How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Most garages are suitable for conversion, but if detached or away from the main building it’s always worth seeking advice from the local al authority.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
The installation of either a foundation or psc lintel to build up the dwarf wall and window above normally, introduce any first fix electrics or plumbing, level and apply damp membrane to the floor and provide insulation to the walls and the floor. Apply a vapour control layer to the external Walls and insulation to the ceiling and plasterboard throughout with a skim finish. Allow to provide either a concrete floor over bud normally a wooden floor on top of the floor insulation. Consult with building control at each stage.
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
Normally under permitted development, this all depends on the headroom as once the floor is in place the height gets reduced. Should they wish to remove the roof and increase the height of the ridge then planning permission should be sought.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
To insert supporting steelwork to accept the new independent floor from the ceiling below. Normally supporting dwarf walls are built on top of these steels to support the roof and new ridge beam. Then all the insulation can be applied maintaining a 50mm airgap between the rafters in the ceiling.
