This was the first time I ever used a party planner. I even planned my own wedding, so I was apprehensive about hiring one for my husband’s retirement party. As a detailed oriented control freak, my friends thought I was crazy for hiring someone. But I wanted to be able to fully enjoy the day of the event and looking back, I am glad I had Ricki. Ahead of the event, there was a delicate dance between Ricki and me, and she perceptively relinquished control of items she normally would manage when she saw that it was something I wanted to handle. But on the day of the event, she took control of everything. I was so thankful to have her, and I gladly abandoned ALL control. The event was so successful, and people enjoyed themselves so much that I could not believe the feedback!
Ricki’s vendor partners were absolutely phenomenal! She is particular with who she partners with, and when the team gets to work, you can see why. The bartenders and servers were repeatedly complimented by guests as being stellar, and I would wholeheartedly agree! Even the behind-the-scenes vendors, such as the rental companies were competitively priced and responsive. For instance, after setting up we knew we needed an additional tent and the vendor was able to deliver and set it up with plenty of time to spare. The cake vendor did a fabulous job with what I would have considered being a challenging design, and it was delectable. With it not being a wedding, I thought hiring a photographer would not be necessary, but I heeded Ricki’s advice and hired one. So grateful that I did! I did not get the pictures on my phone like I thought I would, and Joey Carmen was AMAZING and captured everything! The guests could not wait to see the photos afterward and the event was documented with beautiful photos. Trust that her vendors will deliver on Ricki’s assurances and hire them!
The only opportunity I would mention is a double-edged sword. There are a lot of details in the planning. Ricki thinks of them all! This is great because it covers bases I would not have considered, making the event even better. The downside is that there are a lot of details to remember and follow-up on. We had a lot of emails and texts going back and forth, all of which were important and served a purpose. But with all of that communication, things got confusing, like which one of us was in control of what (which could quite honestly be due to me wanting to ACTIVELY participate in the execution). It was hard searching through emails or texts to look for something. I would perhaps suggest that having a working shared Google doc as a means for tracking the details may be a good solution as it allows both sides to access it as a fluid plan. Aside from that, super ecstatic I used a party planner and thankful for Ricki running the day of my event like a boss!
