Chris's eye for colours, shapes, fabrics and furnishings started at a young age, when he provided design advice to our parents who were looking to renovate their living room. Yes, I am Chris's brother. But don't let that influence you! I've been incredibly impressed by how Chris can decorate a bare room, using only his vision, his aesthetics and his knowledge of what would look great, and where it should go. I've been with him as he visits our relatives and within an hour, is moving furnishings around and creating an entirely new, better looking and better functioning space. Oh yes, our relatives were willing participants and are always overjoyed with the results. I know my brother very well and we speak often about each other's work. He is always extremely proud of the work he does. If he wasn't proud of it, he wouldn't do it and wouldn't tell me about it. I've seen his homes and condos and have loved how they made me feel when I visited. How could he make lime green and charcoal grey work? I never would have thought of that. Chris is always suggesting changes to my home, too, maximizing the usefulness and beauty of every room. I had a Kits suite, and Chris turned an ordinary one bedroom into a place I was proud to call home, refinishing my bathroom in a bright faux finish, and building a dining room table into a living room island bookcase. He never fails to surprise me with his eye, his creativity and his talents. I've recommended Chris to many friends and guess what? They're still my friends :) Hire him. You'll be glad you did.

Mr. Pallett was instrumental in arranging everything in my house to prepare it for sale. He was meticulous. He hung my art and reorganized my furniture creating a space that was no longer looking like a bomb went off but looked polished and sensible. He chose the interior paint colours and flooring options for the three floor 3600+ sq ft home. The staging which Chris did was the main factor in the house selling quickly and over asking price. I have already arranged for him to be involved in consulting with the planning of my next home.

A kitchen is often regarded as the hub of a home and as such, is a hive of activity. From cooking, socialising, eating and cleaning - there’s a lot that takes place in a kitchen! So what you should aim for is a kitchen that truly works for your needs and gives you plenty of space to be able to move around in.

If the layout is awkward or lacks space it’s simply not going to work for your family. So, if you are currently having any such issues then this is what you need to tell your kitchen designer. Invite them into the space so they can suggest an alternate solution. You can then begin to think about the aesthetics which will work in tandem with the initial design and planning.

Many different elements make up kitchen design, including the layout of units as well as the placement of your appliances. These categories reflect the style you wish to opt for, so narrowing these down will help determine your kitchen design.

  • Luxury Kitchens - Luxury kitchens have bespoke features and premium quality materials. For example, granite worktops, underfloor heating, extensions, or a sliding door leading straight to the garden. Luxury kitchens are exquisite, which makes them far more expensive than regular kitchen design. However, when designed well, they will increase the value of your property.

  • Modern Kitchens - Trends are ever-changing, but the current definition of a modern kitchen is something which uses clean colours and is flooded with natural light. Sleek, glossy units are also very popular, as are ‘hidden’ features that keep things minimalistic.

  • Rustic Kitchens - Want a kitchen that makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the countryside? Rustic designs use earthy materials such as wood and stone, to create a homely feel. They are ideal for those who love to cook, especially with traditional appliances such as an Aga oven.

  • Simplistic Kitchens - Not all kitchen designs have to be big and fancy. It’s perfectly possible to keep things simple, especially if you’re working with a much smaller space. Simplistic kitchen design is all about going back to basics. It will focus on giving you space to prepare your food and use the sink, rather than adding in too many units or pieces of furniture.

Yes! Bark makes it simple to find and hire a Kitchen Designer from the comfort of your home. Just tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll connect you with the best Kitchen Designers for the job. Most Kitchen Designers will be able to offer their services online or remotely, all you’ll need is a phone or a strong internet connection.

Usually, kitchen design and planning comes included in the cost of the entire kitchen. It will be provided by the installer or company you buy your units from.

As with any designer you are looking to hire, a flair for creativity, innovation and problem solving are highly desirable qualities. Ideally, the individual or company will be highly experienced in the inner-workings of a kitchen. They will fully understand what pitfalls to avoid, and be able to advise on what layout would maximise the space and natural light in your home.
