From the moment I met Carm, I knew I was in good hands. We were doing an office “makeover” in Wilmington DE (I work in Boston). I flew out to meet her within days of our first conversation. She was immediately energetic and understood we had a budget. She understood our vision and our need for our branding to represent our company. When certain items were too expensive, she offered great alternatives — and we never felt like we were settling for less. Carm communicated regularly with EVERYONE involved in the project. She worked with vendors, dealt directly with any changes or requests we had, and handled any minor issue that came up (and only one, out of her hands, occurred with damaged items during shipping). I had a small home office space that I had been working on since Covid. As things transitioned to where I needed to bring clients in, I had a lot of trouble making it something I was comfortable meeting in.
No matter what I did, I could not get it to where I wanted it.
Carmelina was able to see what I could not, and what was the important thing was that she made me feel comfortable hiring a designer, something I had never done, and comfortable working virtually. Carmelina is so warm and intuitive! I love that she was willing to work with me as a small business owner. My job is ultra small but she took it on as if it were her own office!
She quickly understood my branding and that understanding resulted in a wonderful design concept for my office. I am in the process of implementing her recommendations. So far, I've only made beginning level changes but my clients are already commenting on the improved vibe and overall comfort of my office. Since I know very little about design, Carm has patiently answered all of my emails and calls quickly. What do you love most about your job?
I love being able to create beautiful and functional spaces for my Clients. I enjoy the dynamics of having so many variables, ie. location, budget, aesthethic, functional requirements, etc. I love my job!
What inspired you to start your own business?
Before launching my own practice, I worked with several design firms and gained valuable experience on a wide range of projects. Over time, I realized I wanted to create a more personalized approach for my clients. Large firms often involve many team members working on the same project, which can sometimes make the process feel overwhelming.
I founded my business to offer a more direct, one-on-one experience. Clients work closely with me throughout the entire process, from concept to completion. When specialized expertise is needed, I bring in trusted consultants and assemble a team tailored specifically to the project, ensuring each client receives focused attention and a thoughtful, customized solution.

Yes, absolutely. I’ve successfully completed projects across the country, many of which were managed remotely. With today’s technology, it’s easy to collaborate with clients, contractors, and project teams through virtual meetings, shared drawings, and regular communication.
I remain very attentive and involved throughout the process, ensuring clients feel supported and informed every step of the way. Remote projects have proven to be highly effective and seamless with the right coordination and communication.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Many aspects of the design process can now be handled digitally, which allows projects to move forward while minimizing in-person contact. Communication is primarily managed through email, Zoom meetings, and FaceTime walk-throughs when reviewing spaces or discussing project details.
When material selections are required, samples can be shipped directly to clients for review and approval. This approach allows projects to progress smoothly while keeping safety and convenience a priority for everyone involved.

Owner’s Representative
Some clients ask how this differs from the architect or engineer managing their work. While the A&E team focuses on the design and technical aspects within their scope, a project often involves many other participants—such as furniture vendors, technology providers, signage teams, and specialty consultants—who typically fall outside the A&E scope of services.
As an Owner’s Representative, I help coordinate these additional teams and ensure their work is properly integrated with the architect’s plans and the contractor’s construction schedule. By keeping all parties aligned and communication clear, the project can move forward efficiently without gaps or delays.
This allows the client and their internal team to remain focused on running their business, while knowing their project and interests are being carefully represented and managed.
