Andrea was amazing and helped us with our 4 month old Westie puppy Max, who was extremely naughty, hyperactive and disobedient. After previously owning a Westie and him passing away 4 years ago, we finally decided to get another dog and thought another westie would be the perfect choice as we knew the breed so well, especially with two young children it was so important that we knew what to except!!! Unfortunately Max was completely different to what our old Westie was like and we were shocked with the difference in behaviour when we got Max. Max barked uncontrollably and would constantly bite our feet and want our attention. That’s when we got in touch with good dog. After Andrea came to see Max, only after her second visit and following all her advice, Max was like a completely different dog and I can not believe the change in him. I’ve had dogs all my life and thought I would never need a trainer to help me but Max was not what I expected and thanks to Andrea he now follows our instructions and is the loveliest affectionate dog and although we have trained him hard it’s not taken away his lovely character and personality. The first thing you should know about me is that I am obsessed with dogs. If they did a scan of my brain, it would be in the shape of a one. I love all animals, but dogs are my thing. I have three of my own, two westies and a border collie, and hope to get a working cocker soon. I have had a dog my whole life, the longest I have gone without a dog is 3 months. I am a firm believer that a bond between a dog and its person is such a blessing, one I believe should be treasured. I believe in trust and respect. My road to becoming a dog trainer wasn’t really something I thought I could do, I have always wanted to work with animals from a young age but I didn’t like blood so didn’t go down the vet route. Plus the way dogs were trained wasn’t something I liked or believed in, it used to come from a place of fear rather than love and trust. (Thankfully we have come a long way since those days, although sadly there are still places and people that train like that.) It was in 2016 I finally decided to take the leap into the Dog Training world, it was my time as a dog walker that really pushed me down that road. I wanted to understand their behavior and body language more, I wanted to help support my solo walking dogs and understand reactive dogs. I spent a lot of time researching and attending a number of classes to see what fitted my beliefs, which started my journey with Gwen Baileys Puppy School. I started running Puppy School Dartford in 2020 just before the first lockdown happened. I couldn’t run face-to-face classes so I spent my time doing additional courses and expanding my knowledge. Now in 2022 my skill set and my future plans for my business have changed. I have decided to rebrand and start Optimistic Dogs - Dog Training. I will be offering more specialist training classes and workshops, along with 1-2-1 training packages. I will still be running my Puppy School Dartford classes. Dogs, helping people and their dogs experience the best life. So many dogs go into rescue centres I want to do my part in helping clients train their dog so they dont need to give them up. Training is so important as a pervious dog walker dealing with rescue dogs, or dogs that haven’t been exposed to the world is heartbreaking. I really want to do my bit to help. Thats just one of the reasons I joined Puppy School.
