Firstly the venue is lovely and so we're the staff, cheerful friendly but profesional. The blot on our visit was the starter. .chicken wings. They were very nice, but served on a ridiculously small plate. You couldn't use a knife or fork as it was too small, and picking them up your hands got in such a mess it was on everything..no finger bowl, no napkin apart from the beautiful white linen ones!!!!. Never again would I choose those when i'm dressed for dining out, and neither should anyone else. All other food was great....sorry but without our own wet wipes we couldn't have carried on eating and drinking. Vegetarian options: Adequate as it was quite a concise set lunch menu. Great afternoon tea with a large selection of sandwiches, scones, and cakes. The food was so copious that we had no chance of eating it all. They were well-prepared and provided boxes for us to take the leftovers home. The location is very historic with Tudor beams, although take care is you're tall! We had a big ask of this restaurant, we had a cancellation at another venue and The Siege House accommodated us which was amazing as we was a table of 15(+2Babies) we all had a wonderful meal and great service. First time visiting and wasn't disappointed. Big group of 14 people for a family birthday was well looked after by the friendly head of house and her team. No incorrect or missing orders. Steak's were all cooked too perfection. Service overall was excellent. Was seated on a big table next to an open fire which was lovely. Will definitely return. What’s your signature dish?
We cook a fantastic slow braised beef cheek served with a rich bourguignon sauce
How do you go about creating the perfect menu for your clients?
We like to sit down with our clients and discuss the menu first and foremost to see their likes and dislikes. Seasonality is very important as we like to use the freshest ingredients and if they are also local then this is great. Budgets are obviously very important to the clients so whatever we offer we always try to be under budget if possible.
What do you love most about your job?
At The Old Siege House we love to make our customers visits very special and we love to make them feel at home and appreciated. When a customer has a great time, enjoys the foo, drink and service this makes us very happy.
What inspired you to start your own business?
It has been a long standing ambition of ours to open our own restaurant and what better place than our home town and in such an iconic building.
Why should our clients choose you?
We feel that we offer that personal service that many companies now fail to give. We listen to the client and we create a menu together and the final result is much more personal and we feel the client appreciates this approach as they are involved as much or little as they want to be.
weddings
We can provide Canapes to serve at the reception on arrival.
Full three course sit down meal with bar and wines served through the meal.
Buffet options such as Hog roast, Large pan Paellas and traditional fork buffets
We can supply afternoon teas and an informal help yourself buffet meal.
Wakes/Funerals
We can offer a lovely venue in Colchester where we are able to supply a selection of buffets, a sit down meal and a bar for drinks.
Private areas are available for privacy and we have a lovely secret garden area for smaller gatherings
Parties/Celebrations
We can cater for your party or celebration either onsite at our lovely historical restaurant where we can provide up to 160 cover over 2 floors to sit down or buffets.
We have private areas if your party is small and also outdoor garden area when the weather is nice.
You can hire the whole venue for a large party and we have a resident DJ who can provide the music with a late bar if required.
We have held casino nights with four tables on the first floor and diners on the ground floor.
Corporate
Want to impress some clients or treat the workers then we are able to provide a food and drink package to suit your needs and can work with you to create your own bespoke event.
We can accommodate up to 200 people over 2 floors and have room for up to 50 outside also.
Christmas parties
We have a set price meal with a disco available on Friday's and Saturday's through December. We generally accommodate large parties but we can accommodate parties of most sizes up to 200.
