I love helping people. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1995. I have worked many years in community mental health agencies. I enjoy counseling people which really is teaching people new skills to help themselves. When they get that "ah-ha" moment it is like a giant weight is lifted off of them. When a person can remember a traumatic event and not feel depression or anxiety, they do a happy dance. I am a guide to help people reach that point.
I also have the opportunity to work with counselor interns to help them complete their internship. I think it is my responsibility to help others get to where I am--a Licensed Professional Counsel. So I see myself as a person who personally helps people and one who makes introductions.
I recently retired from agency work. I still want to use my skills so I opened a private practice. I am trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD and Cognitive Therapy for Depression. My heart has always been with the person who suffered trauma in any way. I really enjoy these particular techniques of counseling. My day job doesn't give me enough opportunity work with people who need counseling. Starting my own business is a change I need to make so I can fulfill my purpose in life.
