Signing up for martial arts classes is a great idea for everyone as this will not only help you get fit but also teach you how to defend yourself in case of an emergency. There are plenty of self-defense tools today, but your body is the only one you can rely on in any situation. Therefore, everyone should know how to use it to effectively disable an attacker. Training in any kind of martial arts will increase your strength and stamina and improve your general health greatly.
  • With martial arts classes you will be able to learn a great number of martial arts. The most popular classes are jiu jitsu, taekwondo, karate, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, kung fu, capoeira, kendo, muai thai, and tai chi. Each of these martial arts has its specific strengths, so you’ll need to do a bit of research to decide which class suits you best. Consult a professional martial arts trainer and your doctor to make the right decision.
  • Bark can put you in touch with suppliers offering a variety of mixed martial arts classes and specialized self-defense courses. You can try these groups if you don’t want to focus on a single type of martial arts. Mixed classes are extremely versatile, so you’ll need to talk to each trainer individually to find out their approach.
  • Martial arts classes are great, but you can enhance your physical training by complementing them with other types of exercise. Bark can help you find swimming and yoga classes as well as personal trainers who can develop a personalized training and nutrition program that will allow you to achieve your fitness goals.

What do you love most about your job?

The profound impact it has on people's lives. It's incredibly rewarding to witness the positive transformations that occur in my students, both physically and mentally, as they progress in their training.

First and foremost, I love seeing my students become more confident in themselves. Martial arts instil a sense of self-assuredness that extends beyond the dojo or training mat. It's fulfilling to watch individuals who may have started with doubts and insecurities gain the confidence to face challenges in their daily lives.

Another aspect I cherish is the sense of discipline and focus that martial arts instil. Teaching my students to set goals, work diligently to achieve them, and stay dedicated to their training is not only valuable in martial arts but also applicable to any aspect of life. These lessons in discipline and perseverance often lead to success in other endeavours.

Moreover, martial arts fosters a strong sense of community. The bonds formed between students and instructors are like those of a close-knit family. Watching these connections develop and witnessing the support and camaraderie among my students is truly heartwarming.

Lastly, the artistry and beauty of martial arts techniques themselves are a constant source of inspiration for me. The fluid movements, precision, and grace that can be achieved through years of practice are awe-inspiring. I find immense joy in sharing the beauty of martial arts with my students and helping them unlock their own potential.

In summary, what I love most about my job as a martial arts instructor is the opportunity to empower individuals, help them grow, and witness the positive changes that martial arts bring to their lives. It's a privilege to be a part of their journey toward self-improvement, confidence, discipline, and personal growth.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Passion for Martial Arts: My deep love for martial arts began at a young age. I've always been fascinated by the physical and mental aspects of martial arts, as well as its rich history and philosophy. This passion fueled my desire to make martial arts a central part of my life.

Teaching and Empowering Others: I found immense satisfaction in helping others learn and grow through martial arts. Witnessing the positive impact it had on my students, not just in terms of physical fitness but also in building confidence, discipline, and self-respect, inspired me to want to do more. Starting my own business allowed me to tailor my teaching methods and curriculum to best serve my students.

Freedom and Creativity: Owning my own martial arts studio provided me with the freedom to create a unique and supportive learning environment. I could set my own schedule, design specialized programs, and cultivate a positive culture within the school. This creative control allowed me to better cater to the needs of my students.

Entrepreneurial Spirit: I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to run my own enterprise. The idea of building a martial arts business from the ground up, shaping its identity, and contributing to the local community was incredibly appealing to me.

Community Building: Martial arts is not just about individual growth; it's also about building a sense of community. I wanted to create a space where people from all walks of life could come together, form lasting friendships, and support each other in their martial arts journeys. This sense of community is something I deeply value and wanted to foster.

Personal Growth: Running a martial arts business is a continuous journey of personal growth and development. It challenges me to refine my skills, adapt to changing circumstances, and learn about various aspects of business management. This constant evolution is both inspiring and rewarding.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I'm sorry, but I cannot provide my martial arts services online or remotely. My teaching style is rooted in physical training, hands-on instruction, and real-time feedback, which cannot be effectively conveyed through digital means. Martial arts require in-person interaction to ensure the safety and proper execution of techniques, as well as to provide personalized guidance to each student. If you're interested in learning martial arts, I strongly recommend finding a local martial arts school or instructor who can offer in-person training.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

My business has opened after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lon is a great teacher and all round good guy. He's got a really insightful and patient teaching style so I've learnt a lot in a short space of time, would definitely recommend for boxing/fitness classes!

Very good club to train traditional Aikido, Iwama style. Combine Yoga warm up, weapons and empty hand techniques. Best of all, the club follow the best Sensei Daniel Toutain in this generation in my opinion, a direct student of Morihiro Saito. We are very lucky to follow this tradition Aikido lineage, and there will be no better time to train then present time. Training in a relaxing atmosphere, no pressure and at your own pace.

It has been really fun! Learning aikido as a beginner has been an enjoyable experience. It has improved my flexibility and agility, especially with doing yoga before training on mats. The instructor is very good and very patient. The other members are very friendly. Would highly recommend!!
