FAQs

How long does it take to design a website?
Most small to medium business websites take 4-8 weeks. Simple sites can take 2-3 weeks, while complex e-commerce platforms or custom applications in Leicester may take 3-6 months depending on content readiness and feedback speed.

Do I need a web designer or can I just use Wix/Squarespace?
DIY builders are great for simple hobbies, but professional web designers offer custom solutions, better SEO setup, unique branding, and ongoing support. It is an investment that typically pays for itself through better results.

What's the difference between web design and web development?
Design focuses on the visual appearance and user experience (how it looks), while development handles the technical coding and functionality (how it works). Most Leicester professionals handle both.

What should I look for when hiring a web designer?
Check their portfolio for similar projects, read reviews, ensure they understand your industry, and confirm they provide mobile-responsive designs and post-launch support.

How do I know if a web designer is good?
Look for consistent 5-star reviews, a diverse portfolio, clear communication, and professional branding. Trust your instincts—if they are hard to reach before you hire them, it rarely improves afterward.

Will my website work on mobile phones?
Yes. In 2026, mobile-responsive design is a non-negotiable standard. Your Leicester designer will ensure the site adapts for smartphones, tablets, and desktops automatically.

Can a web designer help with SEO?
Most include basic technical SEO (page structure, meta tags, speed). However, ongoing strategy, content optimisation, and link building typically require an SEO specialist.

What if I need changes after the website is built?
Most designers include minor tweaks at launch. For ongoing changes, you can hire your original designer for updates, learn to use the CMS yourself, or pay for a maintenance package.

Who will own my website and content?
You should own your website, domain, hosting, and all content after final payment. Ensure this is clearly stated in your contract before signing.

Do I need to provide content or will the designer write it?
This varies. Some include copywriting, others charge extra (£50–£150 per page). Having your text and images ready before design begins prevents delays.

How much should I budget for website maintenance?
Expect £20–£200 per month for basic updates, security patches, and backups. Comprehensive packages include content updates and performance optimisation.

What happens if I'm not happy with the design?
Reputable designers work in stages with feedback rounds. You'll see wireframes or mockups early on, and most include 2-3 revision rounds to ensure you are thrilled with the result.

What do you love most about your job?

Where do we start? Well, my name is Tom. I'm 26 and I'm the Director of Reason8. I've worked in Marketing for years and, up until December 2020, I was a Computer Science Teacher that was working 50+ hour weeks at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as trying to earn money on the side from my marketing knowledge.

I decided enough was enough. My happiness, my family's happiness, and my sanity was worth more, so I left the profession that I've loved for the last 3 years. I took the plunge and started Reason8 Digital Marketing, which was actually an idea I had back in 2018.

I've never looked back, and I'm so glad I did. In the short time we've been in operation, I've met people from all walks of life, different industries, whacky ideas and had a great time.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I've never felt comfortable in a job, working for someone else. I've never known why, maybe it's an ego thing? Who knows, but I've always been business-minded.

I worry I'm about to sound like someone trying to hype themselves up on The Apprentice - I'll try my best not to.

When I was 8, I got a new pool table for Christmas. Rather than playing on it, I tried to rent it out to people on my street, in my garage. I made the flyers, printed them, cut them out and was ready to go and hand them out. Thankfully, even though I didn't agree at the time, my Mum stopped me.

I then graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Business and Marketing, ending up working for a range of companies, from blue-chips to SMEs. I gained a wealth of experience, but I just felt I could do this for myself, and even better. I couldn't let my true creativity flow - it was always stopped by someone who didn't understand.

I took the plunge and started my own company, employing a Graphic Designer, UX Designer and Web Designer along the way. As I write this, this is the end of our 7th week, and I've loved every minute. I already feel fortunate to be in this position, so I'm excited to see how we can grow and what we can do in 7 months, 7 years - 7 decades?

Why should our clients choose you?

I'm not going to try and sell to you. That's not my style. Our clients choose us for that personal touch, work ethic and personal touch. We put you at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make. Every process we undertake for your project is transparent. We want to build relationships, not a bank account. We want to learn about you, your story, your business, and we'd love nothing more than to help it grow. There's nothing more rewarding.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

We started during the COVID-19 pandemic, so we're certainly no stranger to providing remote solutions. We're always ready to jump on a Zoom call, Google Meeting or just a phone call. We want to speak to you and answer any questions you may have.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Well, we started during COVID-19 (national lockdown), so we've just had to be ourselves and work from home - we've loved it!

What makes a great website?

A great website should not be overcomplicated. It should contain a consistent house style, with high quality imagery, clear call to actions and mobile optimisation.

It should also have a good user experience and be easy to use.

Arguably more important than this is the speed of the website. Statistically, 50% of users close a website if it does not load within 2 seconds.

It should have a clear layout to make it easier for the user to navigate.

We prioritise this and more when we create our websites. Our packages come with many high quality additionals included as standard.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

What is your budget for the project?

What is your timeline for completion of this project?

Do you have any existing ideas or inspiration that we can use?

Do you have any existing branding that we can implement in to the project?

Do you know what you definitely do not want for your project?

Can you provide any imagery or text before we start the project?
