You aren’t setting yourself attainable goals

If you find yourself drifting aimlessly, now is the time to steer your own ship back to where you want to go. That’s easier said than done of course because to do that you need a solid plan. So ask yourself if there’s more you could do to work towards your ambitions. 

Alternatively, you might be someone who sets goals that are unachievable - at least for now. In which case, a good idea is to start small so you can break down whatever challenges you are facing into bitesize chunks.

Your job is making you miserable

As the saying goes, ‘if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life’. Yet so many people are stuck in an unfulfilling job, leaving them to feel stuck in life. After all, how can you possibly flourish in life, if the thing you spent the most time doing (working) feels like a drag? 

Sure, all jobs have their pitfalls. But if you find yourself feeling dread on a Sunday night at the thought of another week of work, or if you simply don’t feel stimulated or valued in your current role, it’s time for a change. Feeling motivated to reach your goal of landing a new job can help you to feel inspired and determined, helping you to get out of your rut.

You could even take the leap and start your own business. Your future self will seriously thank you for the change of scenery.  

You’re surrounded by the wrong people

Those we interact with whether they are family, friends, coworkers, neighbours or even professional advisors have a huge influence on our own behaviour and general mood. 

Sometimes it’s not always clear to see that our circle isn’t boosting us in the way it should be. Therefore, setting boundaries or even making a clean break could be necessary. 

After all, if people are leaving you feeling drained, then this leaves no energy for yourself. It can be helpful to speak to a therapist to get more clarity on the issue if you need further support, but even recognising this in itself can be monumental for your wellbeing.

You lack self-esteem

Did you know 85% of people have low self-esteem? The reasons we don’t believe in ourselves are far-ranging. It’s important to recognise if a lack of self-esteem is what’s holding you back in life. 

Although it’s not going to be easy to pinpoint why you have low self-esteem let alone deal with it, you’ll feel much better for doing so, especially if you want to be more confident as you move forward in life. 

You aren’t getting out of your comfort zone

How can you expect to get different results from doing the same thing over and over? Without fresh challenges and inspiration, it’s impossible to develop new skills, build connections and ultimately figure out what makes you tick.

Start by shaking up your routine. Perhaps you could take up a new hobby, meet new people or even plan a trip somewhere you’ve never been before? Just make sure you don’t fall into the same patterns, otherwise, you’ll struggle to break out of your rut. 

You keep comparing yourself to others

Everyone has an idea of when they should hit certain milestones in life. But, have you ever stopped to think we are all individuals, following our own paths? If you spend time comparing yourself to others (especially on social media!) now is the time to stop. 

Sure, you might not be where you planned but maybe if you continue to work on your personal growth, it could lead you to a much better outcome instead.
