Bob Does Taxes right for less. Bob Does Taxes for $99 for basic 1040 + 1 state return. Rates are usually about 40% less than store front tax services. I work from a home office so I can pass the savings on to you.. I am also a small practice that means every client receives my personal attention. I particularly enjoy working with small business clients since I have substantial experience there, but I have worked with many varied needs - basic family returns, filing for a deceased relative, assisting an innocent spouse and serving Americans living abroad. I've been an entrepreneur since my 20's, owning a successful small business for 20 years. Later, I spent 20 years in management with a another company. As I approached retirement from there I knew I would never retire to a rocking chair, so I began Bob Does Taxes. I understand and appreciate small business and get excited about sharing that experience with others.
My fees are lower than many you will see for a few reason:
1. I’m not a CPA. A CPA gets to charge much higher fees for their services, and they should for what they go through to get that certification. However, 90+ percent of small businesses do not need a CPA and it is an unnecessary added expense. I have a business degree from Liberty Univ. where I studied accounting and also a Paralegal certificate from Blackstone School of Law. I’ve been working with taxes in the corporate setting for over 30 years and been in private practice since 2011.
2. Many of the large tax firms rent first class retail stores year round for what amounts to a very seasonal business – 10 weeks from Jan to April. I work from a home office and don’t have all that overhead to support. That allows me to keep my fees reasonable.
3. The online services are good for people with simple tax returns – that is one or 2 W2s, and no special circumstances-they are convenient and inexpensive. However, if you have a business or more interesting personal taxes, heed the warning, “don’t try this at home.” Every year I get calls from people who need to have the mess cleaned up after they got letters from the IRS.
4. I use professional tax software and participate in the AFSP program with the IRS which means they monitor my annual continuing education.
