What services can Handymen help with?

Some of the common services your handyman can help with include:

  • Building and construction
  • Painting and decorating
  • Moving heavy items like upholstery and furniture
  • Changing light bulbs and light fixtures
  • Clearing and maintaining rooms or gardens
  • Repairing and maintaining tools and equipment
  • Installing windows and doors
  • How do I choose the best Handyman?

There are several factors worth considering when choosing your handyman. These include:

    • Reputation - Depending on the scale of maintenance or size of repair, compile a list of up to three or four reputable tradesman companies online to compare what each has to offer. Rather than looking at websites, focus on customer feedback and reviews which you can see on their Bark profile page.

    • Membership - Check to see if the company is a member of any association such The Handyman Association and The UK Guild of Handymen.

    • Quotations - Make sure to ask for multiple written quotations as opposed to hiring the first handyman that you get in touch with. Check to see if the company has public liability insurance.

    • Photos - Find handymen that can prove their work with success stories, projects, and real photos. Have a look at their previous projects and ask for details about the actual steps, the time they took, and costs.

    • Specialisms - Look for an experienced handyman that specialises in residential or commercial properties depending on your needs.

    • Appointments - Your handyman service professional should provide you with a specific and confirmed appointment and be clear about when the job will start and finish.

    • Tools - Professionals always bring their own tools and materials. A good handyman would never ask you to supply your own.

    • Charging - A reputable handyman service should only charge you while your handyman is working for you. You should not have to pay a fee to cover travel, for example. Your handyman should respect your home and work both efficiently and carefully. They should also clean up after the maintenance job is completed.

You can be confident that any of the Bark local handymen listed will give you a reliable and professional service.

How do I check my Handyman's credentials?

There is no formal training required to be a handyman. Although they usually have experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment as well as a basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems. It is also worth looking out for City & Guilds, BTEC, and NVQ qualifications in related fields.

Before you choose a handyman or handywoman, make sure that you read their customer testimonials and reviews on their website or Bark profile.

What do you love most about your job?

I love nothing more than seeing the gratitude on peoples faces when the work is completed. Many of the people I help are much older people who are no longer able to tend the garden the way they used to. For them, to have access to their much loved garden just to be able to sit and relax like they once did if a life changing experience. That is why I do it in the worst weather - It makes someone's day better.

What inspired you to start your own business?

A friend came to me in desperate need of help to have his father's garden maintained. I didn't want to do it at first but because I work on a golf course and have a pretty high standard, he came to me for help. His father is 80yrs old and just wanted to walk in the garden to get fresh air. I helped him out in the end because I could see how much of a difference it would make to his father. I have been doing it since.

Why should our clients choose you?

Anybody can cut your cut grass but not everybody is reliable & trust worthy. In the same breath not everybody will price you correctly and will exploit your weakness. My customers ask me to come back and many are repeat customers and I some leave their properties open for me to come in an finish the work. You don't trust people like this if you're not good, reliable or trustworthy.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

No, but I can provide you a quote after you send me photo's/ video for the garden.
