My flat roof was showing signs of unevenness and constantly collecting water 1 inch deep after rainfall, which made me realize the need for repairs before any serious leaks occurred. I was looking for a contractor who could provide a finished roof with a slight slope to ensure proper drainage towards one side gutter, all within an affordable price range. I reached out to five professionals recommended by Bark, and I asked them several important questions to ensure they met my requirements. These questions included inquiries about installing a protection board over the existing flat roof or completely removing all existing layers, their willingness to inspect and replace any damaged roof boards, the brand and type of materials they would use, as well as weight, thickness, and quality information. It was also crucial for me to confirm their insurance coverage and inquire about their method of installing insulation and protection boards by glue or nails. I also wanted to know if they recommended a one-ply or two-ply flat roofing system and if they install a rubber base and cap sheet using the torch-down. I finally learned a lot. The most commonly used material for flat roof crickets is tapered polyisocyanurate (ISO) insulation panels. This is a type of rigid foam insulation that can provide thermal resistance, and also create a slope on the roof surface, allowing water to run off more easily - I choose this way.
