What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?

The secret to a great photograph lies within the photographer. In the same way, a great song lies within the songwriter. It’s the emotion it delivers.

A creative photographer has a keen eye for geometry, juxtaposition, colour, and tone.

While it comes naturally, there’s a long road between having that eye and developing it into the craft that produces the art, that is photography.

A great photographer understands people, how they behave, and how they interact with each other and the world around them.

A great photograph has soul.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

A photoshoot is a production involving pre-capture planning, the capture of the pictures on the day, post-capture development where the pictures come to life, and finally the delivery of the products to your doorstep or desktop.

So, right from the get-go we need to manage our expectations, match our values, and bring it all together within a realistic budget.

Please, bear in mind that shoots vary and have different requirements. But this is a typical outline of the process.

• Why are you having these photographs taken? Is it something you want or is it something you need doing?

• At the end of it, what do you expect to have in your hand? Are you looking for digital social media files or printed products like albums, framed portraits etc.?

• Who is your audience? Is it friends and family, something personal, or is it for a wider, communal purpose?

• Do you have any specific ideas in mind? Are there pictures you’ve seen that you would like yours to look like?

• An excellent collaborative tool we could use to develop visual ideas is Pinterest. Do you use Pinterest? It’s simple and intuitive, and I can send you a link to join a private board for our exclusive use.

• Critically, do you know your budget, and what you expect to get for that kind of money? I produce quality, imaginative photographs, and an enjoyable customer experience along the way. My track record proves that.

What do you love most about your job?

Riding on the excitement of planning, shooting, and styling the pictures is the keystone of my enjoyment. I'd be disingenuous if I said that I didn't want to make a good living out of something I enjoy doing but, making people happy with the results of my craft is equally important.

The satisfaction of a job well done is a reward in itself.

What inspired you to start your own business?

My abilities in photography really stepped up from the keen interest level to professional while I was working in the TV and video production industry. Our independent company produced corporate video mainly, at the time when digital photography was becoming accessible.

And one thing led to another, really.

Why should our clients choose you?

Above all else, I strive to provide outstanding photographic services and an enjoyable customer experience at appetising prices.

• Professionalism from inception to delivery.
• Experience.
• Customer satisfaction. My reviews are testament to the customer experience and the fulfilment of clients’ expectations I provide.
• Value. You will always get appreciative value for money from me.
• Protection and safeguarding through compliance with Consumer Protection law.
• Peace of mind against damage to property or person with Public Liability insurance.
• An End User Licence Agreement (EULA).

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

No. Photographs must be taken in person, obviously, but I do provide both high and low resolution digital files as end products.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

There isn't much you can do, really. You can't shoot in masks, which is the main thing.
