Drelyse Restaurant

Lisa Bannerman has been making delicious made-from-scratch meals at Drelyse for over 10 years. She came to the US 20 years ago and missed her home food (from Ghana). She would cook often for friends here in Columbus, who all helped her realize that she had a special talent and that there was a need in Columbus for authentic Ghanaian (African) food. She has a degree in Culinary Science which combined with her traditional Ghanaian recipes (passed to her over generations) leads to just the right combination of ingredients for maximum taste. She has taken what she learned from her mom and aunts and over the years has developed her own blend of secret spices and to make her meals come out just right. She enjoys bringing that taste of home to Africans…but importantly, her greatest joy is to introduce people who have never tried African food to Drelyse meals and bring the culture of her land to the people of Columbus and Ohio. At Drelyse, you feel you are hanging out in Lisa’s home, where any moment, you’ll see her pop her head out of the kitchen to say hello, share a sample of something she’s specially preparing etc. Her goal is to continue to present her delicious meals to diners of all races and backgrounds. She has taken on the challenge of adding new items to her menu regularly and adding a spin to some of her African meals so people from all backgrounds will enjoy it. Welcome to Drelyse.

What’s your signature dish?

We really do not have one signature dish. We have several. Grilled Tilapia and Banku, Fufu with goat soup and Waache with beef.

How do you go about creating the perfect menu for your clients?

After years of servicing our customers, we have gotten accustomed to their likes and dislikes and we use that to help guide our menu. We also introduce new items to see customers' reactions to it before officially adding the food item to our menu.

What do you love most about your job?

I think it will have to do with the challenge of introducing African food to those who have never tried it and seeing them get hooked to it the first time they try it. We believe Africans should not be the only ones who enjoy African food. Other people from different backgrounds do like African food too so we present our food in a way to attract people from different backgrounds.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I started out by cooking for friends and family. They loved my food and encouraged me to start a restaurant business.

Why should our clients choose you?

We are working hard to grow our business and the path way to growth is providing excellent service to customers. We are willing to go the extra mile to make our customers and clients happy.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

If you are client looking for a catering service you will first have to contact us to discuss what you need and the budget you have. We will set a date, get things done then you will have to come to the restaurant to pick up.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

We follow the CDC guidelines and request customers to wear a mask and also practice standing 6 feet apart when picking up orders. We also sanitize the tables every day and change the covers as well. We take Covid-19 seriously.
