Coed-Y-Mwstwr Hotel

My wife and I booked into the hotel on Saturday 14 December for one night, when we arrived we were told that there was no booking under our name although my wife had made the booking and paid in June, after some time standing in reception and in front of other guests who were also waiting to book in we were eventually told that they had given our room to someone else who had the same surname as us. |Although after some time the issue was resolved we found the mix up embarrassing and distressful, That being said the rest of our experience was positive as the Las Vegas join a party we had booked was well organised, the serving staff were excellent, our meal was lovely and there was plenty of it, the only thing that let it down was the draft when the doors were opened, we had to request on several occasions for the doors be closed, my wife also mentioned that the lady’s toilets were disgusting. |Breakfast on Sunday morning was very good and again the serving staff were very attentive and friendly. We stayed here for a short break advertised in the Telegraph. It is a friendly welcoming hotel with a lovely big fire in the reception area. The food was very good, the room large and comfortable (room 5), spacious grounds and a remote location. The Royal Mint Experience, just 30 minutes drive, was excellent and well worth a visit. This was the perfect hotel, fantastic staff who were all lovely and welcoming. The hotel was immaculate and the food was delicious. Can’t recommend highly enough. Coed-Y-Mwstwr Hotel Coychurch, Bridgend is an elegant Victorian Mansion that has lots of rooms and areas to sit. You step inside the front door then into a reception area where couches are lovely to sit on where you are facing a large fire place where a wood fire is burning to welcome you. The Hotel is set in extensive woodlands, landscape gardens and beautiful scenery with breath taking views looking over to the Glamorgan coast. I stayed in one of the Coach House Rooms which is beautifully appointed with everything one would need to have a great weekend. My husband received as a birthday gift an afternoon tea for two plus an afternoon tea for our beautiful Staffie Stella. From the very start the three of us were made very welcome. Stayed in Coed-Y-Mwstwr for a wedding. We decided to take our dog when we found out it was dog friendly. Lovely room in the coach house with everything you need (bowls, towel, treats provided for our dog). Surroundings were perfect for dog walks. Table set up ready for us the next morning for breakfast with out dog and he even got sausages. Lovely location, lovely bar, open fire. perfect getaway for anyone looking for pet friendly. This hotel is a little gem. Beautifully situated near Bridgend/Cardiff, yet perched on a hill overlooking glorious country, this solidly built Victorian house is welcoming and extremely cosy. The lounge/bar area is tastefully furnished and a blazing log fire greets guests as they arrive.|Bedrooms are very comfortable with very good beds, (although I wasn’t thrilled with synthetic pillows and duvets, but this is a matter of personal taste) It was very nice to find a wide range of teas on the complementary tray with complementary bottled water. Bathroom towels were fluffy and everything was spotlessly clean.|Food was very good indeed-our sole at dinner was beautifully cooked and very well presented. Sandwiches were first-rate. We were especially impressed at breakfast by a very large choice of fresh fruit and we loved the cooked options which offered excellent variety ,(my breakfast omelette was one of the best I’ve ever eaten.) |In the main, staff were lovely-very friendly, but efficient as well. Our room was in The Coach House, separate from the hotel, this was no problem and was probably quieter as there were weddings on both days that we were there. The room could possibly do with a little updating, the lighting was very poor to use a mirror in the bathroom or bedroom. Pet hate - hotel hairdryers! - Please provide a decent one - this one was so hot, even on the coldest setting, you could not touch your hair! Went for an afternoon tea and wow just wow||Arrived 4 15 for a 4 30 feed, we were met at reception and within 2 minutes shoved to our table by a very pleasant young ,lady||We had pre ordered the gentleman's afternoon tea, you get fish n chips, burger, kebab and a warm toasted sandwich everything was amazing and as if your nor full enough (you will be) you get a very dense chocolate brownie and a cheesecake ||At £22-50 its an absolute bargain, so much so we've already booked a room for next year and we will hav ethe afternoon tea again, perhaps the regular one, the people an the next table had it and there was that much they took it home in 3 boxes the hotel provided

Most kind and considerate staff we have ever met. Nothing was too much trouble. Provided us with food that allowed for all the allergies in our family, especially a dangerously high one. Very pleasant professionally run hotel - staff are all very welcoming with excellent service - we stayed in a double room (room 28) which is in need of a little TLC but that did not detract from our stay - nice quiet room and we were not disturbed even though there were wedding parties on both nights of our stay.
