What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?

It's all about the expression, getting that look of interest, no deer in the headlights, too serious, grumpy, uninterested looks. We create expression, whether it be happy, mischievous, debonair, beautiful, romantic your expression can tell a lot about your character, we endeavour to get that from each and every individual that steps in front of our cameras. the subject needs to be relaxed, get into a place where they are not worried about the camera, they are enjoying the experience. It should not be like a visit to the dentist its to be embraced and enjoyed. Whether its 30mins or 5 hours our clients have that experience to remember and when they get "that shot" to go with it, its the icing on the cake.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

We go through a process of asking the clients what they do not like about their face, their body, could be an ear, nose, eyes, mouth, anything, most people have something. We work with them to minimise that effect so they see the image as a whole and not to concentrate of that foible they have. We work on expressions, from the mouth, eyes, posture, eyebrows, every part of the face, head and shoulders to get that right look for that individual. Some people may have a lazy eye, we can work to fix it without the need for photoshop. We create natural shots that show the person we see stood in front of us, the person everyone sees on a daily basis, but we create the best looking you in an image for all to see.

What do you love most about your job?

We love the people, everyone one is different, yes we all have different looks but it's the personalities that we are intrigued with the most. getting that captured on camera is priceless, to have someone very nervous, tense and believing they are not photogenic whatsoever to start with then leaving feeling good about themselves, knowing we have captured a set of fantastic images they are proud of is magical. we can physically see the change in peoples faces as the session progresses and the shots speak for themselves.

What inspired you to start your own business?

We have an extension built for a fourth bedroom which ended up being a dining room that was hardly used. Seeing that space and working nights and weekends, we decided to turn it into a home studio. With a lot of hard work and research we created a fully equipped studio that we could use part time to express our love for photography. then with the downturn of business in my full time career we started taking in more and more clients to the point i decided i would take two years out to give the photography my full attention and it just grew from there. We started shooting everything, family, newborns, maternity, the odd wedding but we soon found out our love was adult portraiture. This coupled together with a close friend in the entertainment business pushing us towards headshots for actors it was a natural progression. Officially we are a brand new studio but since we have opened we have had over a hundred clients walk through our door and we are just getting better and better everyday.

We have always loved photography and art but to take the step from ametuer to professional was a scary but exhilarating choice. to be able to express yourself and create something beautiful whether it be a headshot or, a dancer in the moment, its a dream come true.

Why should our clients choose you?

We have a slightly different modern approach to photography and especially headshots. We do not put a time limit on our clients to work with them to get the shots they want. We will hold your hand every step of the way so your not standing there thinking of how to look, how to stand, wondering whether to smile or what to do with your hands, we will direct you in a way that eases you into it, we won't be afraid to tell you what dose not work, that the outfit does not suit or your makeup is not as crisp as it should be. We are there for you, to make you look the best you can be, we don't want you to look at the images after saying to yourself i wish my hair was not sticking up or why do i have a double chin, we will show you the images as we go through so you can see why we tell you to stick your chin out, lower that eyebrow, put your hair in a particular way, you will see the results so you become confident in not just us but yourself. We can cater for both in studio and outdoor/location shoots, so no matter what the weather you get great shots. We are not stuck in old ways, we are very versatile and cater for a wide range, yes we have our preference but if you want old school B&W you got it, inner city backdrop you got it, but we also can create some clean crisp stand out from the crowd headshots on various coloured backgrounds to suit everyones needs. You tell us what you want and we strive to get you that image, that shot that "wow" factor.
