Paul Brewer's Magical Entertainment

We recently attended a magic show at the park, sponsored by Murray Library, and I was really disappointed by the performance. The magician, Paul, relied almost entirely on outdated gender stereotypes for humor. He made comments like girls needing to be pretty to get a boyfriend, or boys being a “good catch.” At one point, he made a highly inappropriate comment when a young girl said her favorite animal was a snake. She mentioned she had pet one before, and he responded, “Oh, a girl with experience.” This kind of comment, which came across as a sex joke, has absolutely no place in a children’s event. The show was uncomfortable, unfunny, and tone-deaf. I appreciate the library’s efforts to organize community programs, but I hope more care will be taken in the future when selecting performers. Paul did two different parties for us about 12&14 years ago. I was just watching the old videos of it and looked him up and he is still around so I needed to give a shout out to how amazing he is! The video even had me laughing so much. He entertains the kids and throws stuff in for the adults as well. He did such a great job at both events. I wish I had something coming up to hire him again. I booked Paul for an adoption celebration. He made my son the star of the show! His magic kept my entire party engaged and entertained. His magic tricks that awed everyone all ages. He was so funny with jokes kids could understand as well as some that only the adults would get. He brought a live bunny and dove. He had prizes for all the kids which made everyone happy. After the show he took time with each of the kids and let them hold the rabbit or the dove and pose for a photo. We hired Paul for my mothers 80th surprise birthday party for approx. 80 adults and some children. Sadly, mom passed just before her party. Paul was amazing at our son's Harry Potter Birthday party. He controlled the room of almost sixteen 1st graders like a pro and everyone had a blast! I really appreciated that the performance was tailored to our party theme and how interactive it was for the kids. They were laughing, clapping and shouting out answers the whole time. Just had Paul do a party for my 7 year old and all his classmates. I think the price is perfect considering the bowling alley was the same price and only allowed you to bring 8 people where Paul said we could bring as many as we wanted, hundreds even. (Hahah. We invited his class of 28, plus cousins and neighborhood friends. Not everyone showed up, but it was nice to know we didn't have to worry about a 15+ dollar fee for each additional person after 8!) The show was adorable. Paul was amazing at keeping all the kids laughing and entertained the whole time. (Adults too!) They loved the show. He even brought balloon animals for everyone, and magic favors as well (So literally, we didn't have to do much ourselves) I don't know what that one guy down there was talking about racist jokes. Not one of the jokes Paul told was racist. Some were political (about Trump's hair) but they weren't offensive, and they were there for the adults- the kids didn't get it.
