What do you love most about your job?

Helping people achieve levels of fitness they never knew they could achieve and helping people lose weight with eating real food and not fad diets.

What inspired you to start your own business?

My daughter has Cystic Fibrosis and she is my inspiration for everything, if my fitness endeavours motivates anyone else, above and beyond those who I love dearly, then it must be a good thing.

Personally after a back injury I lost 7 stone in 1 year, I've kept it off now for 6 years, having travelled that journey myself, I know what it's like and what you go through, it is a massive benefit to be able to coach from experience. Now I enjoy Ironman triathlons, it's a way of life, allows me to keep fit and to educate and coach others. Believe in yourself, anything is possible.

Primarily my athletes are spread all over the country, I like to conduct a 1-2-1 assessment to establish your Swim, Bike, Run styles and form assisted by the INCUS Nova device. This industry leading device gives feedback to athletes of ALL levels.

Then, each Sunday, I design your training for the following week. I review what you've done, take into consideration your availability for the coming week, and design a bespoke training plan with all aspects considered. I also have local athletes who I work with on 1-2-1 sessions each week, the frequency is down to you.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

All 1-2-1 sessions are conducted with athletes safety as an overriding factor. Current temperature taken, a conversation as to experiencing any signs or symptoms of feeling unwell, and a sensible decision for all to consider proceeding. Resting Heart Rate being a primary observation to explore if the body is working overtime to fight any internal virus etc.
Basal Heart Rate should be taken on any day where a 1-2-1 session is scheduled.

I am so pleased that I found Jon and that he agreed to coach me even though I live in Germany and am not actually planning to compete. Jon is a real expert in the field but also super flexible and adapts his coaching style and plan to my needs. II thought I was condemned to just getting by, and being on a never ending plateau: I had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which for me means that my energy is limited and there’s always a risk of days or weeks of fatigue if I overdo it. But Jon found a way to push me without pushing me, if that makes sense, and I can see improvements in my technique, speed, and even joy I feel while exercising! I don’t run anymore, so Jon is looking at my swimming and cycling technique and sets, helping me understand the science behind it as well as making sure I am doing sets that improve my metrics, with positive results through the bank! I would never have thought that non-competitive exercise can be that much fun!

A really useful and enjoyable one-off session. The feedback afterwards with example videos really helped me visualise what my stroke looks like (over rotation and over extension) and where I am trying to get to. Having Alan pick out a couple of main areas for improvement, provide some dry and wet drills and then coach the final stroke helped at the time but I am perhaps not so good at implementing verbal instructions in once in the pool. The video examples really worked for me to help me visualise both what I am doing and what I should be aiming for. Now for some practice! Thank you Alan

Alan took time to explain the swimming basics and the overall aim to reduce drag and increase propulsion before we entered the water. He worked with each athlete individually and wasn't seeking to 'fix faults' but rather make us as efficient as we could be given our particular body type and flexibility. Drills were carefully scaffolded to ensure we understood and were able to self-evaluate. Use of video helped us critique our own performance. We ended with two key points to take away and work on. A well paced session that was individually tailored to our needs and challenged us accordingly. Highly recommend for anyone looking to increase their swimming efficiency.
