I run friendly weekly yoga classes for all experiences, encouraging everyone to work at their own level. I take one-to-one sessions for people who are too busy to attend classes, prefer to do yoga in their own home or workspace, or who want an approach for their individual needs. My teaching focuses on developing an awareness of body and mind through postures, exercises, breathing techniques and guided meditations. We hold postures to increase the stretch from muscles through ligaments, tendons and fascia to bring space and openness, release tensions and allow energy to flow more effectively. We build strength, stamina and resilience through held standing postures or leg and arm balances, flexibility through postures such as lunges, twists, standing forward bends. The spine is stretched and helped to release tension through lying twists, standing forward bends, rocking and strengthened directly through diagonal stretches and indirectly through addressing the hip flexors, hamstrings, quadriceps and abdominals. Breathing techniques help to calm the mind and bring awareness to the rhythm of the breath, while also bringing us into the present moment and away from repetitive thought patterns. Short guided meditations bring our awareness within to how the mind reacts, to our inner self - to experience what it is to be 'me' and simply 'be' rather than always 'doing'. I am currently interested in how patterns of energy can affect our health, and how simple, easy to learn exercises can balance energies so we can bring ourselves out of that dip in the afternoon and have enough energy for all the tasks and activities we want to do in our day.
