It takes courage to seek growth, courage to even consider change. It took me nearly 46 years and a cancer diagnosis to take the step you have taken today. I understand how hard it can be.  All of the "what ifs" I lived with for so long: what if I am just broken? What if this is just the way it is? What if that good life I see other people living just isn't something I get to have? I kept moving on, making the same choices over and over again, feeling stuck and exhausted and confused: Why am I broken? Why does it have to be this way? Why can't I have a different life? Why do I find myself in the same situations over and over again? Maybe, I thought, I could change if I had help? But, how do I trust someone not to judge me? How do I sit with myself and look at all of these things, choices, people, actions, decisions and not fall apart? So I just kept going, too overwhelmed to stop. What I needed was a place where I could feel safe when my only identifiable emotions were anxiety and dread. If I could feel safe, then maybe I could breathe, and if I could breathe I could exhale everything I was holding in my heart: abuse, trauma, dissociation, dysfunction, obsessions and compulsions and perfectionism. Process addictions, co-dependence, fear and anxiety and cancer and loss and back again. I have walked a long road and now, after making the same decision you face today, I am no longer afraid of what is ahead.  I am strong enough to look back and help others find their way, and just by being here in this space with me, I know that you are too. You're not alone. You don't have to stay where you are. You are welcome here . You are safe. We can move on together toward the life that is waiting for you on the other side of whatever stands in your way. Your wounds can become wisdom when you allow yourself to exhale. www.wounds2wisdom.care

What do you love most about your job?

I have heard the call to service my entire life. After 22 years of giving my heart as a nurse it was devastating to have that taken away. Of course, I know now that I was still being called, just in a new way. Connecting with other women and supporting them through their growth has become my passion!

What inspired you to start your own business?

In 2019 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I learned that I was also a carrier of the BRCA 1 gene mutation and after completing chemotherapy I elected to become a "previvor" of breast cancer. Two days after my final surgery, the world went into quarantine. Unable to return to work due to immune suppression, I had to rethink my future. I knew I wanted to help other women, through cancer, abuse, addiction, or even navigating the challenges of everyday living. I couldn't work in the hospital, but I could work from home. So I returned to school and after certifying as a CARC I began a woman run office for women. W2W (Wounds to Wisdom, Woman to Woman).
