Find a Pet Sitter near you

If you own a pet then you’ll know that they are just as much a part of the family as the humans are. But as much as we love our pets, it’s not always possible to be with them 24/7.

You may be going on holiday or even have an unexpected emergency to deal with. Ensuring your animal’s welfare is key, which is why they cannot be left alone for long periods.

A pet sitter will make sure your animal is fed, watered, walked (if applicable) and well taken care of until you get back. They will also make sure your pet gets plenty of attention, which will give you peace of mind as an owner and reduce any stress for your animal.

If you need a pet sitter, then we’ll connect you with the best local professionals who will take good care of your furry friend.

Finding your perfect pet sitter

Why get a Pet Sitter?

When it comes to who can watch your pet while you’re away, you might have a few options or none at all. So who can you trust?

A pet sitter is a dedicated professional who not only can look after your pet but also wants to do it, which can make all the difference. After all, it can be distressing for an animal to be left alone, especially if they are in unfamiliar surroundings. A pet sitter will know to put them at ease, and compared to a kennel will be able to give them much more individual attention.

Pet sitters can also work on a daily basis to occupy your animal while you’re at work.

Different types of Pet Sitters

No two pet sitting jobs are the same. You may only require your pet to be cared for while you’re at work, or you may need your animal to be looked after for an extended period while you’re away. Here’s what to look out for.

  • Hourly - The majority of pet sitters will charge by the hour. If you don’t require your pet to be taken care of overnight, then an hourly sitter is ideal.
  • Daily - Day rates for pet sitting apply in places such as doggy daycare centres. You’ll be charged a fixed fee, which may also include picking up and dropping your pet off.
  • Overnight - Heading away? Your pet will need overnight care which can be booked over a weekend or longer.
  • Long Term - Unfortunately, some circumstances such as illness or a house move mean your pets require external care. A long term pet sitter can be booked for as long as you need, though there may be less availability than an hourly sitter.

How to check a Pet Sitter’s credentials

There are no specific credentials a pet sitter needs to have. Though, look out for how long they have worked as a pet sitter and if they know things such as animal first aid.

Can I get a Pet Sitter online?

Absolutely! Though as pet sitting takes place in person, it’s still good to meet with them first before handing your pet over.

How much does a Pet Sitter cost?

Pet sitters are free to set their own rates so costs will vary depending on how long you are going away for and the services they can provide.

What to look for in a Pet Sitter

When leaving a much-loved member of your family with someone else, first and foremost they should be trustworthy. Pet sitters should be experienced in handling animals, and may also have animal care qualifications. Be sure to check their experience and reviews before you hire them.

What do you love most about your job?

Working as a pet sitter means I get to spend all my time working with my favourite animals. Dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, gerbils, snakes, lizards, even tarantulas, I love them all! I also know how difficult it can be as a pet owner to enjoy things such as holidays or getting away for the weekend, so being able to give that option to people is very satisfying.

Are there any particular animals that you specialise in?

I am proficient in caring for many different species, most commonly dogs and cats, but also reptiles. When it comes to dog sitting, I have extensive experience in caring for various different breeds – from Labradors and German Shepherds to Boston terriers and chihuahuas. Whether you would prefer me to perform daily house visits for you or if you want to leave your pet with me, I’m set up to cater to your needs.

Why should clients choose you?

I have a great number of repeat clients who use my services regularly and (hopefully) that speaks for itself. I offer a diverse level of flexibility in what I can provide. Whether you need someone to look after a puppy for a few hours or care for your cat for a two-week period, I can do it. It’s also incredibly helpful to have a sitter looking after your animal during times such as moving house – one less thing to worry about! I am experienced in looking after more specialised pets such as snakes and turtles which can require bespoke care. My workspace is set up with the care of different animals in mind, so you can rest assured in the quality of their care, particularly if your pets are staying with me.

I can only give Hannah and Dave 5 stars. The care and attention to Tipsy's individual needs and the love they have for dogs in general is outsanding. Tipsy actually gets excited to visit and she has some separation anxiety due to being a lockdown dog and partner working from home. Tipsy settled instantly with Hannah and Dave and their lovely dog Lilly. Their pricing is also very fair and affordable. I would 100% recommend them to anyone without a second thought.

Paul was fantastic with Sunny! He looked after our dog while we were away for our wedding and honeymoon. His communication was great and he always waited for us to message first so he wasn't interrupting but replied quickly with updates and photos. I have never felt more relaxed with someone looking after Sunny, we will definitely hire Paul again! Plus Sunny adored him!
