I brought in James (Dedicated Dog Training) last November to help us train our five-month-old Labrador puppy, Angus. I've had three other Labs over the last thirty years, and had others assist with training. James is by far the best trainer we have ever worked with. His easy-going demeanor was refreshing, and Angus, my wife and I immediately keyed into his training strategies. By the end of our first session Angus was no longer pulling garden plants out by the roots. James taught us how to have Angus remain seated when doors and gates are opened, how to properly walk by heeling, sit/stay, come, and not to jump on guests. Me and my dog Blu have had such a great experience working with James. I originally contacted a few different trainers because my dog was a terror to walk, he would bark at any passersby and god forbid we saw another dog on our walk he would go crazy and try to drag me. Being that he is a large breed dog I figured it best to nip this in the bud at a young age before he was 150 pounds and I couldn’t control him. After speaking with a few trainers I felt that James seemed the most personable and after an in person consult where my dog seemed to absolutely love him, I chose to go with him for Blus training. After even the 1st and 2nd sessions the problems had already become so much easier to handle and soon after these behaviors disappeared all together. I now have a very well-mannered dog who I can bring to the park and around other people and dogs without having to worry how he’ll act!! A lot of the training is actually training me as a handler which is something I never would have realized before I started the lessons! James is such a pleasure to work with, very flexible, so nice and my dog is absolutely obsessed with him, which is always a good sign!! Even though we have resolved blu’s original leash walking issues I still see James for sessions to work on all kinds of things with Blu. I would recommend his services to anyone with a dog!! 10/10!! I STRONGLY recommend Dedicated Dog training. I have a 6 month old sheepadoodle. She is very friendly but a lot of energy and despite my best efforts, I could not instill basic obedience. Going on a simple walk became a dreaded ordeal. She spent two weeks with Dedicated Dog Training and the results were amazing. Her big personality is still there, but now she is a great walking companion and listens to my commands. The trainer was patient with me in follow-up sessions, taking the time to explain the process to me and teaching me the practical knowledge to reinforce my dog's new skills and take her even further. This review is long overdue! We are so satisfied with the services provided by James at Dedicated Dog Training. We hired a couple other trainers in the past for basic obedience training, but when our pup was getting reactive and pulling on the leash we knew that we needed a different style of training. We had a great experience with James! He is so knowledgeable and so honest! After spending some time with us and our dog, he told us he “believed the dog did not need the extensive training we may have thought he did and he was not going to take more money”. ..I don’t think I can remember another time this has happened and we were so appreciative! He could have easily told us we needed more sessions and we would have gladly agreed. We wound up talking to James for about two hours and he taught us some great tips. Dedicated dog training was the best decision! Being that my Pomsky is very smart, he would test me a lot and not listen. He would constantly pull me on walks, try and chase any squirrel, dog or person he saw, and make walking him unbearable. After sending him to dedicated dog training for 3 weeks, he came back like the best boy! When I travel with him to the airport, people comment all the time on how well behaved he is. I take him for walks now and he stands right by my side, I even take him to the open park up the block with no leash! 5+Star Review!! James is an incredible dog trainer. We enrolled our high energy, very stubborn puppy Mac in the 4 week boot camp and we couldn’t be happier with the results. I was overwhelmed and completely clueless on how to train a dog and was becoming increasingly frustrated. From my first conversation with James I knew immediately that he was the trainer we needed and after our meeting I was excited to learn that he thought we were the right owners/puppy for him. We opted for the private lessons at a very reasonable cost. At the very first session James was able to get to know our dog and get control of the situation very easily. To say "he knows his stuff," is a complete understatement. He didn't just tell us what to do, he explained the process so that we could better apply the techniques. James has been a God-send, enabling us to finally get control over Dakota, our 10 month old, high-drive long-haired GSD. Dakota is a very intense dog who tried to attack passing cars, barked incessantly, chewed walls, and pulled away furniture to get at toys that rolled underneath. Once she got fixated on something, Dakota would literally push away hot dogs to get at it. After assessing the dog, James was completely frank and honest with my wife, Nancy, and I about the amount of work that would be necessary to gain control over the behaviors. He made it clear that we could not change Dakota, but (maybe) we could learn to control it. Nancy and I completely bought into what James said since our past efforts with a different trainer were a dismal failure. After a few weeks, the transformation has been nothing short of miraculous. Dakota barely notices passing cars, she now heels beautifully, the barking is under control and she doesn't chew walls or pull furniture (at least when she knows we're watching). Dakota is, and will always be, a work-in-progress. As James noted, "she's a lot of dog." It's how she's wired. James is teaching us how to deal with it. Also, we really enjoy working with James. Not only do we appreciate his skill and insights as a trainer, but his sense of humor and patience. He's just a really good guy. I wholeheartedly recommend James and DDT. I recently adopted an adult dog and was looking for obedience training. James was able to provide this and more—he really went above and beyond. Magic (my dog) and I will be taking our Canine Good Citizen test as a step towards therapy work. This would not be at all possible without James’ vast expertise. Not only did he help my dog, but also coached me through training bolstering my confidence as a handler. He truly cares about his clients and it definitely shows. I am so grateful for the knowledge he has equipped me with to ensure my dog is well-behaved and has a happy, healthy life. Not only is he a fantastic trainer, he’s a fun guy to be around. We reached out to James at Dedicated Dog Training to help us with our 4-year old pit Layla. She is so sweet around people, but showed a ton of aggression towards dogs. It was to the point that we didn’t think we could ever take her on walks. We are beyond happy with the help we received. James was extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, and honest. He provided us with the tools we needed and we are amazed at how quickly we have seen changes in our girl. We adopted a 6 and a half year old black English lab, who was very badly behaved. He was humping a lot and, being a very obese lab, he was very powerful. I put him in a 4 week in-house training program and shelled our $3500. He was supposed to be off-leash trained, among other things. When I got him back, he was as bad as before, if not worse. I was SO UPSET, at my wit's end, and I was almost ready to return the dog back to the shelter. At the last second, I called up James. In just one session, James told me how to train him. Just as with the in-house training, we used the e-collar. By the end of the second session, the dog was walking next to me in heel position (without a leash). My last session with James was just us beating around the bush since I got what I wanted out of the dog. My dog is now just a super sweet, gentle being, who is just love incarnate. As for James.....I cannot think of a nicer, more wonderful trainer than him. He is a lot of fun to talk to, train with, and he is always there for any questions and follow-ups. By very leash reactive and aggressive dog did a month of board and train with James. The results were amazing. She is is able to walk past other dogs while on leash without a reaction. We continue to use her e-collar and work hard with her at home too. It is definitely important to follow James advice of not letting the dog sleep on the bed or go on the couch. We had an absolutely amazing experience with with James at Dedicated Dog Training! We have a VERY high energy 10 month old German Shorthaired pointer who likes to do whatever he wants whenever he wants. It was impossible for me to get him to sit for any length of time, let alone lay down and stay. I was unable to walk him on a leash because he was to strong. He stayed with James for two weeks and came back a new boy! He is still my sweet mushy fella but he actually listens to me!
