Finding a web designer in Victoria is easy with Bark

Professional web design across Victoria is the essential first step in creating a digital presence that effectively represents your brand. Whether your business is located in Melbourne or you are serving clients throughout Geelong, a skilled digital agency combines visual creativity with technical expertise to build high-converting sites.

Why hire a professional web designer?

  • First impressions matter: 94% of first impressions are design-related. Build instant credibility across Victoria.

  • Mobile-first approach: Over 50% of web traffic in Australia is mobile; professional designers ensure your site works beautifully on every screen.

  • SEO-ready structure: Good design includes proper technical setup to help your site rank higher in Google results.

  • Save time and frustration: DIY builders seem easy until they're not. Let an expert in Victoria handle the complexity.

Types of web design services available:

  • Custom design: Unique sites built from scratch.

  • E-commerce: Online shops with secure payment processing, product catalogues, and inventory management.

  • Website redesigns: Modernise outdated sites with fresh designs and improved functionality.

  • WordPress & Shopify: Custom themes and functionality for the world's most popular platforms.

Web design costs in 2026 vary based on complexity, functionality, and the designer's experience. Based on the latest Bark data, web design rates across Victoria are around $800, which is lower than the national average of $1,000. Here is what you can realistically expect to pay for different design types:

  • Landing page: $400 to $2,400 (Single page, conversion-focused design)

  • Small business website: $960 to $4,800 (5 to 10 pages, basic SEO, mobile responsive)

  • Custom business website: $4,000 to $12,000 (Fully custom design, 10 to 20 pages, copywriting)

  • E-commerce website: $3,200 to $28,000+ (Product catalogue, payment integration, inventory)

Note: All prices listed above are estimates in Australian Dollars (AUD) based on regional averages. To get a better idea of the exact cost for your specific project, you should request personalised quotes from local experts.

Budget-friendly options

If you're working with a limited budget in Victoria, consider starting with a simple 5-page site and expanding later, using a customised template rather than a custom build, or providing your own content and imagery to reduce the designer's workload.

  • Hosting: $20 to $120 per month depending on your needs

  • SSL certificate: Often free, sometimes $100 to $350 per year

FAQs

How long does it take to design a website?
Most small to medium business websites take 4 to 8 weeks. Simple sites can take 2 to 3 weeks, while complex e-commerce platforms or custom applications in Victoria may take 3 to 6 months depending on content readiness and feedback speed.

Do I need a web designer or can I just use Wix/Squarespace?
DIY builders are great for simple hobbies, but professional web designers offer custom solutions, better SEO setup, unique branding, and ongoing support. It is an investment that typically pays for itself through better results.

What's the difference between web design and web development?
Design focuses on the visual appearance and user experience (how it looks), while development handles the technical coding and functionality (how it works). Most Victoria professionals handle both.

What should I look for when hiring a web designer?
Check their portfolio for similar projects, read reviews, ensure they understand the Australian market, and confirm they provide mobile-responsive designs and post-launch support.

How do I know if a web designer is good?
Look for consistent 5-star reviews, a diverse portfolio, clear communication, and professional branding. Trust your instincts. If they are hard to reach before you hire them, it rarely improves afterward.

Will my website work on mobile devices?
Yes. In 2026, mobile-responsive design is a non-negotiable standard. Your Victoria designer will ensure the site adapts for smartphones, tablets, and desktops automatically.

Can a web designer help with SEO?
Most include basic technical SEO (page structure, meta tags, speed). However, ongoing strategy, content optimisation, and link building typically require an SEO specialist.

What if I need changes after the website is built?
Most designers include minor tweaks at launch. For ongoing changes, you can hire your original designer for updates, learn to use the CMS yourself, or pay for a maintenance package.

Who will own my website and content?
You should own your website, domain, hosting, and all content after final payment. Ensure this is clearly stated in your contract before signing.

Do I need to provide content or will the designer write it?
This varies. Some include copywriting, others charge extra ($120 to $300 per page). Having your text and images ready before design begins prevents delays.

How much should I budget for website maintenance?
Expect $50 to $400 per month for basic updates, security patches, and backups. Comprehensive packages include content updates and performance optimisation.

What happens if I'm not happy with the design?
Reputable designers work in stages with feedback rounds. You'll see wireframes or mockups early on, and most include 2 to 3 revision rounds to ensure you are thrilled with the result.

Better Byte

Better Byte is a client-focused agency with a focus on web, apps and electronics development. We use our personal experience to define our company and provide creative designs and solutions. When you work with us, you’ll be working with some of the most unique people you will ever meet with at least 5 years of industry experience in start-up environments. We always love to learn and experience new things and push ourselves to achieve what we set out to. Our approach to each project is always the same, we listen, we ask questions and then we sit down and plan before doing anything else. We are a company that provides solutions crossing multidisciplinary fields. We work with consultants who have experience in many different areas from software development to electronics prototyping and automation. What separates us from other businesses? We try to look for possible solutions in unorthodox places. Some problems may be easily solved with common methods, but when there are curveballs thrown our way (i.e. problems that at face value are unique and difficult to solve using conventional means) we dig deep and look at multiple avenues because sometimes problems have to be solved from a solution that is inspired by different industries or perspectives. Sometimes we combine multiple solutions from different backgrounds to ensure that the end result is optimal. Some businesses get stuck using one prescribed solution because it has been used for a long time (even though that said solution is not optimal). We also, as much as possible, treat each client and project differently, as we believe that each project is unique and the solution to each project is unique. Why try to fit a square peg in a round hole?

What makes a great website?

Each and every website is different, but they all have one purpose in mind. That purpose is to attract customers and ensure that there is a higher chance of the customer buying the product or service of the company. Different demographics have different preferences and comparing one website to another would be similar to comparing apples to oranges (some people prefer apples and some oranges). To make a great website you need to take into consideration your customers and their preferences. You need your website to be responsive, fast and easy to use and pleasing to the eye.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

Each customer has different needs and requirements for their projects and the questions asked will depend on that. Here are some examples of the type of questions that we might ask.
Describe your business in a few sentences?
What are your goals for this project?
What specific features do you want on the site?
What made you interested in developing this website?
What is your target audience (demographics)? (i.e age range, gender etc.)
Did you want a fully custom designed and branded website? Or did you want an off the shelf theme?

What do you love most about your job?

We love how this job gives me the flexibility to pursue what avenues that we want to pursue. Part of the satisfaction of the job comes from the lifestyle choices that our business is built around (lifestyle business) because the flexibility allows us to meet our fullest potential.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Seeing a market need, we need to take advantage of, especially in times like these where there are many opportunities in starting your own business. A need to do something more, that is bigger than oneself and to achieve our fullest potential. We feel that we would be siloed and pigeonholed if working for someone. Working for someone is valuable to learn skills, but sometimes (depending on the person) it is very limiting and this business allows us to have a creative outlet. Some people prefer sticking to standards and existing procedures. Some people like to create and build. We are the latter. We like to create and build.

Why should our clients choose you?

Not every client should choose us because it depends on their needs. But when meeting clients, we will determine if they need us by asking questions. We treat each customer differently and tailor our services to each customer because they are unique and they have different needs. But in the end, we spend time to ensure that those needs are met.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

We have the ability and skills to remotely work on client’s projects. If we set up the systems ourselves then we have the tools to do so.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

We ensure that most of our interactions are made online through video conferencing, messaging apps etc. Sometimes we need to meet in person as some tasks are difficult to do remotely. In that case, we organize a meeting at a place and ensure that we are following social distancing guidelines in the jurisdiction of the location that we are currently in.
