After my 20 year caterer decided three weeks before Christmas not to cater on Christmas Day any more…I panicked, I didn’t know any other caterers. So I went online and did some research. I contacted a few caterers. The caterer that contacted me the quickest was Chef Irving of Sueno Alegre. Since I didn’t know the others either, I decided that since he was the first, I would make the call back to him first.
Not only was Chef Irving willing to provide a Christmas dinner for 22 family members, but he was so nice to talk to, calmed my nerves and gave me the impression that my family Christmas was in good hands. I was sold! He fixed a dinner that I requested (our traditional Christmas dinner with all the fixings). Prior to Christmas, he was always quick to respond if I had a question or a request.
On Christmas Day, he was prompt and had everything he had promised. He worked quickly to set up and the shaffing dishes he brought looked classy. The food smelled delicious! As far as how everything tasted, yummy! The prime rib was cooked perfectly. The green beans were cooked al dente with a touch of spice…very good. Great mashed potatoes, perfectly mashed. The pasta dish was awesome, light and tasty and not too creamy at all. The turkey was very good too but my only complaint was there wasn’t enough. The white meat was the first to go and when my husband and I served ourselves (we were last), there was only the two turkey drum sticks left. But all in all. I would give Chef Irving an A, five stars for his professionalism, his fee (very reasonable), his service, presentation, the quality of the food and of course the taste! Chef Irving saved my Christmas!!
I will definitely call him again for other events!

Salt and Fire catered my Parents 50th Anniversary dinner, and from start to finish the experience was top-shelf. Due to some complications we had to postpone the original date, but they were flexible understanding and professional in getting it rescheduled. Tina(business manager for Salt and Fire) was courteous, responsive and a pleasure to work with! Chef B King's execution of all the dishes(from flavor down to presentation), was flawless! The Cave Prime Steak started in 2020 doing only small private dinners during COVID while everybody’s favorite restaurant was shut down. The overall experience with El Michoacano Botanero was EXTRAORDINARY. Not only was there excellent customer service but there was eye for details. The food tasted delicious, the tacos were finger licking good. Since the meat was full of flavor and well cooked. The rice and beans were well prepared and melted in your mouth. I've been working in the restaurant industry for 25 years. I know the ins and outs of this business; the work and dedication it takes to create long-lasting memories when guests trust you with their dining experience.
Seeing guests struggling with the decision about their meal even after I had answered all their questions was painful. So, most of the time I would take the menus away and ask them 3 simple questions:
- Do you have any food allergies?
- Do you have any dietary restrictions?
- What are you in the mood for today?
With that information, the chef and I would create a 3 or 4 course meal for the guests. With every course that landed in front of them, I would explain the dish in colorful detail.
To see how happy those guests were each time, I figured there was a business model to be created from that. And that's how Surprise Me Kitchen came to exist - the "no menu" experience that might just become the leading model for dining in the the future.
People should choose are service because we're different (yes, I get how cliche that sounds) but here's the thing.
With our "no menu" concept, our mission is founded on 2 core life principles:
* Trust: because we are asking the guests to trust us with their dining experience based on the information they give us. Think of it as the trust game, where you fall back and hope that someone catches you before you hit the ground. That's our play there. Trust us to deliver a stellar dining experience and we won't let your expectations hit the ground.
* Freedom: because we believe the restaurant industry and the dining experience is ripe for reinvention. And asking guests to select limited options on a menu in this day and age is unfair. We change that.
