‘21 Certificate of Excellence

I am a qualified Athletics Coach, Movement and Running Technique specialist (and a PT). I conduct Biomechanical assessments to spot weaknesses and thus minimise injury. I have had great successes with kids who appear clumsy and uncoordinated - resulting in better movement, more motivation to do sport and better academic results. I can help people who are injured to walk properly, move better, run better and run faster, whatever their age. I have my own studio with two treadmills, where I teach purposeful walking right up to elite speed running. Why hire a running coach? If you want to: run faster for longer and train consistently, avoiding injury, feeling confident that you are following a progressive training regime that includes all the components: warm-up, drills, cool down, nutrition, hydration, rest and recovery, fuelling and pacing, as well as bespoke ideas for stretching, activation, mobilization, strength, and conditioning in addition to session ideas that keep you motivated and help you train smart - it will save you money to hire an experienced running coach. With all the conflicting information out there, I take the guesswork out of training by providing you with a plan so you don’t have to worry on a daily basis what you should be doing. Plans can be as detailed as you like. I take a holistic approach using knowledge and experience gathered over many years coaching in the UK and the USA. Due to my experience I am able to tailor sessions to the needs of the individual, keeping careful records of progression. And it’s not just running, if you are a triathlete, a footballer, a rugby player I can help you move better, run better, run faster, and develop your agility, balance, and coordination. Enjoy your running with a holistic approach, smart goals that provide you with quick wins to enhance motivation and build good habits and resilience. Easily accessible advice and support. Enjoy running without it taking over your whole life. I can also give you guidelines for sensible, simple, nutritious meals and little tweaks to your diet which will help you lose (or gain) weight sensibly. This together with fat-burning cardio vascular sessions and conditioning/weight training (to increase lean body mass) will promote a higher metabolic rate to help you burn calories.

What do you love most about your job?

I love to help people reach their full potential, the recreational runner who can’t quite complete their first 5K without getting injured. The person completing their first marathon. The child who thinks they aren’t good at sport.

What inspired you to start your own business?

As a child I loved sport and trained and competed for many years. Running has been a real gift to me in terms of my physical and mental health and I always wanted to give something back. For many years I volunteered as a children’s coach at a local Athletics Club, eventually becoming the head endurance coach, I also trained to become a Personal trainer.

I worked for England Athletics as the Run Activator for Surrey, setting up, supporting and mentoring recreational running and walking groups all over Surrey. At the same time I worked my way up as far as I could as an England Athletics Coach. I started my own running group in 2011 - Any1canrun, introducing a 0-1 mile course to encourage beginner runners. I took on more coaches, so we could cater for more people and start a walking group for older people, one of our coaches also set a beginners cycling group Any1canride.

I was eager to acquire more knowledge to help my athletes and started training at the prestigious Running School in London to become a Certified Running Technique Specialist, also studying upper and lower body rehabilitation.

Three years ago I opened up my Running studio.

Why should our clients choose you?

There are only 32 qualified Running Technique specialists in the UK, that combined with 15 years’ experience as an Endurance coach means I have a broad range of knowledge and practical experience. I can help you run efficiently, avoid injury and train consistently. A good coach can actually save you time and money in the long-term by reducing visits to the doctor, physio, chiropractor, etc. I am up-to-date with the latest training techniques and can put together excellent, individualised training plans which take the guesswork (and conflicting training advice) out of training. A holistic approach looks at lifestyle, nutrition, hydration, fuelling strength and conditioning to minimise injury and time off training. In the event of niggles or return from injury I have excellent rehabilitation protocols.
When coaching kids and beginners I am good at encouraging and motivating. For more experienced runners my sound technical skills and knowledge enable quick progression.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

My remote coaching offer includes: consultations to discuss training history and goals, a monthly training plan, nutrition and fuelling advice, strength and mobility exercises to manage niggles and prevent injury, email support and as a bonus I can analyse personal running videos and provide useful feedback.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

My studio and all equipment is cleaned after each client. I have an infrared thermal (no contact) temperature gun. I subscribe to the NHS track and trace system and have a QR code that can be scanned on arrival. I have a checklist of questions to ask each client. I wear a mask if I get near the client on the treadmill. Antibacterial hand gel is available before and after the session. My studio will not re-open until 12th April, as per Government guidance.
