers, walls, stone and landscaping all complement each other perfectly. Lacy Valenzuela was wonderful to work with. She was a great listener and was very attentive to hearing what we wanted and offering her expert advice from time to time. We had a fabulous experience with Black Diamond Landscape. Jim R was our representative. He helped us through the entire project from design to completion.  We didn't have to invest in a separate designer, as it was a one stop shop.  Hector was the project manager, who ensured his crew was prepared daily and completed quality work. Jim's suggestions created a backyard living area that is an extension of our house. We love to entertain, and it's now a perfect setting. We were referred to Black Diamond by friends of ours and they were very responsive. Molly was our designer and very helpful when it came to seeing our vision come to life. She provided us with very detailed mock ups of our backyard and provided insight on pavers based on what we told her we wanted. We ended up using Belgard Catalina Grana in Victorian and we love it! Juan, who was our Project coordinator and foreman was amazing! I can't say enough great things about how hard Juan and his team of guys worked, they really did an amazing job. We did have a slight mess up during the project where the wrong stone was ordered for our sitting wall, but Black Diamond took care of the issue right away and made it right. We must also give a shout out to Annette, a customer care specialist. I called Juan our Project Coordinator because the one we had really wasn't helpful. She was hard to get ahold of and really not responsive. It was almost impossible to get a start date out of her, even though we said we don't care if it a few months out, we just want a start date (we had electrical going in and needed to get the electrician a date to install. We really needed a start date). Annette was wonderful and we were always able to get ahold of her and get any questions or issues resolved quickly. We really appreciated her. Even though we had a few minor hiccups, I would use Black Diamond again in a heartbeat.  You really can't beat their work and attention to deal. And if Juan and his team are involved, count us in! Setting up a consultation was a breeze. Julie came by to inspect and give us a free quote. She also gave us helpful cost saving suggestions. She brought brochures rightaway to give us time to think through what we wanted even though we hadn't yet agreed to them.Very professional setup. The only reason I took off a star is because we didn't go with black diamond due to their start time.
