What do you love most about your job?

This may sound strange, but I love the little imperfections that lead to major inspiration. In all endeavors, I aspire to excellence, but years of living and working with diverse people have given me the understanding that perfection is unattainable--and that's okay! I have learned that there is beauty and purpose in imperfection. To err is human and so is learning something new from every mistake. It is because of those small issues or crossed wires (that inevitably happen) that projects become more than what we ever expected. With every project I become better at what I do. More adept at taking advantage of every opportunity to go beyond the standard to another level. I revel in the humanity that each project explores, highlights, educates and motivates.

What inspired you to start your own business?

2016 marked the 10th anniversary of KEMPS Consulting's founding. Now in our thirteenth year, I can celebrate the difficulties of those first years of struggle. I started freelancing to support myself while in graduate school at Emerson College, earning a Masters in Publishing and Writing. Then it happened—do you remember it? The bubble burst. For the next five years, the Great Recession held most of us financially and professionally hostage. The job market, while always competitive, was fierce and obviously rigged against the average worker. It was in this employment environment that I cut my editorial teeth and my business. Organizations were looking for quality freelancers as they lost the ability to maintain full-time employees. Workers were looking for assistance polishing their professional presentations to find better (or any) employment. Other professionals with entrepreneurial spirits were seeking assistance starting their own small businesses. I dedicated myself to helping my clients overcome the understandable and the absurd obstacles between them and employment or advancement. Over the last decade, I have assisted professionals in every stage of their careers, from entry-level to executive, approaching each client as a human being and each project as an opportunity to bridge gaps. I help to make the world a better place, one client at a time—not by helping people obtain jobs or finish projects, but by guiding individuals in defining their dreams and setting achievable goals to bring those dreams to fruition.
