Highlander Mortgage

I wish I could get a mortgage every year, just so I could work with Ashby McDonald.  In my latest real estate transaction, I worked with agents, inspectors, brokers, and repairmen.  Ashby was the only person who I felt had my back the whole time.  When I wasn't sure about an item in my purchase contract, Ashby would respond quickly to explain things to me.  He was 100% on top of his game the whole time.Towards the end of our option period, we felt our real estate agent wasn't looking out for our best interests.  We talked with Ashby, and he started spotting red flags.  Ashby effectively acted as our agent during this period, which is crazy when you think about it (because he's a mortgage broker).We were very uncomfortable with the purchase agreement on our home, so we ended up terminating it.   We're not done looking though, and if we need a loan we'll be contacting Highlander again.  They have great rates too.Thank you Ashby!! Ashby was recommended to me by a trusted friend so I already knew that he was someone I could trust.  I was not disappointed.  I was pretty "green" so I had many questions about the entire process.  Ashby was always quick to respond and even helped guide me with house questions that I had. Ashby uses a software program that sends out deadline reminders, shows you what action items you have and sends electronic copies/tracking of everything. It made keeping track of everything very easy.However, I was so busy with a work project at the time that I was still struggling to keep on top of everything. Sometimes I needed an extra nudge to meet deadlines and Ashby was on top of it.  He sent me gentle reminders on text and phone calls to check in, or offer his assistance which I really appreciated.  I never felt like he was just there to perform a "transaction".  He made me feel like we were a team. Cannot recommend Ashby highly enough. From our first call, he was incredibly thorough and knowledgeable about my situation and took time to get the pre-approval right. From there, the process was smoother than I ever could have imagined. From the horror stories I've heard from friends and family in the past around securing a loan, I was ready to run into obstacles - but I did not hit a single speed bump, and I credit this to Ashby's diligence and professionalism. As first time home buyers for a new construction, Ashby was extremely helpful!  I would rate 6 stars if I could.  He helped us beat any comparable rate by finding us a program that beat everyone by 0. 50% (without paying for points).  On top of that we got a lot of help through the process for everything from what documents we needed to get and tips and references all along the way, and he saved us a lot of money. (Also had good contacts for home insurance guys).  Even when Ashby was out of town or on vacation Crystal was able to help us (who was also great)- and Ashby would always follow up with everything. I was referred to Highlander Mortgage for a refinance through coworkers at my husband's work a few years ago. Having worked with other lenders in the past, I was so impressed by the transparency and customer service at this company. After comparing fees and quotes I can tell you that Ashby does provide exactly what he promises in a more than fair rate and great service.
We had a small hurdle with our refi and several lenders told me they couldn't help, but Ashby was the only one to help us accomplish our goals. It was clear to me that he actually cared about helping us get through the process.
This year we are purchasing a home in another state and although we couldn't use Highlander due to being out of state Ashby offered to consult with me on the local lender estimates we got. He saved me a ton of money and prevented me from using a lender that was completely ripping me off. I can say how thankful I was to have someone I trusted in the business to consult!

Very pleased with Ashby.  He's a really great guy and has always been very responsive either by by phone, email, and even text.  He is persistent in a good way, detailed oriented, and knows what he's talking about.  He'll explain stuff you might not understand if you ask and he stayed on top of me when I over looked something or if it looked like I was going to forget to get something taken care of by a specific time. I've done 2 mortgages with and referred him multiple times and will continue to keep him in the front of my Rolodex (to use a dated term).  My last closing was an absolute nightmare, and Ashby handled it like a 'bawse' (like a Boss for you Baby Boomers / like a champ for you Octogenarians). We had to switch lenders mid-process due to some complications and Ashby was all over it like white on rice.  Then the new appraiser screwed up THREE times and Ashby identified their(!) problems and really knew how to talk to the appraisers company to get things back on track.One estimate to Ashby's greatness (w.r.t. being a broker, he'd probably be a terrible ballerina) was a story he was telling my realtor at the closing table.  The whole reason I needed a loan was I was moving out of my old home and converting it to a rental and moving into the new place.  The lender calls up Ashby the Friday before our closing on Monday and demands a copy of a signed lease agreement for my old home. LOL_WAT.jpg? Less than 1 business day before  They had never once said they needed this previously, my credit is great, my old home is very cheap so I could handle the payments even w/out renters no problem.  Ashby read them the riot act over the phone and they begrudgingly agreed it wasn't necessary. (He has since stopped using the lending company so you shouldn't have the same problem as I did.)  