Badger is a fantastic gym that offers a wonderful hybrid of a heavy lifting space and the more calm, contemporary atmosphere one would expect out of a large chain gym, but without the exorbitant costs or hordes of people.

Everything is fit into the gym spectacularly well including several squat racks, a padded deadlifting platform, and even quieter space upstairs for cardio equipment, and prowlers. Making Badger one of the most ergonomically laid out and user friendly gyms I've ever been to.

The gym is immaculately clean, and well maintained. Which is a huge credit to the owner, Tony Meives, who does the lion's share of work himself, and is all around a great guy. Tony has never been anything but helpful and friendly to myself and others I have seen him interact with at the gym. Which lends an environment of welcome to the entire place.

All said I would highly recommend Badger to anyone seeking a new gym space with quality equipment, well maintained atmosphere, and staffing that is actually involved and helpful.

I had significant issues with my membership at Badger Fitness.

- The annual contract membership I was sold does not include classes. At the end of my first month at Badger I was informed I would need to shell out an extra $67 a month to attend classes, a 200% markup of my original costs. At $32 a month I was happy to attend classes that I had some issues with. At $99 a month I would rather go to a dedicated studio. There are locations here in town that have 3-5 times as many classes, multiple rooms etc for the same price as Badger is charging per month to take classes. I was not at Badger for use of their weights/cardio equipment so this was not a good deal for me at all, and I felt misinformed about how their system worked and then trapped in that system by the end of my first 30 days there.

- Website had/has a ton of bugs, formatting issues, poor scripting. I had actually seen the pricing for classes and had assumed these prices, which it turns out were about to apply to me after my first month, were from a previous era in Badger Fitness' time. It seemed completely feasible to me that they would have outdated pricing on their page due to inconsistencies elsewhere on the site. I reported these issues to them at the beginning of my time with them via email, offered my expertise as a web designer to do the work repairing said issues, and was informed their design firm does updates so they would pass the word along and have them handle it. As of my last viewing of the website none of those issues have been addressed.

- I'm pretty sure most of the gym staff there has little to nothing to do with classes and vice versa. Poor integration there. They set me up with a 1 on 1 with a trainer that was focused on anabolic growth who told me he had only taken a single yoga course in his life. How could my trainer possibly understand my fitness goals coming from this background?

- Feedback I gave to gym owner didn't make it back to relevant yoga instructor until several weeks later, after being told, essentially, "You can't make everybody happy." Once it did reach her, based on what I was told, the information was warped and not what I had asked for. I would recommend having a direct line of communication between students and instructors.

- Had to go to battle to get Tony to cancel my membership after experiencing all of this. They wanted my money and were not overly concerned about my happiness as a customer. I am giving two stars instead of one because they did eventually cancel my membership.

Very clean! Owner is always there cleaning. Cleanliness is very important for a gym. Reasonably priced. Good equipment. Clean "locker" rooms. Only thing is I wish they had lockers in the locker rooms, but I don't worry about anyone stealing anything. Scrappy the gym mascot is cute and friendly.

Very, very clean which is super important for a gym! Owner is always there every weekday cleaning top to bottom. Never too crowded. Great gym if you're not intimidated by big bodybuilder types. Would be 5 stars, but it would be nice if they had lockers IN the locker rooms (you have to dress and then carry your stuff out to lock up at the lockers by the door). Would also be nice to have AB weight machines and more mats for stretching and floor exercises.

People leave us alone and it has never been too crowded. Already feels like a home away from home.
