Train like a pro

Your fitness regime

With a personal trainer, sessions are tailored entirely to you. You can choose which areas of fitness you want to focus on, where you train, for how long and whether you train individually or in a small group. Hiring a personal trainer brings benefits in terms of quality of sessions, as well as practical convenience. Professional trainers create bespoke training plans to fit your level of fitness and your end goals. As well as this, professional PTs are adaptable. They can amend your training plan and targets according to your progress and any injuries that crop up along the way. They also provide unbiased, professional and supportive feedback, helping you to identify your strengths and weaknesses and any areas you can improve on. Your brain might tell you to keep going for longer than is safe or stop before you’ve got the most out of your session. A professional fitness coach knows how far to push you.

A muscle never forgets

When it comes to achieving your full fitness potential, it’s important that you don’t get stuck in a rutf. Reaching your peak fitness is all about balancing a respect of your limits with hard work and pushing boundaries. New exercises enable you to engage muscles you may have neglected in the past. Switching things up in the gym also provides significant psychological benefits.

Stuck on the treadmill

A personal trainer can show you new exercises, pieces of equipment, and how you can use these to achieve your targets more quickly. This makes training sessions more interesting and enjoyable. Varied exercises and choice of equipment available helps with motivation. So you can avoid muscle strain and injury through overuse, enabling you to overcome ‘muscle memory’.

Hear from
a professional

Do you enjoy your job?

I feel very lucky to genuinely love my job. Being a personal trainer combines my enthusiasm for health, fitness and nutrition in a role which allows me to help people. I’ve always been an active person, so the fact it involves minimal office time and paperwork is another serious perk for me personally. My job also allows me to get out and about. I live in Ruddington but have a van to transport me and my equipment to and from clients. So I can get to pretty much anywhere in Nottingham.

What qualifications have you achieved?

To qualify as a personal trainer, I took my Level 3 Personal Trainer Course here in Nottingham. Before that I got my certificates to instruct cycling, body pump classes, and pilates while I was at university in Leeds. I’ve registered for RSPH’s Advanced diploma in nutrition and weight management which I’m starting this summer. I’m a member of The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs), and the National Register of Personal Trainers (NRPT).

Do you specialise in any sports?

I don’t specialise in any sports, but a number of my clients come to me for strength and conditioning. I also advise on injury prevention for sports such as rugby, football and netball. When I’m not training or with clients, I compete at Kickboxing events. So I have a lot of personal interest and experience in this type of fitness training. I’ve also run four marathons and have a lot of experience training clients for these.