The point is I never knew about all this and Ashby handled it without a hitch.  He protected my sanity, the closing, and literally saved the day.Dude's solid. There is no reason to go anywhere else. Highlander Mortgage is the best.  Actually, you SHOULD go shop your mortgage around to get the best rate which is how I found Ashby in the first place. My co-worker told me to call Ashby when I started looking for a house, but I didn't listen at first.  I had family in the mortgage business, so I felt bad not going with them. That was a HUGE mistake!I put an offer in on a house and started the mortgage process with my family.  A week later I got the paperwork that showed a higher rate than I saw on Bankrate.com.  I finally listened to my friend and called Ashby. Within 5 minutes I knew that I had to get out of my current deal and move my business to Highlander Mortgage. Ashby started moving quickly since the clock on my house was already ticking. Everything was so easy compared to what I had gone through with the previous company.  We ended up getting everything done ahead of schedule. When bad weather caused the closing date to push out a day, there were no problems.  All of the new paperwork was ready, and both buyer and seller got the deal done.Shop your mortgage around to as many places as you can, but definitely call Ashby at Highlander Mortgage. My husband and I recently sold our home and purchased a new one and it was basically all made possible because of Ashby.  He was able to secure a loan that was hand-picked perfectly for our specific situation, with a great rate and lender credits at closing.  We were thrilled to find Highlander Mortgage on yelp and their quality of service lived up to the rave reviews.  Ashby is quick to respond, thorough, and really knows his stuff.  He is extremely straightforward, which I have to admit I was initially a little thrown by, but by the end of the process I grew to appreciate and really like!  All of my questions were answered and I felt like he really listened to and understood what I wanted and needed.  I also felt like he was working in my best interest.  For example, he applied for a loan in the amount of $1 more than we had asked for (literally $1) because it got us $500 more in lender credits at closing!  He was happy to offer advice when asked, but I always felt like I had ultimate control over the final decisions. Never thought a refinance could be pain-free. I went for a consultation to see if a refi was even doable and an hour later (about 6 p. m.; he stayed late), I was in the process of significantly lowering my interest rate with a new lender, thereby lowering my payments. ALSO saved money on my Homeowner's Insurance AND car insurance by going with Ashby's recommended Gooseneck. Of course it took a few weeks after that, with digital paperwork going back and forth, some phone calls, and some digging into my own (not perfect) records. Ashby is great!  A friend from work has used Ashby when he bought his house and insisted I wouldn't find better rates or a better mortgage broker.  I was skeptic but my co-worker was right.  Ashby definitely had the best rates, and the final amount was less that the initial estimate.   And his service was even better than the rates.  He was extremely responsive with both calls, emails and txts.  Ashby is incredibly knowledge on the process and was there to help with some caveats that came up.  I will call Ashby again when I buy another house. I have completed three house purchases and two refinances with Ashby at Highlander Mortgage and I couldn't be happier. I have also recommended him to friends who were equally pleased with the results. Ashby handles everything you would expect from a broker and makes it as easy as possible for the buyer. I had previously used two other brokers, so, I have a reference of comparison. He is very friendly and great to work with. Another thing I like about Ashby is that he is a numbers guy at heart. Ashby will give you options and suggest which ones will work best for different situations. Since I like to know all the details, he has always worked them out with me so I felt confident in my decision. At my last closing the realtor said that she was so impressed with Ashby that she added him to her preferred list of brokers. After my last home purchase, I found out that the land behind my house was going up for sale and there was already an offer. I'm a first time home buyer and I was looking for someone that can educate me in the home buying and loan process. I was referred to Highlander by a friend so I gave them a shot. Wow, I'm glad I did.  I got GFE's from Box, USAA, Prime Lending and American Capital. Not only did Highlander had the best GFE, their service was absolutely amazing.  Customer support and service is very important to me.  I work for a tech company and our support and sales team are the best in the industry. We are the only one with the JD Power and Associates Award for support.  I would compare working with him better than ours!  If you are looking for a mortgage broker, look no further. Find someone local and avoid the larger companies. They are too slow. I was on a time crunch as I was going to Taiwan and the Philippines for vacation. I just happen to find a house I wanted in this hot Austin market and needed to move fast. He was willing to get things done in 2 weeks before my month long vacation.  I decided just to wait until I got back.  Working with Ashby and his team made this an extremely smooth experience.  Ashby's response time is hands down awesome!  Again, I would get a local loan application team due to this hot Austin market.
