How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

I provide free consultations to anyone interested in working with me. This enables me, not only to find out about the specifics of any fitness or health and well-being goals they may have, but also about what the client likes, dislikes, lifestyle and any medical conditions. This helps ensure that the personalised plan I create will be what they need, what is appropriate for them and is something they will enjoy.

What do you love most about your job?

I do love my job. There's nothing better than seeing someone achieve their goals and achieve things that can last a lifetime. Whether it's helping someone run their first marathon, reduce or come off long standing medication for conditions such as back pain, high blood pressure, anxiety and depression, help them be able to sleep through the night without waking up in pain, losing weight they have struggled with for most of their life and having the toolkit to be able to keep it off yet still enjoy life, help prevent medical conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes or build self-confidence, it makes each day a pleasure and it's a privilege to be a part of that.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I decided that being a Personal Trainer was something I really wanted to do and had a passion to help people. Once that decision was made, starting my own business was the natural next step to ensure I could provide the service I wanted to. It was a big step to move from employment but a step that I am pleased I made back in 2009.

Why should our clients choose you?

Clients should choose a Personal Trainer that is the best fit for them. Check qualifications cover what you want to achieve, we're not all the same and I am happy to talk to you about any of mine. My free consultations also allow clients to see if they would like to work with me as a person, I think a client should feel comfortable with their Trainer, trust them and also feel that they'll enjoy working with them. I'm patient, supportive, non-judgemental, compassionate and like sessions to be fun and effective.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I provide sessions via video calls online or even video calls on mobile phones. The sessions are all 1-2-1 and you get all the support and services that anyone seeing me in person would get, the only real difference is that I am on your phone or laptop etc rather than in the room with you.

Personal Trainers FAQs

It depends on your end goal. If you’re training for a marathon, you might work out nearly every day of the week. If you’re a low-level beginner, a minimum of three times a week is enough to make a noticeable impact. No matter what you’re working out for, everyone needs rest and recovery days. Without them, your muscles won’t be able to recuperate and grow strong, so remember to factor in some down-time, too!

Pretty much anywhere! The great thing about personal training is that it’s flexible - as long as you have the necessary equipment, you and your instructor can decide to have your sessions from the gym, your home, the park, or even your office if you want to!

Yes! First of all, they will chat with you about your goals, and discuss the best way to achieve them. They should also ask you to fill in a consent form to check that you don’t have any pre-existing health conditions that could impact your exercise. They’ll also carry out a health assessment to get a better idea of your current fitness level, tailoring your workout plan around that.

It's tricky to say, as personal training sessions vary significantly depending on what you want to achieve and the type of workout. Generally, one personal training session tends to last forty-five minutes to one hour. It will start with a gentle warm-up, followed by the nitty-gritty of the actual workout, with stretches to end the session. Remember, warming up and stretching is essential for injury prevention - it’s just as important as the main part of the workout!

A personal trainer needs to be clued up on all aspects of fitness, from the most effective exercise techniques to nutrition and human anatomy- that’s a lot of responsibility! You need to make sure your professional is suitably qualified for the job. After all, you shouldn’t cut corners when it comes to investing in your health. Make sure your trainer has the minimum qualifications required to practice. In the UK, this is the Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification.

Absolutely! Online personal training has become increasingly popular as more people are looking to maintain their fitness during lockdowns and gyms closing. As long as you and your personal trainer have a strong internet connection and a device to stream on like a laptop, tablet or smartphone, there's no reason why your session can't be delivered remotely.
