I was injured when I stopped at a light in the turn lane in my Miata. I was rear ended by a teen driver going about 40 mph. I spent a lot of time trying to recover and then shortly before the statute of limitations ran out my family convinced me I was never going to get back to 100% and I needed to get help with my medical bills. I called Abrahamson & Uiterwyk and was connected to an attorney who asked me some questions and said he'd call in the morning. First thing the next morning he called and said they were sending someone to my home about 50 miles from their office to interview me that day which they did. Then they looked at the detail and discovered the person who hit me and got a ticket only had $10,000 of insurance. The car was basically totalled and sold for not much. My insurance paid for that. Clearly unless I wanted to sue the people for assets I couldn't get much. Justin Pimenta and his assistant Holly were in regular touch with me. Justin presented me with the limited options which I decided was to try to get as much of the $10,000 as possible to pay them per our agreement and to pay me for my many out of pocket primarily medical expenses. Things proceeded quickly and before the end of this year I received a call the firm saying they had reached a settlement with the other person's insurance company for close to $10,000. They paid me in accordance with the terms of my agreement with them and I got a few thousand dollars. The moral of the story is make sure you have protection from uninsured motorists. I have permanent injuries I'll never recover from but I can manage and I'm the one without adequate insurance. I always thought I just had to buy coverage for myself but as it turns out I should have been paying for the people who hit me as well. It doesn't seem right or fair but Abrahamson & Uiterwyk made the very best of it for me and I am truly appreciative that they even took the case.
