‘19 Certificate of Excellence

I have been teaching Pilates for nearly 19 years but only struck out with my business in 2008. Since that time i have made it my mission to offer high quality affordable Pilates which really enables you to improve your strength, body alignment, posture, mobility and stamina. I aim for the class to be able to meet your body where it is now, and help it to be free of aches and pains, perform better, remain injury free or rehab from an injury. From January 2023 I offer evening Pilates classes in 2 community locations: Moortown/Wigton Moor in North/North East Leeds, Crossgates over in East Leeds and Meanwood in North Leeds The classes are variously, Beginners, Improvers and Intermediate Pilates, and Pilates for Men I run day time classes for the Over 60s in Moor Allerton, North Leeds At the little home studio in LS8 (kind of in-between Chapel Allerton, Chapeltown and Oakwood) I offer: 1:1 tuition, teaching Matwork Pilates and also use the large apparatus: Reformer, Wunda Chair and Spine Corrector. If you are wondering what on earth the Pilates Reformer is, then check out the video clip below - Small group Pilates - for two - so Pilates with Friends & Family! - Specialist Back Care Sessions aimed at people with back injuries and issues. These are for just 2 people and are bespoke, gentle, rehab orientated sessions, and are also taught in the LS8 studio - Specialist classes to help address Pelvic Floor dysfunction I run small group Pelvic Floor classes on Zoom and still teach a live online Pilates class on Zoom every week and can teach 1;1 on Zoom if you need or prefer that.

What do you love most about your job?

I enjoy helping people to move more and to move better. It is very satisfying to watch people get stronger and have more stamina and seeing them being pleased with their own efforts and achievements. It is a privilege to be allowed to help people in this way, and I don't take this lightly.
I'm also fortunate that Pilates keep me flexible and strong!

What inspired you to start your own business?

Going back to my old job after having my 2nd child and finding that I was unwanted! It as miserable, so I thought, "what on earth can I do instead"
I already taught Pilates on the side, so to speak, so I trained as a gym instructor and quit admin to teach Pilates, Cardio classes and work in a gym. Gradually over the years I have specialised more and more in Pilates although I keep my hand in with a bit of BLT, HiiT.
I am inspired to keep going because of the amazing benefits that we can get from regularly doing Pilates and this applies to so many different kinds of people, regardless of ages, fitness level, degree of injury or whether or not you have ever done a day of exercise ever in your life!

Why should our clients choose you?

I have 19 years of experience teaching Pilates. I'm still learning, discovering and developing, but it's a good start.
I have three great colleagues who are fabulous teachers and about whom I constantly hear great feedback.
We are competitively priced. We try our utmost to offer Pilates at a price that is affordable to as many people as possible.
Choose us if you want to move more and move better, if you want to do a form of regular exercise which will help to alleviate aches and pains, help you to improve your posture, give you more strength and flexibility.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes. Since March 2020 I , like so many other people have moved onto Zoom. I offer Zoom classes and Zoom based 1:1 sessions. My booking system is fully integrated with Zoom

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Before the latest Lockdown I adhered to the Government guidelines regarding social distancing and cleanliness. We had live classes with a 2m x 2m space around each participant, gaps in between classes for air flow, use of sanitiser, everyone bringing their own equipment/mats etc
Here is my policy

Regarding my home studio, it has its own entrance in the house and its own bathroom. It is big enough for me to teach safely but I have had to reduce the Back Care Sessions and Small Group Work to just 2 people and not 3 any more. Again, I have a policy regarding mask wearing, cleanliness and the timing of sessions

Absolutely loved Garden Pilates with Claire last year. She lives in a picturesque and peaceful location which was perfect. Fantastic session in the sunshine/outdoors, a fun quiz and incredibly tasty treats and tea. A really perfect Saturday chill out :) bring on this years!

I had been attending Claire's pilates classes for just over a year when I fell pregnant. Having known Claire had prenatal and postnatal qualifications in fitness I was keen to continue with my pilates journey. Claire is incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, explaining how each move or exercise will help with pregnancy and even labour! As my pregnancy develops, Claire has adapted the exercises to ensure I get full benefit and that both baby and myself are safe. The use of different equipment makes each week fresh and interesting. I would absolutely recommend Claire to any expectant or new mum. I know I will be continuing with my pilates journey with Claire's help after the arrival of my baby.

I started pre-natal Pilates with Claire once in my second trimester of pregnancy, and have absolutely loved her class each week. Throughout my pregnancy I have had various aches and pains and Pilates has been brilliant in helping relieve these, and in building up my core and pelvic floor strength. I really love the use of different apparatus and each week feels fresh and interesting. Claire is extremely knowledgable in explaining the exercises she chooses and why they are particularly useful for expectant mothers. She has also adapted the exercises we do to suit the stage of pregnancy we are at, so it feels very safe and supported. Her relaxed and calm manner and the atmosphere she creates in the classes are a weekly moment of peace and serenity that I really treasure! I’m very much looking forward to starting her post-natal practice and continuing my Pilates journey with Claire.
