How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
The first thing to consider is the height from the joist to the bottom of the ridge board, a functional loft conversion requires 2m clear headroom.
If one did not have the required height and is refurbishing the rooms below, there is always the option to lower the ceilings.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Architects need to do all the drawings, then the local council needs to be contacted to check if planning permission is required, and building control needs to be notified as well.
Before the builders start it good to let your neighbours know of the building works and how long it will take.
When builders start scaffolding goes up, steel work goes in, joists are installed, dormer constructed, the gets done, then the interior including steps etc..
This is just a general description to give one a basic idea.
