Laying down the lawn

A perfect green

Artificial grass is a fantastic way to maintain your garden. Keeping on top of your lawn can be tricky, especially with the forces of nature making your job even harder. With an artificial lawn, you can keep your garden looking pristine the whole year-round. Thankfully, finding the right artificial lawn installation specialist isn’t difficult - Bark can help you get free quotes in a matter of minutes.

The cost to convert

The cost of installing artificial grass can vary depending on a variety of factors. Here at Bark, we have a number of artificial grass specialists that offer services suitable for any budget.

It is also worth noting that patches of grass that are shaped uniquely (or lawns with curves) may demand a premium - this is because of off-cuts discarded when shaping the grass. Smaller gardens can also be more expensive.

Picking a winner

So what should you look for when picking someone to install your artificial lawn? Thankfully, Bark makes it easy to compare professionals and get quotes quickly and easily. You can start the hiring process by narrowing down your choices to a few favourites. However, although getting a quote is simple, there is a lot more than price to think about.

Some questions you may want to ask when you get in touch with your artificial grass specialist are –

  • Do you have a website/references? – For proof of the quality of their work
  • How will you install the grass? – There are various ways to install artificial grass. Your specialist should be able to talk you through them
  • How long will the job take? – It’s always wise to know how long your project will last
  • Do you provide a guarantee? – This is good for peace of mind

These are good starting points when it comes to hiring your artificial lawn installer. Taking time to consider your needs can help you to make the right choice.

Synthetic perks

Natural lawns look great when maintained correctly, but not tending to them can have a big impact on the appearance of your garden. Installing artificial grass provides some handy benefits that can save you time and money.

Some of these perks include not having to weed or mow the lawn – plus durability and longevity. Artificial grass is also very easy to clean. It is also perfect for areas that would otherwise be impractical to cover, including balconies and decking.

The right grass for you

The nature of your grass will depend on what your needs are. Are you looking for an entire artificial grass garden, or just an embellishment for your balcony? Is the grass often used or purely decorative? Of course, your budget will come into play, too. Taking these factors into consideration will make getting the right turf quality (and picking the right professional) easier.

Colour

The colour of your artificial grass depends on the variations in the yarn. A natural appearance is achieved by mixing threads of green with brown roots – and more – to emulate the look of real grass. Less realistic combinations are available for specific applications (like bowling greens, for example). The shade and intensity of the colour is down to you.

Base

As well as your green, the grass base is something else you should think about. The sub-base is the name for the materials used as the foundation for your artificial grass. This will usually be made from MOT Type 1 or stone chippings. Sand in-fills can also be used. These are somewhat cheaper but have to be topped up periodically.

Density

Your priority when picking artificial grass will be density. Density is defined by how many blades of grass are present in each square inch. These blades are woven into a strong base layer, and the more of them present, the thicker your grass will be. Understandably, artificial grass with more density has a softer, more quality feel. It also lasts the longest. Thinner grass also has its benefits – this grass is good for areas that receive little tread, and is cheap to boot.

Pile

The height of your pile – how tall the blades of grass are – determine the aesthetic quality of your artificial lawn. Medium and long piles are more realistic looking but slightly less comfortable. Short piles are perfect grass for recreation, and also make for a well-kept green.

What do you love most about your job?

Working within the landscaping industry, especially artificial grass. Unlike the building game, the finished article is normally just around the corner, which is why we refer to the Gorilla grass as carpet! As soon as that product is rolled out, the fuzzy feeling of a newly laid bedroom underfoot is pretty much instant, so there are far more happy home owners and smiling faces in a week than most outdoor trades and every garden is different.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Love being in control and being able to push the button and help others, and once you've built a great team (not easy,) the shackles are off and you can inspire and influence others and work to live.

Why should our clients choose you?

We have been associated with the synthetic turf industry for 10 years and feel we are a great brand, but also lean and keen on pricing, with some of the most experienced fitters in the South West and M4 corridor. That is why we have plenty of prestigious projects under our belt e.g. Bristol City FC, Cheltenham Races BT Champions League, Principality Stadium , Adrian Flux and many local authorities in South Wales, Bristol, Cheltenham, Swindon etc

I’ve never know tradesmen to have such an amazing customer focus and work ethic in Scotland. Tom many are lazy, lackadaisical and lack customer / communication skills. But not Scott and Craig, they were fantastic!! The initial job they did for my was to relay an artificial grass lawn after a storm ripped it up. I was impressed so I asked them to repoint & clean my patio. Again a great job. Next up was to lay a pebble covered border right round our perimeter fence at the back of the house, some 70m length by 1.5m deep. Very happy with the outcome of this too. So much so I asked the guys to build a putting green for me. Just got back from hols to see what they’ve done and I’m absolutely delighted! All of the jobs were fairly priced and were held at the price quoted even though I think a little bit more labour was required than first estimated. I would not hesitate to recommend Infinity. They do what they say they are going to do and do it when they say they are going to do it. A breath of fresh air compared to most tradesmen in my experience.
