By being down to earth, chatty, friendly and even showing a sense of humour, even the most difficult of tasks can be tackled easily and without any embarrassment on the part of the person you're helping. Just like a nurse or doctor, adhering to a skillful and well-trained approach can work wonders.
I love working in a job where I am appreciated so much. My clients notice what I’ve done for them and it makes them happy too.
I love making a difference in other people’s lives. I know what I do helps them to stay living independently in their own homes and my clients love to see me walking in the door.
Caring for other people makes me feel valued.
I have wonderful relationships with my clients. While I am doing their ironing or washing the floor, we’re laughing and chatting and having banter. They enjoy telling me their stories, sometimes from years ago and I get pleasure from listening to them.
I get great job satisfaction from my job and I love hearing good feedback from my reviewer.
I enjoy the challenges, I like the responsibility of looking out for my clients and taking note if anything seems amiss.
I enjoy the social interaction with clients and then meeting up with other carers at the Christmas party and other events.
We get great support from the staff in our local office which makes a huge difference.
I look forward to seeing my clients’ reactions when I walk in the door as they look forward to seeing me each day.
My role is now a mixture of caring, client reviews and doing spot checks and I enjoy the variety.
I treat my clients as though they are my own parents. Old age is going to come to us all so I care for people as I would like to be treated myself.
I love ensuring that my clients look smart. One gentleman’s family calls me his fashion designer as I co-ordinate his shoes, socks, shirts, cardigans, and trousers. I know it makes him feel good.
Sometimes I work with other carers (there’s two of us caring for a client) and it’s a lovely way to get to know other carers too.
I love seeing my clients thrive by staying in their own homes.
The fact that we can train while working and the cost is subsidised is a huge advantage to me.
I love caring and am in college training to be a social worker. I’m gaining valuable experience by working for Comfort Keepers and it suits perfectly that I can work at weekends and during the evenings.
We had to relocate to another county a hundred miles away, I was able to register with the Comfort Keepers office in that county and had new clients within two weeks. It was wonderful knowing that I didn’t have to change jobs and also had job security.
I also love that every day is different and the work can be so varied.
I work five days a week but have a day off midweek which I find really handy.
I always wanted to be a nurse and feel that I am eventually working in my dream job.
Objective: To reduce risk to the lowest reasonably practicable level
by taking preventative measures, in order of priority.
Employers have a duty to reduce workplace risk to the lowest
reasonably practicable level by taking preventative measures.
Employers must work with any other employers or contractors
sharing the workplace so that everybody's health and safety is
protected. In the context of COVID-19 this means protecting the
health and safety of your workers and customers by working through
these steps in order:
▪ Ensuring both workers and customers who feel unwell stay at
home and do not attend the premise. From 28 September, by law
businesses may not require a self-isolating employee to come into
work.
▪ In every workplace, increasing the frequency of handwashing and
surface cleaning.
▪ Businesses and workplaces should make every reasonable effort
to ensure their employees can work safely. Anyone who can work
from home should do so. Anyone else who cannot work from
home should go to their place of work, if COVID-19 Secure
guidelines are followed closely. When in the workplaces, everyone
should make every reasonable effort to comply with the social
distancing guidelines set out by the government (2m, or 1m with
risk mitigation where 2m is not viable is acceptable). Where the
social distancing guidelines cannot be followed in full, in relation to
a particular activity, businesses should consider whether that
activity can be redesigned to maintain a 2m distance or 1m with
risk mitigations where 2m is not viable.
▪ Further mitigating actions include:
▪ Further increasing the frequency of hand washing and surface
cleaning.
▪ Keeping the activity time involved as short as possible.
▪ Using screens or barriers to separate people from each other.
▪ Using back-to-back or side-to-side working (rather than face-toface) whenever possible.
▪ Reducing the number of people each person has contact with
by using ‘fixed teams or partnering’ (so each person works with
only a few others).
▪ Where the social distancing guidelines cannot be followed in full,
even through redesigning a particular activity, businesses should
consider whether that activity needs to continue for the business to
operate, and if so, take all the mitigating actions possible to reduce
the risk of transmission between their staff.
▪ You should ensure that steps are taken to avoid people needing to
unduly raise their voices to each other. This includes, but is not
limited to, refraining from playing music or broadcasts that may
encourage shouting, including if played at a volume that makes
normal conversation difficult. This is because of the potential for
increased risk of transmission, particularly from aerosol
transmission. We will develop further guidance, based on scientific
evidence, to enable these activities as soon as possible.
▪ Clinically extremely vulnerable individuals are strongly advised to
work from home during the period of national restrictions. If they
cannot work from home, they should not attend work for this
period
