Amazing place. Wanted to visit for years but always on the way somewhere else (Trafford Park usually!) until I retired. After my visit, I must say that it is an absolute jewel in the crown for the City of Salford. It has been the subject of a sensitive restoration and conservation programme that has really brought the building to life. This particular architectural iteration is mostly from the 16th Century with some later modifications. The timber framed structure is v. Interesting and unusually for a heritage attraction, visitors can go up into the attic spaces. This was a highlight for me but then I love timber framed buildings. The magnificent Radclyffe Bed, which may soon be returning to its owner, who loaned it to Ordsall Hall in 2014 for 5 years, is itself worth making the trip for. It’s a late 16th C work of art and craftsmanship made in the North West for the owners of the Hall at that time. It is also the only surviving original piece of furniture from the hall’s chequered past - it has been everything from an artist’s studio to a clergy training school and even a Victorian working men’s club! The good news is that the staff are really helpful and visitor friendly and the caff does a great cuppa (and cake). More...

Lovely little place. Interesting. Beautifully restored. Nice cafe too but a very limited menu. Good if you just want a coffee and cake. Gardens are also gorgeous and so well presented. I don’t know why it’s taken us so long to go. Great for a couple of hours, and free entry - excellent. Just the parking to pay for. Very enjoyable indeed More...
