Edgar Wood was an architect, artist and draftsman who practised from Manchester at the turn of the 20th century and gained a considerable reputation in the United Kingdom.
His work included the First Church of Christ Scientist on Daisy Bank Road in Fallowfield, Manchester. The detail on the door plate you can still see in the door today.
Described as "one of the most original buildings of that time in England, or indeed anywhere" the church was decorated by bronze lettering of parts of the Bible and works by Mary Baker Eddy, an Arabic organ screen, and chairs designed by Wood.

Lovely, relaxed vibe in this small cocktail bar on a side street round the corner from Jamie's Italian, Grand Pacific and the very over-rated Rosso. Friendly staff with a heated outside seating area at the front and one of the most handsome doormen (Polish) I've ever set eyes on! Would go back for him alone...
It was my stag party last saturday, loved every minute of the experience, was well worth it. we nearly came close to finishing it, just another 5 or 10 minutes more, i would recommend it anyone who is a star wars fan.
Really nice apartments, obviously recently finished but to a very high standard. Secure off street parking in a central gated courtyard. Located not too far from Arena, which was perfect for us, but also handy to walk to train station and Arndale shopping centre. The only drawback my wife found was there was no full length mirror, but I wouldn't let that put you off.
A big thank you to Charlotte and the team for making our wedding day at Bramall Hall so very special.
Charlotte, you're an absolute star! Everything was so perfect on the day. Great attention to detail and a very professional approach plus a big smile to go with it. Five starts are truly not enough to express how grateful we both are for making our Big Day a dreams come true wedding. Thank you again! We loved every second of it!
The venue was also amazing. Spectacular setting and a beautiful house. Together with Bramall/Stockport events team and Mosaic catering staff it turned into a dream wedding venue and a day to remember forever.
Had our wedding at Ridgmont on 4th August 2018. What can we say, absolutely brilliant from start to finish. We booked back in 2016, Martin was attentive and sincere from the original booking until the day of the ceremony. Nothing was too much trouble at all, he even fitted a disco ball to the ceiling especially for the bride! All our guests (and us) commented on how delicious the food was. The venue was lovely and clean and all the staff were lovely. We can't recommend this venue enough and are sure you would not be disappointed! Thanks again Martin & team, Rik & Rachel.
We stayed here 1 night for a local wedding. We turned up early to get the kids ready and the staff were extremely accommodating, showing us to a spare room to get changed and letting us check in early. The room was superb and worked really well for 2 adults, a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old. Breakfast was lovely and suitable for both kids too. Highly recommend this place.
The Plaza is a marvellous Art Deco cinema and theatre and I really enjoy watching films and shows there. The interior is wonderful. To watch a film there is a great experience - with much more to it than your average multiplex. Ticket prices are good value. I'd visit more often and would've rated it five stars if the process of actually buying tickets from the Box Office was easier. While the staff are nice and helpful, they seem hamstrung by the computer till system and on a number of occasions I've left empty handed as the transaction couldn't be completed. Apart from that The Plaza is well worth a visit.
The service received from Sheridan Suite is phenomenal and I would highly recommend this venue for any special occasion.they organised my wedding from start go finish and did a fantastic job.we had a hassle free day and all guest was well looked after.highly recommended and great day.thank you Yasmin & Vanessa specially for making it special.
Stayed here last night as we were going to see Imagine Dragons at the arena (who were amazing by the way). The room was nice and cosy with everything you needed for a nights stay. Staff were friendly and helpful and we had a great fry up for breakfast as well. Would stay here again as its convenient for a walk into the city centre with a wide variety of places to eat and drink.

If you are looking for a central and comfy hotel in Manchester, you came in the right place.
DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton is a fantastic place to enjoy your stay, the hotel is part of a chain and part of the well known Hilton Worldwide, which means you can't go wrong with it.
The hotel is in a perfect location just outside the Piccadilly station in Manchester, the design is modern and offers to guest a lot of facilities as lounge, bar, restaurant, gym and much more.
During my stay, I had a standard double room with an amazing view over the street, must say I loved it especially because I could enjoy the sunshine coming from the big window. The room had a very comfy king size double bed, a beautiful desk just next the window where I could enjoy working on my laptop, a big plasma TV on the wall, a great wardrobe storage with iron board, an amazing bathroom with shower big enough for 2 people and last not least an Italian coffee machine which I literally loved it especially on the morning!
DoubleTree Hotel also offer access to a gym 24h on the first floor and has 1 restaurant and 1 bar accessible at the ground floor.
I've managed to try both of those, the bar is a really cool and chill place to enjoy crafts beer and chat with your friends with a nice background music. The restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner for the hotel, looks an authentic American steakhouse restaurant where you can enjoy a rich continental breakfast and amazing steaks or burger for lunch and dinner, not too formal must say.
The service throughout all the stay has been excellent and with few complimentary drinks and cookies given at the check in, I can only give them a 5/5 stars rating for the fabulous service provided.
Can’t recommend Smokies enough. Sophie and the team were fabulous right from the start. Our wedding was made personal to us and nothing was too much trouble. Sophie couldn’t do enough for us and we are so grateful. The room, food and overall experience was amazing, we got so many complaints from our guests. Big thanks also to Stef for making everything look so fabulous. You guys are amazing xx
A great little museum to follow the history of an English Military Division. Lots of artwork, weapons and uniforms from the most recent combat and peacekeeping missions, to the very distant past. As an Americian visiting the area I found it well worth the very small fee and time to enjoy some English history.
This is a really lovely hotel. The rooms were spacious and had everything we could need and more. I used the gym. It was modern and clean and the equipment was in good condition. The food was to a high standard, especially the American themed buffet we had on our final night. The staff were friendly and approachable and always happy to help. I would definitely recommend and this would be my first choice if I needed to stay in the area again.
Amazing venue, architecturally superb. The blending of the wonderfully old and individual with the new generic hotel has been done very well. Prices at the bar are what you would expect, not the cheapest, but decent range (if you get the right bartender who knows what he's doing and doesn't just wander off to leave you standing). Food for a large number of guests was managed well, with good size.portions and food was hot, despite the length of the substantial queue.
Clean, comfy and convenient with a super friendly and helpful staff. Conveniently located right by Manchester Arena. Several take away options. Or if you dine in, there is a comfortable dining area, bar and Terrace. The restaurant/grill menu needs a lot of work. The room service menu could as well. I'm American, so I get it. Burgers and nachos are popular, but more local or regional options would be nice. The breakfast was lovely though. The best part of my stay was the people. The staff and the fellow customers. One young lady helped me multiple times with directions and other "out of Towner" questions. She was always beautifully helpful and assisted me as if I was a friend not a customer. The rest of the staff were just as kind and polite. A definite recommend for the area.
