What type of counselling services do you offer?

At my practice, I offer lots of different types of counselling services – from individual sessions to group therapy. It all depends on what each client needs and what they’ll benefit from. Because a lot of my clients lead busy lives, I also offer online and telephone counselling if that suits their schedule better. Although I always suggest coming in for a face-to-face session now and then, as these are often very helpful.

What qualifications do you have?

To be a certified counsellor, you need to have a Level 4 qualification in counselling. This can be as a diploma, or at a degree or postgraduate level. I chose to go down the university route by undertaking a BSc Hons in Psychology & Counselling. This meant that I got a degree and was accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am now a registered counsellor with over 10 years of experience and have completed a number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules.

What is the main reason your clients come to you?

Most of my clients have certain goals in mind when it comes to their therapy. Often they want to resolve issues which are causing difficulties in their lives. This may be problems in their personal relationships that they want help working through. It could be with their partner, family, friends, or work colleagues. Or they may want to develop coping mechanisms to help deal with their own mental health. But often these can interlink. For example, if a client is wanting help with their personal relationships, this often has a positive knock-on effect on their own mental health.

I found Fathima fantastic. I have had positive and negative experiences in the past with therapists, so when I decided to take on therapy again I was little apprehensive of how things would go, but she was brilliant. She brings great discipline but empathy to her sessions; really putting manners on my input and the expectations of myself. She has a wonderful temperament and is very professional. Her methods are so structured and sensical, that I looked forward to our sessions and completing the subsequent homework. I can't recommend her enough.

Since starting with Ronan a year ago I have found such value in his coaching. Ronan is a phenomenal listener and has an amazing ability in asking questions, that have helped me in recognising my strengths as well as giving me a clear focus on myself, my goals and how I can achieve them. Ronans genuineness, knowledge and understanding have helped me navigate and reflect on my life choices and helped show me what I am capable of. He has helped me build confidence in my abilities and is always very patient in the process.  I feel I can trust in his insights and this helps me in pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. The positive improvements I have made since starting with Ronan are very evident to me, from nutrition, exercise, mindset, replacing poor habits with good to showing up for myself. Balance is something Ronan encourages between hard work and life enjoyment. What is really evident is that Ronan is a firm believer in his clients, can identify obstacles and put a plan in place to help overcome them. I would recommend Ronan as a life coach to anyone looking to improve or make changes in any area of their life.

I was quite unhappy in my life and I found it difficult to complete a day at work without getting upset at the smallest thing. I have a demanding job and spend a lot of the day dealing with the public. Due to changes in work as a direct result of Covid-19, I started to take complaints personally and I thought they were all directed at me. Due to an outburst at work, my GP advised me to find “someone to talk to”, and I found Ken at A helping Mind. The first time I met Ken, I didn’t know what to expect, I didn’t know what I was going to say, I didn’t know what he was going to say or whether I would sit there and cry for an hour. I didn’t know what was wrong with me or why I was struggling. Ken is very good at his job. He does a lot of the talking at first which is immediately relaxing. He explains how he operates - and because he told me something of his own journey, it was easy to trust him. Ken made sense of the mess in my mind. Every week I got food for thought, and I found myself looking for the triggers when I was faced with confrontation. I am a lot more relaxed now, I am calm enough at work to listen without reacting, I can take time in my head to come up with a solution for a dilemma, instead of thinking everyone is out to get me. I also have the safety net of knowing that I can go back to Ken if I need to - and that in turn is a relief as I no longer feel like I’m falling off a cliff on my own! Thanks Ken! Am
